The Royal is operated by James Hickson, who has a solid hospitality background having learned his trade at well-loved restaurants and gastropubs including St John, Great Queen Street, The Canton Arms and Moro. Good energy in the room. Innovative menu. Everything we had was really well cooked and presented. Caeser salad; scallops w cauliflower and punchy sauce. Lamb breast. All very enjoyable. Standout was sourdough w marmite butter, yes you read that right. Sourdough w marmite butter. I'd like to see a few more options on the wine list.
