Romantic atmosphere, great service from our waiter with a very good wine choice which we appreciate. Would love to have a more private seating for our special occasion to make the evening ideal. Overall a wonderful experience and will look forward to be back again.

I wanted to celebrate my birthday with an elegant lunch with my husband. We chose Alexander’s because we’ve previously enjoyed their food. I ordered their lunch prix fix, choosing the little gem salad, the filet and coconut creme brûlée. My husband chose the beet salad as his starter. When our salads arrived, the woman delivering the salads attempted to serve my husband a Caesar salad. He declined it, stating that he’d ordered a beet salad. Then the weirdness began, as the woman said, “We don’t have a beet salad.” My husband said, “I’m pretty sure that I ordered a beet salad.” She gave us a look of disgust, and added, “We don’t have a beet salad on our menu.”, and asked if he’d like the Caesar salad. He replied, “No; I’d like my beet salad.” She asked again if he’d like the Caesar salad anyway, and he said that he wouldn’t. She went to get a menu, and discovered that there IS a beet salad on the menu. This exchange should have never happened, especially in an upscale restaurant. She left my little gem salad with no flatware, so my husband had to get the attention of a manager to request it. We ordered corn as a side, and I asked to delete the shisito peppers. When our server brought it out, he mentioned that it was prepared without the peppers, but it wasn’t. Another manager stopped by to ask about our lunch, and we mentioned the mistake. I’d pushed the corn to the end of our table in hope that our server would notice, but he didn’t check on us. The corrected corn dish came out after our lunch entrees were finished. When the bill arrived, the corn was on our bill, and no accommodation was made for all of the missteps. Alexander’s was decorated with Christmas poinsettias in March, and the ceiling lighting was flickering above our table. The formerly upscale restaurant seemed rundown, and our service was subpar. What’s happened to Alexander’s?

Service and food were both excellent. Noise was moderate, not too loud but not hushed. The only complaint is that we were seated in a corner, right up against a wall. We had made reservations a few weeks prior, so IMO this location should be reserved for walk-ins, not someone that made it a point to reserve ahead of time. No one asked if the table (location) was ok or not.

The food was great, I feel like it could be better though. The Mac and cheese did not have much flavor and the bone marrow was just overly salty. The steaks were good. My date had the rib eye it was full of flavor. I got the filet mignon which was good but not great. Brussels sprouts were very good and the hamachi shots were delicious. Service was great.
