About Wolfgang's Steak House - 54th Street
With 4 decades of experience, Wolfgang Zwiener didn't duplicate an exceptional steakhouse, he improved on it to make Wolfgang's Steakhouse exceptional. The porterhouse steak for one, two, four or more, is an outstanding choice. The atmosphere, expanded menu & professional service will appeal to even the most exacting diners. Wolfgang's is pleased to add this location in the heart of Midtown East.

Wolfgang's Steak House - 54th Street Ratings and Reviews
Steak and Seafood Delight
The steak and seafood at this restaurant was outstanding. The porterhouses were cooked perfectly the way we desired. Great spot.
Amazing staff. Always great service and food.
I love Wolfgang's on 54th Street. This was about by 6 visit in the last 4 years. The staff at this location is always nice. I was on a date and they asked if they cold put my flowers in water. The people, the food, the ambiance is always perfect at this location.

Waiter never asked how our dinner was. Do not order the lamb chops!! Grizzly and poor quality. Very disappointed with my dining experience at Wolfgang's Steak House.

Always a pleasure
Probably come here once a month or every other month. Consistency is key, and Wolfgang delivers every time! See you next month!

Extremely disappointed. Flavorless and overcooked food. The room was way too warm and the service was cold and uninviting.

Top notch porterhouse, comparable to Luger's. German potatoes and creamed spinach are excellent sides. Good for big groups.
Had a great time at Wolfgang's. The food was outstanding. Given the reputation, marketing and price, that was to be expected. Anything less would've been unacceptable and Wolfgang's more than met expectations. What's always an unknown is service. Again, Wolfgang's exceeded expectations. We never wanted for service and the entire staff was unfailingly polite; from the hostess, to the coat-check lady and, of course, the wait staff.
Okay but not that special
This was our first time at this restaurant. We stopped here while we were in town on vacation. My husband and I are steak connoisseurs and have been to many high end steakhouses. The special draw or feature of this restaurant is the porterhouse. We ordered the porterhouse for two as well as the creamed spinach. Neither one was terribly exciting. The spinach was too salty and the steak was ok. The temperature of the steak was correct but there was nothing special about the taste. I personally love a dry aged steak cooked med-rare. This was cooked correctly but the flavor just wasn't there. I won't be going back. There are too many other better choices.

Food was great
The best crab cakes in the world!!!! Very attentive service, steak that was just right beyond words and desert that was so delicious I threw my diet in the river.
Very tasty steaks
Went on the recommendation of a friend. There wasn't an extensive selection of steaks but all you needed was there-Ribeye, NY Strip and Porterhouse. The Porterhouse for two was cooked perfectly, not over greasy as in many other steak places, sides were tasty and the caesar salad perfect. The wine steward knew his stuff and the selection of wine was pretty good, with prices that were appropriate. Our Stags Leap was outstanding so I guess they take care of their older wines. I'd definitely recommend it. If it were my restaurant however I'd give it a "make over"
Great for steak lovers
I have been to many steak houses in the area. With that being said, I ordered the Porterhouse for 2 people done medium rare. I almost always order a rib eye. It was delicious, and I did not need any type of sauce. However, it was not the best steak I have ever had- but I usually ordered a rib eye, so I cannot compare the two cuts with other steak houses. I also ordered the sauteed mushrooms, and I have to sincerely say that they were the best sauteed mushrooms I have ever had at a steak house before. In fact, I polished almost all of them off and there were quite a few.

Surprisingly quiet for a Tuesday lunch. We stayed for a long time and were able to discuss a few things. They do not take online booking for party larger then four but you can call after the booking to upsize the reservation. Food is top notch. That Canadian Bacon is a must have though your doctor does not like it. Not only the porterhouse and other steaks are excellent, the lobster and the jumbo shrimp are also top notch. The deserts are rather average but you do not go there for the desert menu. The Merlot picked by my associate was also good.
Great gor Lunch!
The lunch menu is a great value for the quality of the food. HIGHLY recommended. Thr service is slso top quality.

Omg!! I have never tasted creamed spinach that was so light and fluffy and delicious! While eating it i actually said it was heaven. Everything delicious would highly recommend.
The best in Midtown East. Never a bad meal here whether your sitting at the bar or in the main dining room the service and food is LIGHTS OUT!
A great dinner
We enjoyed a great dinner there. My husband had steak and had Chilean sea bass. Everything was prepared to perfection. The dessert was fabulous.
Not up to expectations
First time to any of these establishments, being very familiar with Peter Luger. Asked for glasses of wine and were offered generic types/ no country or detail and did not have Chianti. No tasting...just like its juice. I would classify overall as a very sad copy. From the bread which was all too pedestrian vs the varied interesting and flavorful rolls of PL, to the Porterhouse for two/ steak which grew cold quickly (and for 2 was missing a good side of slices which I have never seen at Lugers). There was not the crust of Lugers, and the steak sauce is not as good. The cheap plastic bottles vs glass they have them in actually poured out onto my plate creating an unwanted soup of sauce. We had the classic German potatoes which were good and the creamed spinach which was Meh. Again, all grew cold too fast. In need of a napkin we could not flag down a waiter for the life of us mid meal, they actually seemed to be averting their eyes. Dessert was a hot fudge sundae but again, should be over the top and this was just boringly average if less than that. Did not ask what flavors we want so we got vanilla. Its all vanilla. Even the decor. For someone from out of town, its likely an experience but compared to the best steakhouses around, disappointing. And for the price, just lazy IMHO. They copy it all down to the plates, but they cant copy the service, atmosphere or the standards. And its sad b/c this spot is close to my apartment vs the schlep to brooklyn and the difficulty getting reservations. I wish my review were different.
Nothing wrong with it
The food was fine, but the place has no buzz - at least not on a Saturday night - maybe because we were the only non-tourists. Too many other excellent steakhouses in the area.
Come Hungry, Leave Stuffed
Get the Porterhouse - all the rest is irrelevant. Our family made its annual holiday visit to NYC, and we continued our tradition of having Christmas Day dinner at a steakhouse. This year we dined at Wolfgang's for the first time. Having been to Peter Luger's a number of times, I was looking forward to the comparison. Typical upscale steakhouse décor - which is not a bad thing. Wait-staff was very busy, but professional and courteous (no faux gruffness or attitude). The wine list was decent for a steakhouse . We started with crabcakes, a shrimp cocktail, and the classic tomato and onion (with a side of slab bacon). All were tasty and the bacon was exceptional - a thick smoky slab with a touch of sweetness. The steak sauce (for the tomatoes and onions) was good, but not quite up to Luger's standards (I think the anchovy in the Luger's sauce makes the difference). For mains, my wife and son each ordered the whole lobster, while my daughter and I shared the Porterhouse for 2. We could have easily fed another 2-3 people with our order - the lobsters were huge, perhaps 3 pounds each and the porterhouse seemed never-ending. The meat was perfectly medium-rare and swimming in its juices (and I am sure some butter). Each bite was wonderful, with the filet portion, practically melting in your mouth. We ended up taking home half of the porterhouse and a good portion of the lobster, as well as what was left of our side of German potatoes. For reasons that escape me (food coma?) we also ordered desserts - ice cream for 3 and an order of fruit for 1. While I can't award the steak or the lobster my personal "best", both were great. Also great (as in large) was the check - the lobster were "market priced", which turned out to be $75 per lobster. All in our check exceeded $150 per person, including wine. I think one would be hard-pressed to spend less than $100 per person for apps and mains. I am glad to have given Wolfgang's a try and would return at some point.
Chewy porterhouse for two
The drinks were excellent and the service was good. However, the porterhouse for two was not tender. The filet part was good but the rest was chewy. This is something we often order for a special occasion at steakhouses and we felt that the quality of meat was not up to Wolfgang's fine reputation.

I had nice steak dinner with my husband on Christmas after watching the show at the Radio City. Good location, not on the crowded main streets, good service and tasty food :D
Christmas Eve 25 year Engagement Anniversary
The evening was perfect. We were seated at a table for 4 in a lovely corner so romantic! The porterhouse steak for 2 was delious and prepared exact to our specifications. The Cesar salad and the side mushrooms were heaven! My husband can be very picky when it comes to his steak, since he was a butcher , and I was thrilled that he loved the porterhouse steak and did not send it back as he has done at other steakhouses. Visar our waiter served us beautifully making for a very enjoyable , lovely dining experience
No what we expected for a $700 tab. Service was slow and Steaks were over cooked. We exp we expected more.

Great food and service. In for a holiday trip and the Porterhouse for two does not disappoint.
Waited for 1 hour for table with a reservation. Rude manage said " you should expect to wait an hour for a table with a reservation at any fine restaurant in NYC during Christmas week. Waiter informs us half way thru dinner that his shift is over and someone else will be serving us. Avoid this establishment.

The food was not good at all. The steak we had was terrible. I had a drink at the bar beforehand and that would be the only reason I would go back. Just for a drink. Seems like a better place for large groups. Service was great though. Can't blame the food on the servers. I was very disappointed because the restaurant came highly recommended.

Awesome as Expected
I'm a huge fan of Wolfgang's and this visit didn't disappoint. The steak was top notch as usual and the service was great. One of the people in our party accidentally poured too much steak sauce on their plate. The staff rushed in, without being asked, and moved the steak and sides to a fresh plate to ensure they got a quality meal. I can't wait to go again!
Excellent steak, everything else is just ok
Steak was super. Rolls and bread weak. Creamed spinach just ok. German potatoes were just fine, as were the mozzarella and tomatoes and other salads. No ambience and borderline rude service. Much nicer steakhouses in NYC for the same expensive dinner.
Always outstanding food!!
