Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. “With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine,” he says. “Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents – along with others from around Charleston – will appreciate what we have to offer.” Fat Hen’s main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country cuisine. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, pearl onions & mushrooms. Fat Hen’s Short Ribs, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth. We also deal with local farmers to provide a great source of fresh farm vegetables to enhance your dining experience.

One of my favorite restaurants. We come to the Fat Hen every time we come down to the Charleston area. The food is delicious. The service is excellent. Tonight I had the pasta special which was delicious especially the homemade pasta. My husband had the spicy shrimp and rice which he loved. We will definitely be back.

We try to eat brunch at Fat Hen whenever we are in the area. The food is wonderful. Have never had a bad meal. The service is also wonderful. All service personnel go out of their way to make the meal enjoyable.

It was highly recommended, but was not as all as tasty as it was claimed to be. The creme brulet French toast had no hint of creme brulet and the strawberries were not soaked like claimed to be. The French toast came out burnt and had burned pieces on it that were not part of toast. The eggs Benedict looked beautiful and at first bite was delicious, by the second we discovered the whites were not cooked. The French onion soup was delicious, I will say that is one of my favorites I've had. I was not impressed with the service a the server only was attentive at first, after we ordered we barely saw her.

I loved everything about this place except the fact that there was a table that was there the whole time that caused us to not be to hear each other speak even though we were only a few feet apart. Everything about the service and food were above and beyond. We also had a few major allergies that the chef happily worked around.
