About this restaurant

Port Hadlock, Washington is where you will find Ajax Cafe. This historic waterfront restaurant sits in the Galster House, former home of the founder of the town, Sam Hadlock. The helpful and friendly staff treat every customer who enters the restaurant like family. Ajax Cafe is the place to go for a great meal and some live music. All meals at Ajax Cafe are made from only the freshest ingredients. The restaurant sources out produce, meat and poultry from farms in the area to help support the local economy. Unique dishes like blue cheese and fig ravioli or the Northwestern Fisherman's Stew fill the menu along with staples like oysters, salads and grilled chicken. All the delicious breads and desserts are also made right in house.

Wear a hat, the sillier the better. That's proper etiquette for this playful place.

We got to the restaurant at the correct time for our reservation that we made thru Open Table only to learn that the restaurant had not been contacted by Open Table and had no reservation in our name. The Ajax Cafe was exceptionally crowded. The manger was extremely gracious and worked to get us a table with no delay. He confirmed that they had received no word from Open Table. The restaurant made sure that we had a good dining experience. I would be very hesitant to use Open Table again without checking directly with the restaurant. No longer confident in Open Table. We were lucky that the restaurant cared.

We always try to eat here while spending time at Port Ludlow; food is 'excellent'; service is quite good given the crowds that keep things busy even on week nights. Only real downside is the place is very noisy but sort of reflects the general festive atmosphere of such a place. Note; we used Opentable to book our reservation; the restaurant had no record of it! Still managed to fit us in; kudos to Ajax Cafe.

Décor is very unique and fun. The food was good as well though they were out of the item I really wanted which I thought was odd since we were there as dinner service started. Service was very helpful and friendly.

I got there and they did not get my online reservations for 9 people, but we were seated anyway due to it being Wednesday evening,. I told them it was my son's birthday, but we never received a happy birthday song or a free dish of ice cream, or whatever. The food wasn't liked by all in the party. The carrots were undercooked. The salmon I had was good. The staff friendly and the hats were fun.

We had 3 different dinners on the menu....the salmon, the lamb and the scallops and all 3 were not the quality we are used to. The salmon was dry, the scallops were under-cooked and the lamb was tough and dry. Probably will never return to the Ajax.

This was our first time at the Ajax Cafe. Our reservation was at 7 pm on a Sunday. The place was busy, but for good reason. The food was outstanding. I had clam chowder, made to order using freshly steamed clams. Very tasty. For dinner, I had the pork chop, which was excellent. Desert was chocolate crème de pot, also outstanding.

We have eaten at Ajax Café before a few years ago. It is still a fun, vibrant place to take friends or go for a special occasion. I read some bad reviews regarding service, but even though it was a Saturday night and every table was booked, we had excellent service! Each of us raved about our dinner and the salads we ordered and the brownie dessert was to die for! Worth the trip as it is out of the way for many people....

We had reservations for 6:45 on Saturday before Mother's Day. Three other couples came in with reservations for 7:00. They were not together, but all three couples were seated before us. The host forgot we were there. We were finally seated after an apology. Once seated it took almost 20 minutes before a waitress came to take our order. We then waited another good chunk of time before our meal was brought, along with the bottle of wine we ordered. However, the food was terrific! It was prepared to our liking and presentation was very nice. The waitress never came back to ask how everything was. It took awhile to get our check. We would go back, however, not on a holiday weekend.

Made a reservation for our anniversary, something different and quirky. Arrived on time and table was ready. Menus plopped on table and away she went. Ordered salad that was very good oysters so-so. You would think on the water of Puget Sound they should be exceptional. Bread was good but looked like proof and bake that wasn't baked - needed more time in the oven. Live entertainment, old surfer with a guitar. Dinner special salmon - very well prepared and delicious and NY steak, ordered medium and delivered MR, flagged waitress down to add a little more fire, came back well done with very watery mashed potatoes. Asked for check, plopped down. Paid with CC no thank you, no how was everything. Guess they just don't need repeat business.
