Treated my niece to Afternoon Tea. Living in CT all my life, this was my first time dining at Old Lyme Inn and it won’t be my last. I have recommended to a few friends that we need to visit not only for the food and drink, but the atmosphere. Afternoon Tea was a delight! We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the tea. We are already planning our next one!

Very pleased with the quality and preparation of the food. Service was good. We were in the small room where the bar is, which was quite homey and vintage New England looking, and not too loud. we went to the Side Door jazz club attached for a show after dinner, and it was excellent as usual. Great little music venue.

The food was outstanding, we both ordered the flank steak and it was cooked as requested. The mashed potatoes were delicious, and I am not a big potato fan. We were surprised our shrimp cocktail appetizer did not contain raw shrimp, the shrimp arrived cooked and seasoned, which was different. Service was good but our server pleasant but a bit unorganized - he should have provided the list of specials/additions in advance of coming around for us to place our order. Coffee was delivered at least five minutes before the cream and sugar arrived to the table, all should have come at the same time.

Thank you, Maryann for your thorough constructive assessment. We are always working to make sure all aspects of the guests' experience topnotch. Hope you will join us again for a seamless, perfect experience.

Tea at the Old Lyme Inn was a delightful experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, the decor was attractive, and the food was delicious, with tasty little sandwiches, scones, and a selection of bite-sized desserts--far more than I could eat. It was rather expensive, but well worth the cost.

It was the third time my daughter and I went for afternoon tea, this time with two other friends. The waiter was very nice and very helpful, helping us decide on the tea each of us wanted. The food was excellent and more than enough. And I have to say that the owner was more than gracious and made us feel so welcome. Definitely will be back!

Old Lyme Inn is a lovely place. However, we stayed for a nice Sunday breakfast ordering a Belgium waffle which was highly disappointing. No flavor, almost like a frozen waffle, not freahly made. Fresh fruit was fresh and good coffee.
Old Lyme InnResponded on March 17, 2025
Thank you, Eileen for your assessment. I am sorry that the Belgium Waffle did not appear to be freshly made. We absolutely make them fresh and NEVER frozen. Did you address this with your server? We would have invited you into our kitchen to see the process. That being said, perhaps there was something wrong with the batter. This will be addressed with the kitchen. I hope you will give us another opportunity to deliver excellent food and service.

The Old Lyme is a lovely place to visit. The restaurant is busy and they seem short staffed. We had to wait for our table and the bartender needed help as it took awhile for a our drinks. Our server was friendly. She was hustling to attend to a lot of people. There was a private party in another room so that may have accounted for some of the delays. Our winter kale salad was excellent and the halibut entree was very good. I had the veal piccata special and the chef missed the mark. It was more like a breaded schnitzel and over salted while the potatoes and broccoli were bland. For the price this should’ve been better. Perhaps the kitchen was overwhelmed too. We were able to take our unfinished drinks to the jazz club which was nice. I think with a few adjustments, the restaurant experience will be better.

Thank you, Ann for your honest assessment. We will look into all the areas that you addressed in your review. We take our guest's satisfaction very seriously. I hope you will give us another opportunity.
