   I was surprised at how little people were there considering it was a week before Christmas! Food was delicious and ambiance was great too. And honestly it was quite nice that it wasn't overly crowded, was much more personal and romantic. We had the onion soup and shrimp and grits to start, then the scallops and wagyu beef as our mains and they were all just fantastic. One issue we had is that we were sat against what we can only assume was the kitchen wall - so you could literally hear every time they ran the water for dishes and the clanking. When we first heard the noise my husband and I immediately went to our coat/handbags to check b/c it sounded like one of our children had stowed one of their race cars in our belongings! The other "off" thing I would mention is my husband ordered his steak medium rare and it definitely came out rare. However he isn't the loudest of speakers and our server may have had a hard time understanding him. We aren't the type of people to send food back, so it was fine as is.. just make sure you enunciate! All in all I would definitely recommend-We will be back!

   The food was good, just not outstanding. To put our review in context, we have eaten in many good restaurants around the world. We sat by the fireplace which was nice, but wished the table and chairs were a little more up market, instead of the wire furniture that was there. Having said that, the entry way had a nice look and portended something better. The wine choice recommended to us did not turn out to be very good in our opinion although we opted for one of the less expensive choices.

   Friendly welcoming staff. The pork dish was moist and full of flavor as was the swordfish. Service was attentive and timely.

   Enjoyed our evening at Clifton Inn. Porch was romantic and very quiet. Rockfish was perfectly cooked and lamb shank was tender and full of flavor. Portion sizes were perfect for our appetites. Feel the restaurant needs to serve vegetables with the entrees or offer vegetables as a "for the table" separate purchase. Service was attentive--often overly so. Wait staff wanted to remove my wine glass before I had finished the wine. Will definitely return when looking for a special night out in a quiet romantic atmosphere.

   This is a gem. Gracious country inn service with continental food. Lovely setting and impeccable service.

   Dinner service was very slow. The restaurant seemed short staffed. We were seated immediately and drink orders were taken in a timely manner but the food was not coming out of the kitchen fast enough. Waited nearly an hour for our entrees. Decided not to get dessert due to the wait time. Food was very good once it arrived. Waitstaff was apologetic about the service.

   Very limited menu at lunch. Very deserted at lunch. Nice outdoor seating in a screened porch. Lovely location.

   This restaurant had ups and downs. So we were wondering what is will be like. We had a wonderful evening. Food was excellent, fresh, creative and delicate. The new chef (was the sous chef) did a really good job. He knows how to pair flavors, knows how to surprize you. The salads were incredible (so much change compared to most of the restaurants with heavy or oily side dishes). The main course was more straightforward, but good. The dessert menu was the weakest part: cheese, or chocolate cake? or pudding, this is it. Not a big selection and nothing light. I was expecting something more elaborate, like strawberry and green lemon sorbet, croquant that would match more with the spirit of the whole dinner. I got pudding, which was very good, but too rich and sugary. But overall, very good at excellent dinner. We will be back for sure.

    We spend another lovely evening at the Clifton Inn. We try to eat here every time we are in Charlottesville. We had the four course tasting menu with the wine pairings. We were very pleased that there was a choice of the entrée. Everything was delicious. We will return again.
