We greatly enjoyed the food -- very nice combination of street food, dhosas, paneers, Jain cuisine, food from several regions of India, almost all very good. High points included the dhosas, sag paneer, a Manchurian cauliflower (a merch appetizer), and others. I will go back.

Meal was okay, but when the waitress lost my debit card and gave me someone else’s the situation wasn’t handled appropriately. I was pretty alarmed that they sent my credit card off with a stranger, and the owner though it was appropriate to ask me for another card to charge my meal while he wasn’t even looking for it. I told him no and that they needed to find my card. My friend and I were supposed to see a movie around the corner so I told him they needed to find it by the end of the night. No one in the restaurant apologized and when the card was found I wasn’t compensated for my trouble at all. This has never happened to me before and I wasn’t particularly happy with the way it was handled, probably won’t be going back.

Delicious food and great ambiance for our table of seven. Service was a little slow, especially as there wasn't a huge crowd the night we went. But the quality of the meal was excellent and the portions were ample.

I love this place. The food is always excellent and such a selection, too! I had the Pondicherry dosa, it was soooo good, my husband had the palek paneer, and our friend had a masala dosa. My only complaint is that it gets really loud. However, after the dinner rush, it quieted down to an acceptable level. The lunch buffet is wonderful as well.

We were pleased with the food and service and the restaurant was very close to our destination later in the evening. Yay for finding a new (to me!) vegetarian restaurant. We were at AHIMSA on a lovely fall evening that felt like summer. We were placed at a window table which would normally be perfect. Unfortunately, a man working at the place of business next door had a LOT of smoke breaks and his cigarette smoke kept wafting over to me. :(

Loved the cuisine! Delicious! But took a very long time to order and then get our food. Will go back, for sure, but never on a Saturday nite.

Ac unit was dripping on us during the meal, waiters wouldn't make eye contact, my masala dosa was served cold, and overall the waiters seemed unable to keep track of our orders :( That being said, a lot of the food we had was tasty, overall 3/5

On other review sites my specialty is Indian restaurants worldwide and this is one of the best I have found anywhere. It is relatively new but everything we sampled was at the very top of its form. The care given to preparation led me to believe that this place might be run by Nepalis as I find trans-Himalayan places generally a cut above the average Indian place. They are usually run by Punjabis who have a tendency to use excess amounts of ghee which often suppresses other flavors. No such treatment here. We tried chana saag, methi mattar, a creamy preparation of peas and minced methi leaves, a perfumed biryani that was clearly baked (as it should be) rather than made in a pan, an onion paratha the equal of which I have never had even in India (and I go twice a year) and some badam halvah that was just dreamy. It had obviously been long cooked, as it should be. If you are in the West Village and peckish for Indian go go go.

I was recommend this restaurant and it lived up to all the nice words I heard. The food was very tasty and good. Especially the starters and the masala dosa was fantastic. A bit to the spicy side, but I survived :-)
