Zingerman's Roadhouse Ratings and Reviews
They will go out of their way. This was our second visit. The first visit was for dinner and my son’s girlfriend could not decide between two dishes so the waiter said not to worry, they split the plate and gave her a half portion of each, something I’ve never seen in 40 years of dining out, plus the food was fantastic. Our second visit was to celebrate my son’s graduation but we forgot to order a cake, so we called the night before but the restaurant needed 48 hours for a cake order but directed us to their bakehouse down the road, we called the bakehouse, they had a cake and the gal who took the order said she would personally bring the cake over to the restaurant on her way home. When we arrived, sure enough, the waitress was aware of our cake and it was delicious.
We had a great dinner at the Roadhouse recently to celebrate a graduation. We started with drinks at the bar and enjoyed the lively pace and friendly banter of the bartender. Next we moved to a perfect booth and our waiter, Joe L didn't miss a thing! He was friendly, funny and kept a great pace through the meal . We all had something different and it was all delicious and beautifully presented. This was our fourth time at the Roadhouse and it just keeps getting better!

Excellent food. Everything is made with top ingredients and is super fresh and flavorful.
Yes this felt like a roadhouse - we did kinda watch others food come out so we had an idea what to expect. Ribs looked ok - my S/O ordered the mac N cheese of some sort - the portion was not that big but was enough for him. I got a salad with beets and onions and goat cheese. Big hunks of goat cheese and lots of onions. Nothing stand out ish. The waiter asked my S/O if he wanted dessert- and he did order something. He didn't even look at me to ask me...so I had to interject that i wanted a macaroon before he left the table. It was a minor oversight..but still. The macaroon was pretty hard. I would probably go elsewhere for dinner if back in Ann Arbor as there are so many places to go.

You can never go wrong eating at Zingerman's Roadhouse. We brought our French Exchange student so she could have an American dining experience. She loved the Mac and cheese and the barbecue pork. So do we. ;)
Standard of Comfort
Usually busy but worth the wait - at first they didn't take reservations so that is a welcome change. Great variety of choices without being overwhelming. The quality of food and preparation is outstanding. The service is attentive and most times Ari is there to chat with. We loved it when it opened and go often since we moved back to the area.

Stay away from the gluten free fried chicken. It was burnt and dry - even the dark meat. Everyone else in our party thought the food was great. If you need to eat gluten free, you may want to eat somewhere else.
I just don't get it
We seem to go to the roadhouse every 3 to 5 years hoping for a good experience but it's always a let down. This time, for example, three of us ordered burgers. The buns are overly thick (i.e. too bready) and are almost stale (on a previous trip the bun was, actually, very stale). One burger came with cheese -two pieces of cheese laid on the burger after it was put on the bun (i.e. the cheese wasn't melted). It wasn't very appetizing and not what we were expecting when ordering a 'cheeseburger'. The macaroni & cheese on the mac & 3 vegetarian platter was pretty good, though. The gelato was good although one of the flavors had ice crystals in it. Anyhow, I hate to be a hater but I just don't get the Roadhouse mystique and the lines out front. We always find it to be expensive ($15 - $20 macaroni & cheese?) and it never lives up to our expectations.
Another great breakfast at the Roadhouse!
Great coffee, great lox and bagels, great eggs and toast, great service. Love the Roadhouse!

I've eaten here several times and not sure what happened last night but not impressed. All four meals came out warm temperature (Salisbury steak, Mac and cheese, ribs and bouillabaisse). Ribs were just microwaved warm again instead of complete fresh meal. I was never brought sweetener to add to ice tea and was never asked for a refill. Sorry but there is never any excuse for warm food. Won't be going back for a while. Sorry Zingermanns.

Great service, nice staff, excellent food... but at least for dining don't forget to make a reservation!

Laura is hands down one of the greatest individuals working in the service industry. Attentive but not intrusive, kind but not over the top, knowledgable and friendly. Thank you Laura (and Justin for being 1 of the 5 hosts at the door to actually greet and seat us in a timely fashion)!!!
Another great meal
The whole family celebrated a birthday brunch at the Roadhouse. As usual, the food was great as was the service. We love visiting any chance we get. Thank you!
Great Comfort Food!
Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat out. Zingerman's Roadhouse does not disappoint! Menu is varied so you can lean towards breakfast or lunch. Dining companions had the Santa Fe Mac and Cheese and Huevos Rancheros while I had the Roadhouse Omelet. All were great! We shared a pastry basket and the fresh doughnuts are the best! Service is always exceptional!
Hit or Miss
We had out-of-town visitors and the right thing to do in AA is to bring them here. However, the service and the food were disappointing. The server forgot our appetizer and did not bring us any bread until we reminded him during our entree. After all, this place is famous for it's delicious bread. The food as just mediocre and over priced. I don't mind paying above average for the food but I would expect the food to be above average and it was not.
Over priced but popular
Not many vegetarian options. My Mac N Eggs came with bacon bits on top which was not listed on the menu. The food is very over priced but a lot of people tend to like this place
This is a simply wonderfuL restaurant. The food is always very tasty & creative. Service is top-notch!
As always, Zingerman's did not disappoint.

Our server, Frances, was charming, knowledgeable and attentive to all of our needs. The food, from appetizer through to dessert, was delicious: an over cooked burger, probably a result of my own mumbling when we ordered, was quickly replaced without question or judgement. A wonderful mid-week treat!
I like the atmosphere of The Roadhouse, but it still has a Bill Knapp's feel, but then one has to be old enough to remember Bill Knapp's. As with all Zingerman's food, I feel it is average and overated. A lot of the meals are basic and many people could make them at home and they may even taste better.
Enjoyable time at the Zingerman's Roadhouse
We are so glad we went to Zingermans. The atomosphere and people were fantastic. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation ahead of time so you do not have to wait.
Creative and delicious breakfast and brunch
Zingerman's Roadhouse is fast becoming a favorite for breakfast and brunch. Last week I had the red pepper/Caramelized onion quiche. It was delicious and different, the crust being very thin and light. This week I had a half order of the eggs Benedict. I'm very picky about how eggs are done, and this was perfect. I love that they have half orders. Service is wonderful as well.
Excellent as Usual!
Its always a pleasure to treat ourselves to the Roadhouse for a meal. Their sweet potato fries are a meal all on their own and reheat nicely for the next day (our server also knew to include the spicy aioli sauce with my leftovers which is awesome!). I tried the blue plate for the first time (BBQ) and thought it was a really good and very reasonably priced. The husband got lamb while the kiddo got the fried cod dinner. Everybody loved their food. Zingermans does not disappoint!

The room was very loud so it was difficult to have a conversation. Service was slow and the waiter was knowledgeable but did not check in on us very often. Food was outstanding as usual .

I go to the Roadhouse frequently because of the three key ingredients, in my opinion, of a successful restaurant; great food, great service and great ambience. I've recommend it to many friends and I always like taking out of town guests there, especially the artists I work with. Just the other day I had The Kruger Brothers as my guests at the restaurant for an afternoon lunch/meeting.
Every time I come to MI I stop here. It's loud and very busy which can be stressful, especially with kids. RESERVATIONS are a must! I absolutely adore the chili....plus they're really great with my celiac.
This place is amazing!
The staff seemed genuinely concerned about our satisfaction with the entire experience. The food is always amazing. The worse part about this place is having to decide which delicious item you will be eating. Loved it!

Delicious food, excellent service
Delicious lunch, had the ancho beef chili and it is phenomenal, a comparatively excellent deal ($8.50 for a very large bowl). All tables served with complementary Zingerman's bread, which is a must-try if visiting Ann Arbor. Service was pleasant, attentive, and our server was well-informed on menu items and made great recommendations. General menu is very expensive for most items and thus is a place best typically for special occasions only (if looking for cheaper Zingerman's options, try the Deli, although those prices are high too).
Zingerman's is consistent, delicious, fun, friendly, and never disappoints. I eat here multiple times a week - it is my go to place to meet friends and for business lunches and breakfasts.

Always an excellent meal. Isla and Kayla were excellent Zingerman's representatives and helped us discover even more to love on the menu.
We had a great experience. Very good food and service.
Nothing too Special
Server was attentive, bar was a little slow, but it was a Saturday dinner. Different menu choices and seasonal offerings that I was impressed with. Warm mushroom and spinach salad was good and the goat cheese in it was mild and wonderful. The tenderloin was good, lived up to it's name, very tender and prepared as I had requested. Everything is very smoke house flavored which wasn't a surprise. Rest of the food and sides where typical tasting for the most part, mashed potatoes were nothing special, tasted like what I can make at home. I have had better greens at other bbq places. Food on the whole was good, but nothing real spectacular. Just seems there is a lot of hype about Zingerman's and it just wasn't what I was expecting.
Great food, amazing service
I went here for dinner with my mom on Friday. Our waitress was absolutely superb. I had ordered a glass of wine for my mom before she arrived because she was having difficulty finding the right highway exit to take. The waitress made a recommendation based on what I said I'd like, and she also said that if the wine wasn't what we wanted, she would bring a replacement. The food was fantastic, as always. I worked at Zingerman's warehouse as a part time college job, and I know their food is delicious. The only downside was that we were seated kiddie corner from a table with a crying toddler, but I think that's to be expected in the early evening.
Good but expensive
It was nice to have a variety to choose from on the menu, and the food was really good. To top it off, they brought a delicious sundae for my husband's birthday as a surprise! However, it just seemed steep and expensive. I get you pay for the farm-to-table experience, but in terms of bbq, I would much rather choose the Union Woodshop where the food is much better and much more affordable. Glad we gave it a try, but probably won't be back.
Zingerman's Roadhouse Did Not Disappoint!!👍
Our family was celebrating three family birthdays. We had a great brunch and everyone ordered their favorites off of the menu. Service was terrific and the birthday donut sundaes were delicious. 🎂 Thanks!
