Desde 1746, el edificio que alberga esta taberna ha jugado un papel importante en el establecimiento de nuestro país, primero como un lugar de descanso para los viajeros en diligencia hacia el oeste y luego como un punto de encuentro secreto para George Washington, marqués de Lafayette, y otros líderes de la revolución estadounidense. Se cree que durante el horrible invierno de 1777-1778 en Valley Forge, una figura importante del Ejército Continental, el cerebro militar Friedrich Von Steuben, designó la taberna como un escondite secreto de municiones para los mensajeros de dicho ejército.
