About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions

We began in 1964. It was the time of the Beatles and Rolling Stones and an air of great fun. Anything seemed possible, it was the Sixties! Grumbles was the first restaurant in London with a silly name!

In the early days as we rushed around the tables, we hardly had time to notice the faces of the likes of Beatles, Mamas and Papas, Julie Christie, Michael Foot, Christine Keeler, Ian le Frenais, Rod Steiger and so many many more as well as Jane Lapotaire sometimes helping with the Founder Jeremy Friend washing up!

Grumbles and its customers have been such a winning combination for over 60 years and we thank you for all your support.

Overall a good local restaurant. We were able to sit outside in a quiet street for Central London.

We had a very enjoyable experience eating at Grumbles. I would recommend it very much. Not high end, but very relaxed and pleasant service. Nice wait staff. Food was good, basic but very well prepared and presented. Reasonably priced and we were glad we ate there, would eat there again.

Coming back after about 20 years. Service and ambience great. Food a bit more basic and not as good as back in the day, but assume that cost pressures are high! Felt like it was expensive for what it was, but perhaps location driven

Love the food — both set menu and ala carte options. Service is great. It’s a cozy restaurant— not too many tables which makes it very personalized, but you’ll wan to book ahead. Escargot was delicious.

My family and all our friends rate Grumbles more highly than any other restaurant in the area for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere, its simplicity, the quality of the food, speed of service, and attentiveness of the staff. We basically go hardly anywhere else. It is just a tiny bit off the beaten track, in Pimlico (Churton Street), but only 5 to 6 minutes walk from Victoria Station (straight up Wilton Street past Sainsburys, on into Denbigh Street, left at the lights and it's on your right) - so easy to get to, and well worth the effort. The staff retention rate is also most impressive - some have been there years, betokening a happy working atmosphere which transfers itself into the overall feel of the place. Tony Marshall

Food was great and it has that wonderfully local feeling with a lively clientele. I remember it from when I lived in the area in the 90s so enjoyed the return visit even though the waitress waiting downstairs was brisk and quite frankly offputting in her cursory service
