While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

    Love, love LOVE this place. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, this is the place to be. Hang out with friends, or just you and your love. The food is great, ambience is great. Italian place at the Meritage resort.

    This is always a great locals spot. The food was delicious. I seldom get a filet when dining out but I was in the mood for a good steak. They delivered! Cooked to medium rare perfection. And the potatoes, mushrooms and sauce were excellent accompaniments. My daughter had the cod special. She didn't finish it all so asked for a to go box. The helper slipped when putting the left overs in the box and it ended up on the table. We insisted they just shovel it in but no, they made her a new order in a new to go box. The manager came over to apologize, we insisted that wasn't necessary but she said it's their house protocol. Wow. We were floored by their kindness. delicious food, check. Next level service, check too.
