Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. My husband had the special, which was a braised lamb shank. The presentation was great, and he said it was amazing. I had the rock fish, and it usually is a nice piece of fish, but this was small, tiny pieces of fish and way too much seasoning on it. Luckily for me, I was not very hungry. I was very disappointed being my birthday dinner and all. We will be back. It's still a good local place.

Everything was top notch, calamari was the best, most tender I've ever had! The lamb was suburb, cooked perfectly and lovely that it is local! One of our favorite places to celebrate!
