  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Great for scenic views
  • Neighborhood gem
Welcome to The Magpie.
We pride ourselves as a beautiful riverside gastropub with an amazing dining room overlooking the Thames, serving fresh seasonal food with an impressive range of real ales, craft beers, an extensive gin list and a great wine list.
We offer full table service in every part of our premises.

We are a dog-friendly pub as long as they are with well-behaved hoomans but do not allow dogs in our dining area if you would like to bring a four-legged friend please let us know and we can seat you in our bar area.
Luckily enough, we are lucky to have a car park just across the road if you are coming from afar.

We are now an Over21 pub only, please bear this in mind.

Since I last visited, the pub has been refurbished, it is much brighter, more modern while still keeping the “old pub” charm. It was extremely busy in the pub, the garden and the upstairs function room. Being so busy did not affect standards, the service from Kat was extremely good and the food delicious! The fact that the pub is right on the river opposite the small yacht club means it is the perfect location with a stunning view, paddle boarders were literally paddling up to the pub, and we were able to feed the swans from our table. This used to be a good pub, now it has been refurbished it is a GREAT pub.

We had a lovely lunch including two children under 10yr. The new decor is fabulous and the food was delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful and particularly Kat looked after us very well.

They had run out of most of the menu and dessert menu meaning our first choices for lunch and dessert weren’t available. This was extremely disappointing. Our waiter then waitress were apologetic and friendly. My main needed more potatoes - one new potato cut in half is not sufficient.

    - we reserved a table and got a table in the most awkward position. There was a table to the side available but was told it was reserved…. We reserved too… only to find later a walk-in customer took the table. - the Camembert that we received was completely different to what was described on the menu. The bread wasn’t sourdough bread, there was no honey, rosemary or garlic on the Camembert - only a weird red sauce to the side. - we waited 30mins for the mains to be served. No apologies from staff or warning from them that there is delay in the kitchen - we ordered fish + chips and a cheese Berger - as we were served the waitress explained that there was no ketchup. - the roast had caramelised begs on the menu - none were and the portion of the roast was minimal. - the service in general was really sub-standard.

Last day of business before closing for refurb, I rarely visit this local as all past experiences have been poor in service, quality and ambience but wanted to show support. This refurb will need to do a whole lot more than just the decor to get me to return, substantial raining and common sense needs to be installed along with an updated menu

When we arrived there was a guy virtually blocking the entrance who was drunk on the pavement. We snuck past asap but he was then led back into the pub so the first objective was sitting as far away from his party as possible but it wasn't a great start. Despite being only. 6.30pm the bar was noisy and just a tad intimidating while the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. Our reserved table was in the middle of all the hustle and bustle so we asked to sit in a quieter area of the pub. Service was decent from then on but the waiter didn't seem confident and he was chaperoned by a waitress which doesn't fill you with confidence. Food was good but the wine by the glass price (Rioja) differed to the menu price. We didn't complain because we just wanted to leave, needless to say we chose to swerve dessert. I'm sure this pub is a different proposition in the summer due to it's riverside location but it's not for us.
