   We go to Anson every time we visit Charleston. So close to Planters Inn, and with food and service as good as anywhere in the world, we’re always thrilled!

   We enjoyed our recent dinner at Anson. We had the beets, roasted oysters, trout dip and the crispy flounder. Paul was our server. He was very welcoming, explained the menu and provided some suggestions. The upstairs dining room was romantic and comfortable.

   We went as a family for a birthday dinner and they did not disappoint! The drinks, food, and service was excellent. Our server Jacksin was wonderful. Thank you for making a special occasion memorable for us.

    One of our party ordered the halibut. It appeared to be prepared perfectly, but was actually very dry. The server removed it and brought a fresh preparation. Sadly, it was better but not as palatable as halibut can be. At $44, she had higher expectations for the finished product. We were very pleased, however, to find and enjoy a Kistler wine that paired nicely with most of our dinners. Darnell was a friendly and attentive server in all the right ways. He did his best to solve the halibut issue. When we arrived, I explained to the Maitre D that we were familiar with the recent Commanding Officer of Her Majesty’s Ship ANSON - the Royal Navy’s newest fast attack submarine. The ship was named after Admiral ANSON who had been sent by the Crown to protect Charleston Harbor from pirates and privateers when South Carolina was still under English rule. The Maitre D kindly provided me with the Manager’s card with contact information. I will reach out to him in case he is interested in establishing correspondence with the restaurant’s namesake British vessel. The noise rating is a bit low owing mostly to a men’s business dinner at an adjacent table where several consecutive drinks were certainly fueling a crescendo in volume and hilarity. Overall, our first experience at ANSON was pleasant and probably worthy of a return visit when we return to Charleston. Thank you.
