The ribs are always very tasty. We had the dry aged bison chop and it was delicious as well. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Good food, slow service
I dined with 3 colleagues. The food was very good, and the deviled eggs were excellent. However, the service was painfully slow. We arrived and were seated at 12:15, but our lunches were not served until 12:50. Our server disappeared for several extended periods of time, we had to ask her to replace our silverware that was taken away with the appetizers, and I had to flag down another waitress to get the check so I could get to the airport on time for my flight.
We have been there many times and will go back. The food is always good.

Had a great time celebrating a fun night at Z Grille. We sat in one of their same side booths that faces towards the dining room overlooking the streets of downtown. We had their spicy shrimp lettuce rolls (so yummy!), California deviled eggs, duck potstickers for apps and their scallops for entree. Our server was so helpful and nice. A great place to get your night started!

Food was inventive and delicious. Wonderful for healthy but tasty options. Very good limited wine list with diverse and intriguing options
Unique menu, ambiance and very reasonable. Food was flavorful and healthy!
A Salt Bomb
We had the Charcuterie and Cheese as our first course and it was OUTSTANDING. Great composition, unique selections and a solid value. Spot on service and nice wine recommendation with that course. I had the duck with black rice risotto and I believe whoever seasoned this dish lost control of the Kosher Salt box and it dumped on to my plate. I understand that can happen. What happened next is inexcusable. The server warily returned the dish to the kitchen and I could clearly see that Chef Zack and team were not in any mood for any feedback. A simple tasting of the rice on the line would have revealed that it was salted beyond belief. The dish was returned to me with a SEVEN DOLLAR UPCHARGE FOR A NEW VEGETABLE. In addition, two slices of the duck were inedible as they were full of sinew. NO ONE at the restaurant wanted to approach Zack out of fear of his temper. I've been in this business for 30 years. The ZGrille will not be in business for long if the kitchen does not listen to the service staff.
The service, by Brittany, was excellent. She answered all our questions about the menu with a lively description of the ingredients used in the meals. Nice twist on devil eggs - we had dill and avocado. Was not a fan of their hamburger but the fries were unbelievable delicious. The location is good, we enjoyed dinner before a show and had a short walk after the meal. We'll definitely go back to try a few more menu items.
Superb food and service. Fairly limited wine list, so brought several bottles of good wine knowing their limited selection. Was stunned to find that the corkage fee was $30 ... a bit absurd in the Tampa Bay market, especially with such limited wine list selections. I knew they had a corkage policy, but doubling from $15 to $30 is an invitation for some people to stay away. A shame with the great work the kitchen is doing!

The food was outstanding, especially the scallops. Also enjoyed the deviled eggs and the chocolate creme brulee. My only negative was the noise level. Very loud, probably due to some larger parties. We went for our anniversary (our first time there) and would definitely return.
I chose this rest. because it made the top 52 list in Tampa Bay. My steak was not properly cooked and the server took the whole meal to fix it then it came back as a hockey puck. In addition, my daughter had finished her lunch before mine came out and we did not even get to eat lunch together.
Z Grill Definately Worth a Visit
Have been looking forward to dining at Z Grill for quite a while. So, along with two friends, we made a Tuesday evening reservation on Open Table. Of course, the famous deviled eggs are very good but so are other appetizers, so don't "skimp." I had the Indian style scallop entree, which was delicious and my husband and our dining partners enjoyed their entrees as well. For dessert, we had a crumble cake with ice cream served very hot. It also was very good. Our server was attentive and perky, which we enjoyed. Overall, the food is well above average but expensive, so be prepared for digging deeper in your pockets. Regarding the noise level, it was OK until a larger party came who were obviously having a very loud time, so beware here also. Z Grill is not large so noise can be a problem. Now onto a technical problem that happened. When we left the restaurant, I received a text message that our 7 pm reservation had been cancelled, which was strange since we had just finished eating at 9 pm. It seems that a hostess made a mistake & inadvertently cancelled our reservation when another one should have been deleted. It took Jennifer, Z Grill's co-owner, to solve the problem of how we could receive our Open Table points, which she did do. Thank you, Jennifer!
Interesting menu, Dr. Pepper ribs were delicious.
Loved the various unexpected pairings. Very disappointed I could not taste the sage crusted fried chicken and waffles- taken off the menu entirely.
The Dr. Pepper ribs are life changing!
Small place with wonderful menu choices. Loved the skateboard decor, especially the "Final Fiesta" Last Supper as interpreted via the WWF! Interesting cocktail choices, loved my "new-old fashioned". We split the ribs & Lamburger. YUM!
Decor was sterile. Over priced for the quality of Service and quality. Just adequate.
Ate dinner at 4 restaurants while staying at Vinoy in St Pete. Z Grille was excellent on all fronts. Would definitely go back.
Pretentious & overrated
We went for a particular item that was no longer on the menu as an entree. My flavorless short ribs in a bowl layered with everything else could have come from a crock-pot.
Although the chef refused to slightly alter a brunch special (according to our server) we still enjoyed what we ordered and the service.
Burgers were great . Drinks were excellent. Valet parking made it easy to get to. We will be back.
It's our second time to Z Grille, and our second time where the specials had run out after we ordered. That's odd. This time , the special fish and special dessert were out, or "just ran out". The waitress was excellent, and she handled the situation well. The noise level is just about off the charts, but for Saturday night, not too unusual. I can't get over the feeling of being underwhelmed by the food. I had the "chicken" special, which had something to do with chicken atop a tamale, all piled up in a bowl. Sorry, I didn't get it. It wasn't bad, but certainly not memorable in any way. I kept biting into soft bits at the bottom of the bowl that I still have no idea what they were. We had a nice bottle of white wine, reasonably priced.
The head chef here is doing some pretty interesting things with his food. However, this restaurant still can't seem to figure out what it wants to "be." The loud atmosphere, skateboards on the walls, hard (somewhat uncomfortable) plastic chairs and the metal tables hint at a new american/hipster theme. However, the price point ($25-$35 for entrees) is well above that demographic. We started with cocktails, which were both strong and tasty, if slightly uninspired. The duck confit potsticker appetizer was quite good. My SO was less than thrilled with the duck entree, stating that the forbidden rice risotto had so much spice as to overpower the duck. I enjoyed the catch of the day, red snapper, but it may not have been worth the price point. Generally, the food was good and the atmosphere was fun. The service was definitely lacking, not bad, but not overly attentive either. This would be a great place for dinner with friends, or even family.
Spectacular! A must while in St. Pete
A perfect dining experience! We all were visiting in St. Pete and it is truly a gem of the city. If you are in St. Pete and seeking a fantastic meal, dine at the Z Grille. The duck, shrimp, red snapper, and burgers were all perfect! Excellent drink selection too, and impeccable service. A fine dining experience without the stuffiness of suits+ties. We will return on our next trip to St. Pete.
Avoid the blue plate 'special'
The blue plate special looked great on the menu. The appetizer was a tasty little roll, the glass of wine was really delicious. The good news ends there. The entry was the tiniest quantity of food. Maybe 3 ounces of fish. Comments to the waitress about the snapper actual being a guppy did not help. I walked to Ceviche to have a couple of tapas plates as I was still quite hungry. My dinner companion visiting from NH was happy with the short ribs. I am local and will not return nor recommend to visitors. I'd have been embarrassed if my friend had ended up with the meal I received.

Great dinner again at Z Grille
Took a friend Saturday evening to one of our favorite St. Petersburg restaurants...Z Grille. Food is consistently good and interesting. Dr. Pepper ribs are always delicious and everyone we've introduced to them...agree they're terrific. Our server, Josh was helpful and appreciate his knowledge about new items on the menu. We also tried cheese plate and enjoyed the variety & different offerings.
We were very happy with the service and freshness of the food. The specials were great and the crispy mushrooms were out of this world. Great find. Will return soon.
Not what we expected
This was our first time at the Z Grille, and choose it because of the favorable reviews. The plan was to have a nice dinner before the Symphony event . Our first impression was the restaurant has a cold feel, I could see it as a good place for week day business lunches. The tables were metal with no cloth and the chairs looked like plastic patio chairs. The bar was vibrant but the alcohol choice was VERY limited. When we were seated for dinner the crowd picked up and the restaurant became extremely loud and we couldn't hear each other talk. The chairs were uncomfortable and the food was mediocre. With so many excellent restaurants around with relaxed atmosphere and excellent food we don't think we'll go back to the Z Grille.

I had the braised rib and it was awesome. Great decor. Service was fantastic.
Great tasting food-young energetic crowd--noisy
modern high energy young restaurant with loud noise -great food-good value-difficult to carry on a conversation
Best meal / night we've had since we moved to Tampa Bay area last June. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
We very much enjoyed our dining experience. It's always a pleasure to dine out and have good food, good wine, good service and not be in a chain restaurant. Cheese board is not to be missed. One thing to be aware of, the menu on the website is old, and food and prices inaccurate.
I reserved a table for 4 at the noon hour. Our server was fantastic. The appetizer and our meals were absolutely delicious. We will be back.
Very good; not sure if it is great for lunch
Lots of good reviews for Z Grille. However, I found the lunch menu less than a "wow" factor and more like a "this look OK." Food was good but the service was lacking what I would expect for such a restaurant. Inattentive is the major problem. Worth a visit and next time we'll try it for dinner.
