Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bredEast-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. With decades of experience behind him, ‘Pop’ founded Poppie’s. The shops are filled with retro memorabilia from Pop’s childhood, The uniforms channel a 1950s vibe, and the music is tailored to each shop. Located in a former police station, our venue has added some colour and vibrancy to the area, not to mention the 4th best pizza in the world to the locality. The pizzeria in Kentish Town has a great space upstairs, with huge windows so you can sit and people watch all day long, or even sit on the terrace...the only space like that you will find on Kentish Town Road.You can also find a stunning basement that can be hired for a number of functions from any birthday (kids are definitely welcome) through to office get-togethers or DJ nights. It's here that you'll find some cool booths that were once the police cells over a hundred years ago.The pizzas are the same that you will find in Clapham, Florence, Bologna, Rome, Milan....wherever you find a Berberè!

The bloke on the left. Well he’s our father, our Babuji. His journey started back in 1959. Before arriving in the UK Babuji decided to travel through Bangladesh, India then Pakistan, teaching, learning and eating lots on the way. In particular the street stalls of Calcutta, Mumbai, and Lahore were his favourites. Our food is a homage to the street vendors and Cafés of South Asia. Combining dishes that Babuji encountered in his journey. From Bengali bites, to street stall favourites of Mumbai, and traditional homely Pakistani dishes. By the way, we eat with our hands, cos that’s the Babuji way.
