   Overall experience was good. The She Crab soup with Sherry drizzle was an excellent beginning to the meal. Unfortunately, the 16 oz Ribeye steak was very disappointing. It was extremely tough and had been seared to the point of being burnt on the outside. On the bright side, my wife’s 8 oz Filet was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. Finished the evening with the famous coconut cake which was delicious. Service was outstanding.

   Ate here last time I was in Charleston and it was wonderful. The return trip? Well not so much. The She crab soup was average. The swordfish, absolutely tasteless, overcooked and dry. The sauce served with it also tasteless. I liked the vegetables though. Bad night? Chef off? hard to explain the difference.

   The Peninsula Grill has been my favorite fine dining restaurant in downtown Charleston since 1998 ( I moved to Charleston in 1997 and visited the Peninsula on advice from a co-worker). Continued excellence over an extended time is very difficult. There are some fine restaurants in Charleston to choose from. Honestly, it would be hard to go wrong with numerous established restaurants. This is the one I choose for celebrations, special events, holidays, etc. It's simply a cut above.

   Our Valentine Dinner was nearly a classic evening at the Peninsual Grill. We were seated at our favorite table and covered up by the staff, as usual. The menu for the evening was outstanding, and the choices exceptional. The She Crab soup was very rich and tasty as was the lobster, but the filet of beef was uncharacteristically overcooked. Both my wife and I had the same experience. I am not sure if this was due to the chef or a fluke event. Our server did a great job, but the main course left an impression that will be difficult to forget. We are loyal patron of the restaurant, but we ask the management to note our concerns.

   The Peninsula Grill is a bright and shining spot in the boisterous Charleston food scene. The servers are extremely knowledgeable, stunningly well groomed and very articulate in their serving skills. It has a beautiful entrance, pleasant interior and lovely crisp linens. The food is perfection. And if you miss their famous Coconut Cake then you went to the Ball and had an empty dance card. We visit Charleston 4 times a year and the Peninsula Grill is always on our must dine restaurant list. Make your reservations early. They are always booked.

   The rack of lamb was outstanding. The root vegetables served as a side complimented the meat. I chose a Zinfandel wine that added to the enjoyment. Finishing with the coconut cake, it was a meal to remember. My wife ordered a steak with a root vegetable gratin. She is still talking about how well the steak was seasoned and cooked, A very memorable night of dining.

   Beautiful experience for our 25th Anniversary even if we did not get our Anniversary dessert complimentary. It’s always our go to for many years. Staff is always over the top friendly and accommodating. It’s a Charleston must when in town and assuming it’s in your budget.

   Best filet mignon I have had, anywhere! The grouper special was highly recommended, but it was not better than the steak. The cold water oysters was perfect. Overall, the restaurant is a little pricey, but if you love steak you are willing to go on the high side. Highly recommend this restaurant!
