Immerse yourself in the time-honored techniques and evocative flavors of wood-fired Mexican cuisine at Ámbar Restaurante in downtown El Paso. The menu is led by Executive Chef Lawrence Acosta, who brings his mastery of regional Mexican cuisine to the city.

Patrons are greeted by a spectacular 40-foot-tall amber glass and polished stainless steel wall that showcases the bar area and one of the largest tequila collections in Texas.

Chef Acosta makes a conscious effort to support the boutique, family-run farms and makers in Mexico, and the menu features centuries-old Mexican recipes with a regionally driven twist. Popular dishes include ceviches, roasted cauliflower w/ mole poblano tacos, bacon tacos; al pastor; and tomahawk ribeye. For dessert, coconut tres leches and mesquite chocolate cake by Pastry Chef Jakki Rojo.

We had dinner reservations at 6 for two of us. When we were seated we waited over 10 minutes and I finally had to tell the hostess we didn’t have a waitress. We finally got a waitress but she seemed annoyed the entire night. We started with the verde ceviche which was subpar. The fish was fishy and mealy and wasn’t great. I ordered the Baja fish taco and it was literally one giant shrimp beer battered in a tortilla and they left the TAIL ON! Who beer batters a shrimp with a tail!? You can’t even tell until you bite into it. Disgusting. We ordered a second round of drinks and the waitress said it was taking long so she would comp them. However our first drinks were two tall beers and the second beers that were comped were shorts. It was ridiculous, I would have just rather paid and got another tall beer especially since it took 15 minutes to get another drink. To cap off the night, we asked for a desert menu and the waitress took 10 minutes to bring that. She never had a smile on her face and seemed annoyed. I really wanted a fun experience and good dinner before a concert but it was definitely disappointing especially for the price. I won’t be recommending this place unfortunately.

The ribeye was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten, even compared to high end steak houses that charge $80 a plate. Good service, good food, good drinks. Worth checking out.

Was worried about the quality of the restaurant due to other reviews and hadn't been in several years. We specifically overnight on the way to Marfa to stay and eat here. Was not disappointed. The server was exceptional, food wonderful and overall experience an absolute pleasure. Can't wait to come back again!

The restaurant is beautiful. However, the wait staff was uneven. We waited 17 minutes with no service until I flagged a waiter. Note restaurant was not full at all. The food itself would have been excellent; if severed right after it was prepared. When it finally made it to the table it was cold. Our waitress never checked up on us, so we ate around it. When making the reservation I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. It would have been nice if some type of pastry would have been presented. It's the small details that could have made a nice experience to an unforgettable event. Thank you

Wait staff were extremely busy, out of some dishes, forgot parts of order. Some menu items delicious, others missed the mark!

The Brussels sprouts were excellent. We asked for lime pie and ice cream and they did not have any. Service was slow. Nice ambiance.
