   Food was wildly varied in taste and quality. Chicken wings are tiny dry and flavorless but the cheese curds salads and drinks were very good.

   Both mine and my husbands dishes were not good… we are not picky people at all and this is by far the worst meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant in Madison. Service was really slow and our server didn’t care to ask us how our food was once. The vegan mushroom dish resembled a microwaveable meal and didn’t even have mushrooms in it. We will not be going back.

   The food was average compared to other offerings downtown. The service was abysmal. It took us twice as long to get in and out of there as it should.

   We loved our dinner at The Merchant. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cocktails were perfect. And the dinner was amazing! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his catfish dinner. I had the fried chicken and I can’t decide which part of the dish I enjoyed more. The collard greens were SO delicious! And I highly recommend the corn bread as a side. The chicken, itself, was crispy and delicious. I look forward to returning when we can sit on the patio!

   Fun dinner with friends. The service was excellent, food delicious and beautifully presented. The ambience was perfect for a night out with friends.

   The dinners (four people) were quite good, and the noise level not bad. The blackened catfish with optional cornbread was particularly good. The problem was the service: excruciatingly slow and -- worse yet -- uncommunicative. When we arrived, we waited a long time for our server, Austin, to take our order. Then at the end, we waited 25 minutes for two pre-packaged takeout desserts. We would have been more understanding if Austin had come to our table to explain and apologize, but he simply avoided us. As for value, we would give higher marks were it not for those desserts: two very small brownies at $11 each.

   It’s a very nice place to have a glass of wine along with small dishes.  The staff is attentive.  The menu is very ambitious. The entrées are described very well, but the execution can be improved.

   Friday night fish fry was great- excellent tasting Cole slaw and freshly breaded fish. More than enough fries and good tartar sauce. Side of sour dough bread was tasty too. Tempted by the cheese curd, which had a super fresh and amazing texture. These are NOT pulled out of the freezer from a bag! Service was great and enjoyed a cocktail prior to dinner, which there are plenty of interesting ones to choose from.

   Food was very good. It was a bit loud and the tables very close together. We waited 20 minutes till our drinks come out. Otherwise, the service was on point.

    Their menu at the restaurant was different than their online menu so it was hard to order for our party. The drinks were excellent and the service was great.
