   With all the amazing food in Portland sometimes the Restaurants that have been here for a long time deliver an amazing experience and exceptional food. El Gaucho offers top shelf servers and beautiful food. We will continue to go back and back for special occassions.

   We were greeted by 2 wonderful hostesses! They were very accommodating and funny. Our food was wonderful!! I’ve never had a complaint. Kitchen is doing an amazing job! Cocktails were on point! Here’s were things start going downhill. I’m a Rêvelers club member and used my birthday reward for my dinner with friends. I gave the server my name and club number. He had a problem with the system so some other guy came over and said he needed to see my email to verify the date of the reward. The way he went about doing it was quite offensive. He made a comment about how the system works and I may have read the email wrong and it expired. He said some people try to get away with it after its expired. Everyone at the table was really upset. How he handled the situation gave some insight as to why our service was poor. Our server Austin was nice at first, but then he was slow. He forgot us and made snarky comments when we asked why our drinks were taking so long. Whenever we needed anything we had to ask another server because Austin kept disappearing. We arrived at 8:30 and somehow ended up leaving the restaurant at 11:45. Not because we were chatting or anything. Service was that slow. Took 20 min. to get our bill. I won’t be back for a while. Worst birthday experience! They have amazing food, but if service is bad I don’t need to dine there. Portland has so many great restaurants to explore!

   I went for my wife’s 25th birthday after going to the one in Seattle for our anniversary. Everything was good until I got my steak. I ordered it medium rare and when I got it and cut into it, it was rare. I didn’t say anything because I’m not one to send stuff back because I get embarrassed. Everything from the starters to the meal itself was great. Also it was quite loud. At the one in Seattle it was much quieter. Other than that I really enjoyed my time, but if I was looking for something quieter and personal I wouldn’t come back.

   It’s ok. I think it’s over priced. Food is good but over priced in my opinion. Also, their was a 20% service charge on our bill with no explanation. The waitress said it explains in on the receipt. The receipt just mentioned theirs a service charge on the bill. If that’s the way of waiters making sure they get tipped it’s a little rude. Explain it.

   Filet Mignon was outstanding as always. Superb wine list with lots of Northwest options! Table 8 great for six in quiet section near Bar.

   I don't like that a 20% tip is automatically included in the tab - kind of contradicts the idea of tipping in the first place. I like the food and go there often, but not as much as in the past due to the tipping - it just doesn't feel right. And I always tip 20% on my own, but a mandatory 20% annoys me.

   I’m not a meat eater but this is still my favorite place to dine. I took my son on a “date” this time and he really enjoyed every minute of it. Our server was wonderful, very professional and as we watched every person going about their jobs, we spoke often of the young man filling the water glasses. So refreshing to see each person take pride in their services! Thank you so much for keeping this resteraunt consistently classy.

    This was the second time I’ve had dinner at El Gaucho. After a long interregnum the restaurant is still beautiful, the food still great, and the same impeccable service. I cannot recommend El Gaucho enough.
