    My first impression was, is this it? I hope it is much better for Sunday brunch. The room with the pretty white covered chairs shown in the picture was not open when we went. We had our choice of any of the tables around the bar—although there were some outdoor tables too overlooking the former golf course. Food was good, but not great. Selection was minimal. My husband had salmon and I had sea bass, and the same sauce came on both our dishes accompanied by potatoes and asparagus. Very basic. Well executed, but expensive for basic. It was quiet because, other than the bartender and our server, there was only one other patron there on a Friday evening.

    We went there for Mother's Day. The buffet was not extensive but the food was well made and the service was very good. Also, they gave us tins of Doubletree chocolate chip cookies at the end, which is much nicer than roses.

    I was looking for a restaurant in our neighborhood we hadn't been to & that offered a good value to celebrate a birthday. It happened to be San Diego Restaurant Week & a lot of establishments were participating by offering a 3-course meal. Their price was $30/pp. Many of the items offered are not on their regular menu. Some of our diners ordered off the SDRW menu & others ordered off the regular menu. The Ceviche had citrus cured Rockfish & shrimp w/avo & corn chips & was very pleasing. The Orange & Avocado salad was made with butter lettuce with red onion, Cotija cheese & a cilantro lime dressing and was very refreshing. The Grilled Achiote Mahi Mahi came with a lime cilantro reduction, sweet corn cakes & pickled carrots...yummy!. I enjoyed the Grilled Mojito Pork Chop was topped with a corn salsa & complemented w/mashed sweet potatoes...I ate the whole thing. Mahi Mahi Tacos were ordered off the regular menu & the order of four were stuffed with avocado, home made salsa, cabbage & served with a cilantro rice for $18. Our lone vegetarian had the Pasta Primavera loaded with farm fresh vegetables & basil marinara at $16. The Petite Filet Mignon at 6oz. was oh so tasty having been grilled with chimichurri for $32. One of our diners had to have the 8oz. angus Asado Burger with an aioli, lettuce, tomato, pico, avocado, pepper jack cheese annnd bacon. After all that there was only room for two desserts. I loved the Caramel filled Churro with chocolate pudding sauce. Also ordered was the Coconut & Rum Flan (type of egg custard). All-in-all...everyone went home quite pleased. I enjoyed one of San Diego's Craft brews by consuming a couple of 16oz. Duets, single IPA by Alpine Brewery that boasts pine, citrus, & cedar notes from Simcoe & Amarillo hops, at $8 a pop. My better half had the Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that has sweet ripe fruit characters with a delightful mix of citrus, floral, pear and tropical fruit and a crisp nettle highlight. I'll be back.

    Food was excellent. We had the mixed grill and ribeye and both were very tasty. Thanks to the chef! However- Don’t select the restaurant if you’re looking for a romantic dinner or special ambience. If you stay at the hotel and want a quiet good meal, perfect.

    Crab cakes were local crab, but they tasted like canned crab—very mushy, no seasoning, the coating looked like batter that wasn’t completely cooked, it wasn’t crisp & it was a pale color, crab cake as a whole was tasteless and kind of cold and just a soft patty of mystery squishy fish. My kids had fries with their burgers and the fries I tasted were nice and crisp & tasty. The day before, I had ordered the Caesar salad, which had a creamy dressing—it didn’t have a whole lot of the Caesar dressing taste, mostly the taste of whatever the white ingredient was (mayo?). It was a neutral dressing, I usually like a stronger taste. We also had breakfast there. I liked the variety of the buffet. The coffee was good. The service by Patricia was great. Howard was our server the day before & he was really good too. French toast and berries were my favorite part of breakfast, but the scrambled eggs were good too, as well as the lox & the muffins. Loved the bacon.

    We were pleasantly surprised by our Thanksgiving dinner here. We decided last minute to book a reservation on Thanksgiving, as we were traveling for a soccer tournament and didn’t want the kids to miss out on the traditional dishes of the season. We found Asado Grill at the last minute and despite reading mixed reviews decided to give them a try as our options were extremely limited. What a great place! The manager was super accommodating, allowing us to add 3 extra people, as another family on our daughter’s team didn’t have a dinner option and asked to join us. Since we got the last reservation, it was literally at closing (their 1 hr. break between lunch and dinner), but Frank made every effort to keep the buffet open, even replenishing dishes so we didn’t feel forgotten or left out. And the food was awesome! Great examples of Thanksgiving dishes, a carving station, and a rack of desserts. The other family was as impressed as we were. Definitely recommend them to anyone look for quality fare, a decent price for a hotel restaurant, but best of all attentive service.

    Odd place. Very bright lighting and very sparse decor...marble tables, one or two paintings, tile floor. no flowers, candles, or tablecloths. Waited 15 minutes for someone to greet us and bring us water after being seated, then another ten minutes to order...restaurant week and we had reservations and ordered off the prix fixe menu but salad and soup were served before drinks! Had to remind about drink, waiter offered to comp my drink. Bloody Mary supposed to have "wasabi coated olives" but had no garnish at all, not even celery. Table next to us wasn't cleared until 20 minutes after couple left. Watermelon soup tasted like watermelon juice, the salad was also bland. Steak and short ribs very good. After she ordered it, waiter returned and told my daughter they were out of bread pudding although we watched them serve it to all the other diners....brought our desserts before they cleared our dinner. Desserts were good (churros, creme brulee) As we left, the bartender ran after us and handed us a brownie in a to go box, so "it wouldn't go to waste"...kind but strange gesture.

    A simply wonderful restaurant in a beautiful hotel. The menu selections were seasonal and excellent, not to mention the impressive presentation by the bartender... This hotel is not far from downtown San Diego and close to many local attractions. The price was reasonable too for my dinner with husband. Truly a relaxing fabulous night. Will recommend it and come back!
