Returned here after several years away, and it’s better than ever! Not just the very good fried oysters, which haven’t changed, but the fresh fish (Boston scrod, striped bass) and the exceptionally fresh raw bivalves (big, juicy Chincoteagues from Virginia, remarkably fresh Kumimotos from out West) are standouts. The prices seem pretty reasonable, considering. The room is loud during the height of lunch, but the noise seems compartmentalized and is manageable. Service is good, the kitchen slow.

I brought my mother here for her birthday. It was the perfect place to go. The food was outstanding and it was very easy for an eighty-four year old to get to it from the subway. Thanks!!!

I booked the Oyster Bar for a reunion lunch with old friends but when I arrived the host insisted I didn't have a reservation. As it turned out, not only did I have a reservation through Open Table--which I found in an email on my phone--he had already seated my friends. He did not apologize. The waiters were terrific, but the food was nothing special -- below-average clam chowder, for example, and a cold seafood platter that was tasteless. The noise was deafening--hard for our threesome to have a conversation. In short, a disappointment.

Same old thing as 50 years ago Had to call the waiter over several times to order. Oyster roast had only a few oysters i had to search for but mostly broth. Our cocktails had mostly ice and hardly any liquor. Perfect if your not looking for a great meal. Did love the coleslaw!!

Très bruyant. Les beignets de crabe n'avaient pas le goût de crabe... La sole n'était pas fraiche...

Dining at the Oyster Bar was a fabulous experience dining underground in the midst of the iconic Grand Central Station. Although we're not oyster fans, the items we chose were good but rather basically prepared. We shared the scallops over mashed potatoes which were excellent as an appetizer; linguini with white clam sauce good, as was the fried filet of sole with vegetables. The key lime pie was excellent. The wait staff were cordial and attentive and as far as the ambience, it kind of feels like dining in a large, historic cafeteria. Overall it was good, but to be honest, at that price point, I can't say it exceeded my expectations.
