Vinny Vanucchi's 'Little Italy' - Galena Ratings and Reviews
Vinny's is a beautiful restaurant with great ambience. The food was a little bland for my tastes, but on my next visit I will ask for more garlic!
Love this place. We come here every time we go to Galena! Great food, great service and great wine list!!
Excellent Food--Excellent Service
Our server our favorite part of the meal. She was attentive and respectful of our desires. The food was excellent. We ate simply: spaghetti and fettuccine alfredo. Both were excellent and flavorful. The wines were phenomenal. Our server recommended a Goosebump(sp?) red wine, which was awesome. He likes red wine, I don't, but I loved it! Would have bought a whole case if I could have. The bruschetta was completely different than any other I have ordered and well worth every penny and calorie. We will definitely be back on our next trip.
Wish it was 10 years ago again!
I was here 10 years ago and couldn't wait to come back. Very disappointing! Food wasn't the same quality at all. Red gravy had no taste at all. Calamari was rubbery. The only thing we enjoyed was the garlic bread.
Excellent as always!
Excellent as always!
Amazing food and very quiet!
Loved the food and would go back in a heartbeat! Very pretty inside... would accommodate anyone!
Very Special Place
Such a romantic place! The bruschetta is absolutely delightful, and the eggplant parmasan was just as amazing. My sweetie's veal was gobbled up with none left!
We went to Galena for the wine fest weekend. Saw Vinny's on trip advisor and the menu looked fantastic. The bruschetta was wonderful, but the marinara was bland and so was the eggplant parmesan. It was soggy and without taste. How can an Italian restaurant have bland food ?
Great Italian Restaurant
Vinny Vanucchi's Little Italy is a wonderful dining experience for 2 or for 12! Great atmosphere; pleasant hospitality; and delicious Italian food! Whenever we visit Galena, we make sure to eat at least one meal at Vinny Vanucchi's!!!
We go to Galena twice a year and always eat at Vinny Venucci's Little Italy!! The bread is to die for, and the salad dressing should be on everyone's shelf. Everything on the menu is delicious and we have never been disappointed. Love the ambiance and the fact that the restaurant itself has so many different rooms and levels .
Poor pairing of flavors.
Fettuccine Alfredo with Sausage. The sausage was way too hot and spicy for the Alfredo sauce which is the flavor that should have dominated. A mild Italian sausage would have been more appropriate and enjoyable. My husband had a baked seafood dish which he enjoyed very much.
On a windy February Thursday, we headed to Vinny's for an early dinner. Our waiter, Jeffrey, was friendly and efficient. We love Vinny's--red-checked table cloths, candles on the tables, good background music, delicious food options. We enjoyed the linguini with oil and garlic served with salad and garlic bread. We'll be back!
Our table was ready when we arrived
It was Valentine's Day and we were celebrating our anniversary too! Had a window table and the food was amazing.
My wife's birthday is on Valentine's day so we try to do something extra special and 'Vinny's' fits the bill!

My husband and I came to Vanicchis for a second time to celebrate Vday after we had a magical time there around Xmas time. We got the same exact table we did first visit. But after our server treated us differently, waiting for things, endless chit chatting with excuses why we didn't receive service ended us with disappointment. We even got different treatment between my husband and I. Ex. I got a small glass of soda no straw after asking a couple of times and husband getting the appropriate glass to serve soda with straw in right away. We literally waited 20 minutes for our check. Not sure if we will be back due to service next time we visit Galena. Shame.

Garlic bread was awesome. It seems to be drenched in oil, but it is so airy and crisp. Husband had steak- cooked perfect but NO seasoning- disappointed with that. I had shrimp. They were sooo good - Parmesan coating, huge, and so tender they fell apart in your mouth. Seasoned veggies cooked great but a bit too sweet for my pallet - sweet basil and rosemary. Our waitress was great. Very attentive. Atmosphere good. I don't like checking in on second floor, then having to go back outside to go to level 3 to check in again and be seated. It should be done on same level. Will definitely try this place again.
We come here when visiting Galena and the food and service are always good.
We ate there for our 38th wedding anniversary and was very happy with the wonderful food. We got the Valentine's Special four course meal, which was a little pricey but so worth it. Everything was hot, fresh, and tasty.
Va Va Va Vinny's!
The "wictionary" defines the phrase va va voom as, (slang) Expressing that something is lively, sexy, passionate, and/or exciting. This is exactly what our dining experience was at Vinny Vannucchi's on February 12th. I made the reservation on Open Table and requested a private table on the third floor near a window or the fireplace. We arrived for dinner at 5:30 and were seated immediately on the third floor close to both the fireplace and the window. We must have beat the out of town crowd because we were the only ones in the room! The room is warm and inviting with old Italian photographs and twinkling lights woven through grapevines. We were served water and waited upon within about five minutes, by a very nice college-aged man. I couldn't decide what to order, so I asked for a suggestion. He recommended that I try Auntie Gracie's Sausage Ragu ($17.95), which is described on the menu as, Penne Pasta, Spicy Italian Sausage, Peppers and Mushrooms in our Marinara Sauce with a touch of Parmesan Cream and baked with Mozzarella Cheese. It was very good, and came in a small casserole dish hot from the oven. The sausage was well seasoned and the cheese on top was plentiful. The sauce was sweet, but a bit runny. My husband always orders the lasagne, which is delicious, with a sweet sauce. They serve a large salad to share, which is an antipasta style, and garlic bread that is doused in olio (garlic in oil) and topped with dry parmesan cheese. The bread was good, but not quite as good as I remembered it to be since our last visit. A little dryer and colder. We had a lively waiter who did a great job keeping our beverages filled. It was very romantic for the most part, until the dinner crowd began to come in and the conversation level was a little louder. All in all, it is one of our favorite restaurants in Galena and we will be back during every visit we make to this beautiful and historic town.
A traditional romantic go too
Food has become bland through the years and lost a little of its italian old school taste. The restaurant is lovely and updated through the years, but still has kept its traditional Italy look. The service has lost its special touch of offering ground pepper or cheese etc. This was not offered by any servers on the evening we were there and servers are no different in knowledge of wines and food than a chain restaurant. Good , but not the special place any longer.
Galena Hot Spot
Loved everything about it except the noise level. The food was fantastic as was the service.
Very romantic place to eat with great Italian selection. Everything we had was perfect.
Very good will be back
Will go back very good server was good food was great
So happy we chose this restaurant on 1/1/16!
We showed up an hour early for our reservation, but we were still seated right away! This multi-level restaurant has a great ambiance and very accommodating wait staff. The food was delicious and reasonably priced: We had salad, garlic bread, Italian wedding soup, fried ravioli, Chicken fettuccini Alfredo (added extra parm cheese) and Chicken Milanese...with lemonade was only $60 for 2 people. We didn't try any cocktails or wine but they had a variety to choose from. Definitely going back!

We love Vinny's and make it our "welcome to the New Year" every December 31st with family and friends! This year the waitstaff was outstanding! Our table was ready when we arrived and the whole experience was just perfect. I was even able to have a dish that is only sometimes on the menu for New Year's - thank you chef for the eggplant Parmesan.
We have been going to Vinny Vanucchi's for many years and are never disappointed. Our dinners are always well prepared and served hot. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Be sure to order their tiramisu, it is the best!
Nobody acknowledged it was our anniversary. Very disappointing especially since it was a special occasion and we do not go out often. I called three weeks before and asked the price of the four course meal. I was told it would not be over $25. When we arrived we were told it was $40 per person. We had a budget so needless to say we did not order the four course.

Has really changed
We had been coming here for about 10 years off and on. Our last visit was Saturday , Nov. 28th. We sat in the bistro, not nearly the charm of the other rooms of the establishment . Waitress was very friendly and checked on us often. The food on the other hand, was not very good. The garlic bread was over cooked, the calamari was over cooked, the salad had barley any dressing, which is a shame because they are known for their garlic bread and salad. I ordered the shrimp scampi, so gross, it was as if they took chopped garlic and oil and laid defrosted shrimp on top. It had no flavor what so ever! Very disappointed in our dinner! Won't be back anytime soon. It's a shame they have gone down hill.
Not the same as it used to be
I've been going there once or twice a year for the last 15 years or so and it just seems like it going downhill. Food was just ok. Service was horrendous. I specified that we were celebrating a 40th birthday on open table and requested a table on the second floor by the windows. The host acknowledged both of those things when we arrived and sat us as requested but the birthday was forgotten. We ordered an appetizer, entrees and dessert and I think that this was the only few times our server was at our table. My entree was a seafood alfredo which was supposed to include fresh crab and I had to look very hard to find any. I did find two small pieces. My girlfriend's food was just ok. The ambiance as always is a quaint, romantic setting. Whenever I make a trip to Galena, I make it a point to have dinner or lunch at Vinny's. I think I'll be trying some of the many other restaurants in the area from now on.

We asked for a quiet table. They put us in a private little room with only 2 tables. The ambiance was outstanding. We couldn't have asked for a better evening out with friends. The delicious food and energetic staff ensured a return visit from us.
Busy hot spot
My s.o. and I dined here as part of his 50th birthday celebration. We were put on the upper floor between two large parties. The noise level was such the we couldn't have a conversation between us. Our waitress appeared flustered but eventually got all components of our dinner on the table at the same time. The gentleman taking care of the large parties however was very competent and confident in escorting one party out, having the table stripped, cleaned and re-set with the new party seated, with drinks AND their food order before we'd finished our main course! I had the chicken compamare, and my s.o. the meatballs followed by chicken parmigiano. The hot food came hot, very tasty, and almost a struggle to finish, the shared salad and garlic bread well presented and also tasty. I definitely recommend this restaurant just not for a quiet romantic evening.

Great experience as always! Had a couples weekend in Galena for Halloween and had an awesome dinner at Vinny Vanuchis! They were able to accommodate our request of being next to a window that looked into Main Street. We will definitely be back again!

They have the best garlic bread and salad ever! I just wish they served dinner earlier than 5pm.
What a truly great dinner we had. The atmosphere was great and the staff dressed up for Halloween. It was fun and electric. Great time. Food was awesome.

Vinny's has been, and remains one of my favorite restaurant for many years. Since they are 100 + miles from home it sometimes too long between visits. We had read a poor review if Vinny's and were wondering if things were not as good as remembered. But no fear, dinner, the service, wine selection, everything was great.
True Italian Food
We loved this restaurant. We had chicken parmesan and it was cooked the old fashioned way. Big portions, and delicious. I love "real" italian food this fit the bill.
Trip to Galenna
Service was incredibly slow. Food was ok for the price. We visit Galenna once a year and have eaten here many times. This will probably be the last as service is always slow
