Providence and Michael Cimarusti are honored to announce a special culinary collaboration with chefs Sean Brock of the esteemed Audrey in Nashville and Ouita Michel of the esteemed Holly Hill Inn in Kentucky. Seating: 6:30PM – 8:00PM Cimarusti draws inspiration from the approaches of both chefs to Southern foodways and how they both contribute to our understanding of Southern cuisine and traditions. Chef Ouita Michel is the founder of a diverse restaurant group in central Kentucky. A passionate food activist, she co-founded FoodChain in Lexington, KY, to fight for food access. She is not only an eight-time James Beard semifinalist but also a Culinary Ambassador in the U.S. State Department's Culinary Corps. She authored "Just a Few Miles South: Timeless Recipes from Our Favorite Places," in which she shares her extensive knowledge of Kentucky regional cuisine. This Spring, Ouita was featured in the Tribeca Film Festival entry, "You Belong Here". An exploration of memory, generational legacy, and the seasonality of life through the lens of her cooking career. Michael and Ouita have been close friends for over 30 years, ever since they met as students at the Culinary Institute of America. Chef Brock won the James Beard Award for Best Chef, Southeast in 2010, and was a four-time finalist for Outstanding Chef, as well as a three-time finalist for Rising Star Chef. His first cookbook, Heritage, is a New York Times bestseller and winner of the 2015 American Cooking James Beard Award. Brock's second book, SOUTH, was also a New York Times Best Seller and was nominated for a James Beard Award. Brock hosted the second season of the Emmy Award-winning television show Mind of a Chef, produced by the legendary Anthony Bourdain. In 2019, Sean's culinary mastery was showcased on the renowned Netflix series Chef's Table. Cimarusti and Brock have become friends over the years, meeting at events all over the country, but haven't had the opportunity to cook side by side. Until now! Guests can expect a one-of-a-kind dining experience as these chefs present a thoughtfully curated menu with a Southern by way of Southern California influence. Friends in Town, a dining series by OpenTable x Visa, allows guests to experience collaborations between two chefs from different cities creating unique, limited time menus. Access to tickets will be available for eligible Visa credit cards through the Visa Dining Collection on OpenTable. Terms and conditions apply*.

When we arrived, we were led to our table. It felt so very adult & serious. Then came the cocktail and food menus. Carlos, who appears so serious & professional, is actually very charming & engaging. In fact, they ALL were; they all have this air of professionalism, astuteness & graciousness, but they are all so extremely & uniquely personable. Enoch, our other service professional, is mellow, sweet, funny & informative. Then there's Mr. Poto, who is famous for his congeniality. He comes by, welcomes us, shakes our hands, and everything feels right with the world (even though this administration just bombed Iran that evening.) New this year is that there are now 2 menus: a $325 Classic & a $450 Chef's Tasting. For the Classic, you'll select your main (usu salmon, duck or A5 wagyu); with the Chef's Tasting, you get all 3. We elected to do the Classic (the men ordered duck; my sister & I chose salmon) and added a couple of their sinfully delicious and artfully beautiful uni egg. (The only reason we did not select A5 wagyu is that we all had wagyu in Japan this year.) The thing about Providence that my sister and I (who spent half our pre-adult lives in Japan) absolutely love is the Japanese aesthetic, thru & thru. Their logo is evocative of the Zen/Japanese enso/circle. Their approach to seafood is of a thoughtful, masterful craftsman, continuously working toward improvement or kaizen. The flavours are deliciously understated. Everything is just enough, nothing is heavy handed or 'extra'. Both the food & the flavours are delicate, ephemeral and harmonious. And their service speaks to Japan's omotenashi. For anyone deciding whether to dine here, it is a memorable experience. At least once in a lifetime. Or to celebrate. And if you can, celebrate yearly. On balance of food, service & atmosphere, Providence is the best in LA.

Passionate about gastronomy and wine, I arrived at Providence excited, and while the evening began well, it sadly failed to deliver on many fronts. We were greeted warmly by an elegant gentleman and led to the bar, where we enjoyed a beautifully crafted cocktail: the Bee’s Sneeze. A lovely start. However, despite our table being ready, we were left at the bar far too long, which felt like an obvious attempt to encourage extra consumption. At the table, another staff member, whose exact role was unclear, took over. Her tone felt pushy rather than thoughtful, nudging us toward the chef’s menu and premium wine pairing without clear explanation. When I mentioned a mild gluten intolerance, I was assured the menu had none; yet several amuse-bouches and the bread contained gluten, and no alternative bread was offered to me. This lack of attention was a surprising oversight at this level. The Pacific oyster with caviar, lime, and herbs was excellent. The Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs 2021 paired well but lacked presence. The tomato basil sashimi was vibrant and beautifully complemented by the Tantaka Txakoli 2022, bright, clean, and citrus driven. Then came missteps: an overcooked scallop, a single paper-thin slice of Liberty Farms duck. Regarding the wines, there were some highlights but also flaws. The Bandol rosé 2023, freshly bottled, lacked depth, coming across as austere and closed. This structured terroir wine did not suit the spicy, acidic dish it accompanied and felt dull in that context. The red blend was misrepresented by staff as containing Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay — incorrect information that undermines trust. The cheese course was uninspired: a bland Comté, a dry house cheese with dull truffle, and an overpowering rooftop honey masking all flavors. Desserts were overly sweet and lacked finesse, ending the meal weakly. There were a few bright moments, but overall too much inconsistency and carelessness. I left disappointed and will not return.

It was a great experience. I enjoyed the classic course, which included some Japanese ingredients. These were familiar to us from our experiences in Japan (my home country), and it's rare to encounter them at such a high level in the U.S.—except here. Providence was truly the best dining and cultural experience we’ve had in the U.S. I hope to come again someday.

Celebrating my birthday at Providence was quite amazing. I thought it was pretty dope that there were two other people at the bar celebrating birthdays as well. The bartender, Kim, gave exceptional service and was very knowledgeable on the food and drinks — which were amazing. I appreciate everyone from the hosts to the chefs for truly making it a night to remember, and I will definitely return in the future!
