   I’ve been to Alta numerous times and have always enjoyed both the food and the ambiance. Although the ambiance is top notch, I was less than impressed with the sea bass on the menu. It was quite fishy in flavor and therefore not very enjoyable. The service I would say was okay as there were a few times where I was searching for my server during my meal.

   Best tapas restaurant in NYC. In fact, one of the best restaurants in NYC. Deserves many many accolades. Total gem.

   A gem. Not a weak link in a chain of delicious and varied dishes. Excellent service by waiter who was interested but not intrusive. A bit noisy downstairs but convivial atmosphere.

   Food was great- the burrata, bass, and fried goat cheese were all highlights- but everything we ordered (pescatarian) was so enjoyable. The chocolate lava cake was also excellent. Service was ok- we ordered espressos when we sat down and repeatedly asked about them for half an hour before they finally came. Our server could have been more forthcoming about this info instead of having us check in every time she walked by. My martini was drinkable but not very cold despite my heavy shake request. Overall would recommend because if the ambiance and food, however set your drink expectations in advance.

   I should have known when it started off badly. I saw that my reservation was cancelled via email. When I called the restaurant, a rude host told me I didn't call him back. This was within an hour, while I was in business meetings. During the meal one of our guests wasn't feeling well, and when we asked the waitress for a cup of tea, she replied that the coffee machine was broken. All we wanted was a cup of hot water. We asked if she could get it from the kitchen, to which she replied "Oh, I can't go into the kitchen." Later, our check was unceremoniously dropped onto our table.

   Alta is an amazing little restaurant tucked away in the West Village area. The food, service and atmosphere are all spot on. This easily can be defined as one of my favorite New York spots -- I will definitely be back!

    Service was incredibly slow. Took 10-15 minutes before a server came over to take our drink order. The paella took over an hour to be delivered to our table. The server acknowledged the delays and comped us the paella but we had a late reservation (9:30pm) and were starving by the time the food arrived so our experience was pretty negative.
