General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream.     We enjoyed our entire experience at The Dorset. Are in town for a big 2 day concert event at the Rogers Centre and a friend who knows the city recommended we eat here. We both came for the traditional fish & chips and were so impressed. We upgraded to the fresh flown in halibut and it was delicious. The chips were perfect. The sauces (tartar and curry) both were excellent and the serving of mushy peas yummy. Staff were warm and friendly and we enjoyed our comfy seats and table. Really liked being able to see the kitchen upstairs while the chefs worked away. Also had the dessert which was phenomenal. Sticky pudding and the steamed sponge with custard sauce. Excellent in all aspects. The restaurant is beautifully designed and decorated. And the loos were so elegant. Highly satisfied with our dining experience.
