Valentino has staying power! It has been around since the 1970's and keeps upgrading ambiance and menu, plus an incredible wine list. The Selvaggio brothers are doing a great job.

Great old school Italian dining experience. They treat you like an old friend, very welcoming . The food was exceptional along with Paul our waiter who gave us absolutely impeccable service and was very knowledgeable with the extensive wine list & menu. My compliments to the chef and all the wait staff who remembered our names upon leaving and came out to wish us well.
First time dining at Valentino's. The food and service was service was very good. I ordered the scallops and they were delicious.
Wine List Problem
Basic decent high end restaurant. Food above average. Nice specials. Impressive wine list size, BUT every bottle I requested was out of stock so while it's great to have a huge list, if it isn't in the cellar, it's just an intellectual exercise. Also, no help offered either by waiter or Sommelier (don't even know if one was present). That was disappointing.
My husband and I have been using some Gilt City deals to come to Valentino for special Date Nights. We always enjoy the food; especially the sushi/sashimi starters. It is always a nice menu and the service has always been outstanding. Highly recommend

It is a beautiful elegant place. The service is excellent and the food was exquisite.
The "Artisanal SPAGHETTI Al Cipollotto-- With Pancetta And Blue Buffalo Cheese" was outstanding. Would come here again for the same dish.

Still good after all these years
I remember going to Valentino's more than 30 years ago, and I have very pleasant memories, so when I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a romantic place, and avoid those noisy, high-energy restaurants where you have to shout to be understood, I thought of Valentino's. Booked it on Open Table, which also gave me the option of getting some roses delivered to the table. Worth the price of admission! I also requested a quiet table, and we were seated at a corner table, which was perfect. All the staff were personable and professional--no sullen teenagers. My wife ordered veal picatta, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had my favorite: osso buco, which was also excellent. It was surrounded by a cheesy risotto--delicious. I almost never order that dish because it's so seldom done properly. It came with a small fork to scoop out the marrow--the best part--which was ineffective, so I simply used to stem of the fork instead. We finished the meal with a very creamy and tasty ice cream, which was decorated with a candle and "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. The wine list is one of the best, and there was a good selection of wines by the glass. I ordered two different Italian Reds, both of which were excellent. This is not an everyday restaurant, unless you have lots of money, but for a special occasion, it's hard to beat.
Great Italian Food
Valentinos is an old school Italian restaurant. The food is terrific and the service is top drawer. The ambiance is perfect. You can actually hear what others at the table are saying....something that is hard to find in many other restaurants these days. We had a great time. Everyone loved their order.

My welcome was "who are you here to pick up" I guess they don't serve too many patrons that look like me. We decided to stay since it was a late Valentines dinner and didn't have too many alternatives. Food was very good but service was terrible.
Best of the best, love Valentinos.
Valentinos is always wonderful, consistently. Never disappointed. Food is delicious. If it's not on the menu, the chef will prepare what you request. Always have our table, with our favorite waiter. This is like no other restaurant, a dining experience.
Still the best Italian meal in L.A.
Congrats to Giuseppe and the staff for a memorable Friday lunch with outstanding fish entrees! I t may be Lent but fish rules! Molto bene per tutti!
Instant favorite Italian restaurant
We ended up getting a 5 course fixed menu, and at first I was a little skeptical on the selections provided. But wow! Everything was delicious, the service was excellent. All in all, great restaurant.

The food was amazing! I couldn't decide on what to order so I had the four course dinner with the grilled squid with squid ink, duck lasagna, (I can't remember the name) veal, and their dessert of the day. It was a perfect balace of flavors and I loved it and my boyfriend loved the food too! Perfect place for an event or a special dinner.
Excellent Italian Restaurant
Valentino has excellent food and wine list. Some of the dishes are very hard to find in other Italian restaurant. A real gem.
Makes you think of Italy
The good and service are impeccable. They have the best wine list in town. Try the eggplant Parmesan, it is the best I have ever had. Not to be missed. It is our first choice for a romantic or special occasion dinner
I Never Write Reviews
I have heard about Valentino for YEARS and always wanted to go, but something was holding me back. Now, I know why. The food was bland. The waiter was not attentive what so ever. Even the $200 bottle of wine was not very good. I think it wasn't stored correctly. If you want good Italian, go to Angelini, Mozza, Locanda Veneta, Madeos, or even CPK. Or, maybe not CPK, but it is better than the meal I had here.
Still good but not as good as I remembered it overall. Food was better than the service. To be fair we decided to go at the last minute and had a table in the side room which had two large and noisy groups; however, there should be enough attention given to tables for two and three if they are seated in that room. I personally missed being seated in the original dining room area. Will probably try it again once more before saying adieu. Too many very good competitors now compared to decades ago to falter on service .
One of the Best Dinners, Ever
My husband and I went to Valentino because I wanted the White Truffle with pasta. He ordered the Veal Chop. Oh my goodness. My pasta was absolutely the best pasta dish I've ever had. Shavings of white truffles were abundant and delicious. And I'm a foodie snob from NY. My husband, who is more a a meat and potatoes guy, enjoyed the veal chop, served with arugula. Our waiter, Paul, was most accommodating. The entire evening was an experience. We will be back!
Great wine list, showing its age
The menu is pretty conventional, though the prices are reasonable. The best thing here is the wine list. The decor is aging as are most of the customers. It feels stodgy, like Matteos. Most annoying were the serving staff, who seemed in a hurry to take orders and clear food away. We asked for a quiet table and received one in the corner. But it was next to a private dining alcove that generated a lot of noise. Duh.
New Years Eve
I've eaten at Valentino's before for many special occasions and I figured it would be the perfect place to spend New Year's Eve. Although the ambiance was lovely the pri fixe meal was below par as was the matching wines. Our waiter seemed to have forgotten about us as the evening wore on. I will definitely go back but not for a "special" occasion.
New Year's dinner.
Enjoyed the Butter lettuce salad, with Valentino's special warm, bleu cheese dressing, spectacular. Followed by breast of chicken, and my husband, a petite filet mignon. Roasted potatoes, very tasty. Shared a molten chocolate dessert, (soufflé) with a pear sorbet. Always an exceptional dining experience. Have also enjoyed many lunches, with equally great food and service.

Perfect special occasion or impressive holiday event location. Food is outstanding.
Valentino is still great!
Valentino remains the paradigm of a kind of Old School Italian restaurant from days gone by. The Italian waiters with their lived-in attitude, the classic dishes, the classy maitre'd still played to perfection by the venerable Piero Selvaggio. The food here is excellent, with really fine ingredients prepared in a classic style. I started with the grilled octopus - tender and delicious with a squid ink pasta....then on to a special of the evening which was gnocchi with lobster and mussels....really good, and for my main I ordered the quail wrapped in pancetta....absolutely delicious, and highly recommended. The wine list here is superb and the experience was terrific. Highly recommended.

I'm a real food lover! when the food is good, the long process of waiting really didn't matter anymore! I love the beef carpaccio dish so much, as I'm writing a review now I'm craving for it again! the ambiance is good, couples talking, family gathering, it just makes u feel really cozy and happy to be around with. the server always explain their menu and special of the day well so you know what you want to order :) I love this place and I'll be back for more!
delicious and romantic
The place is fantastic. The food is delicious, the atmosphere romantic and the decor beautiful.
Wonderful Food-Poor Service
The two of us went to the restaurant last Monday night. We had a wonderful table in a small alcove. Our waiter unfortunately acted like we were wasting his time. He went through the specials so quickly it was very difficult to understand him. After we ordered we never saw him again except when he presented the check. No one asked if we liked our appetizers. No one asked if our food was cooked properly. The busboy was wonderful in bringing us our bread and making sure our water glasses were always full. The appetizers, including the burrata salad and a tomato soup were wonderful. The veal picatta was very good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It really was the perfunctory way that the waiter treated us that turned what could've been an amazing dinner into an experience we regret.

Always great help when choosing wine. The specials are always delicious.
I have enjoyed eating here, infrequently, for over forty years; last time mid-November. Always superb food, wine and service. I always encourage the captain to select not only our wines, but the dishes as well; everything on the menu is the very best of its type. Every meal has been a memorable occasion. Expect to pay for such an experience; this is as up-scale as it gets. No red-sauce spaghetti!
Poor food quality
Service was nice but that's about it. Food quality is way under expectation. Not a place to spend $250 for two for dinner. I have better options.
incredible food, amazing wine, old school charm
Paul Sherman is one of the most knowledgeable and delightful sommeliers I have ever met.
I arrived happy and excited, but I left very disappointed. The food was bland and completely forgettable. The waiter was condescending and not friendly.
One of the top Italian restaurants in L.A.
Cannot possibly give a higher recommendation. Love the fact that the food and wine are excellent, but also you can have a quiet corner and be able to hear yourself think.

We ordered 2 items from the specials crabmeat salad and gnocci and they were both excellent. The crab meat salad was refreshing and the gnocci was not your typical dish. It was made with semolina, porcinni mushroom ,& 1 more ingredient i can not recall, but served with super fresh shrimp in a seafood consomme. Loved the option of being able to order as an appetizer or entree. The server's recommendation for the wine was perfect! I had the Oso Bucco and my spouse had the lasagna with duck ragu. They were both excellent. The tiramisu with the sorbet was the perfect finishing touch to the evening.
mediocre food, high price
My wife and I went there on a Wed. night. The place was dim and quaint, but has a somewhat shabby look like it hasn't been updated in 40 years. The service was excellent, but the food was just OK. The bread was plain white bread, slightly stale with no olive oil or garlic/pepper to dip it in, just a tub of butter. We both had veal piccata, and some of our medallions were chewy or tough. We each had 1 martini, 1 appetizer we shared, the veal piccata, and no desert. With tip, the bill was $150.
Wonderful evening - Perfect
Our waiter - the ambiance - the friendliness and the food just couldn't have been netter. Thank you
