Welcome to Toloache (pronounced toh-lo-AH-tchay), chef-owner Julian Medina’s contemporary Mexican bistro located in the heart of the Theater District. Toloache is named after a flowering plant famed in Mexico for its use in love potions. We hope that when you dine with us you too will fall under the spell of chef Medina’s creative cooking, which incorporates seasonal and natural ingredients and more than a dozen types of chilies. Our festive, two-story space features a guacamole and ceviche bar, a wood-burning oven, and an exceptional tequila list, along with elegant decorative elements imported from Mexico. We looking forward to seeing you soon.

Toloache-Midtown Ratings and Reviews
at first I wanted to be annoyed that this location did not have the bottomless brunch I saw advertised, but it was only for the other location. After I figured out that one margarita pre-show was enough, I had the best huarache ever! the service was impeccable, as soon as my water glass was half empty- it was full! The atmosphere is really beautiful, i felt like I was in Mexico with all the decorative tiles and flowers. I will definately be going back!
We were shocked when the entree came out. It was tiny.
the food was amazing, I have never ate such good Mexican food. I was hesitant to go because I can usually cook my own Mexican food but this was off the chart. We had a small issu when we booked but the Maitre D took great care of us. Congratulation t the Chef, if there was a restaurant like this in my neighborhood I would eat there at least ounce a month. The next time I travel to New York I surely will eat there again.
Great food, prices a little high
I love the fish and shrimp tacos at Toloache! However, I found the prices a little steep considering they charge $14 for guacamole and chips and $14 for two little tacos. But the sangria was awesome! Great place for a dinner before a play. Close toTimes Square.
Guacamole andmargaritas Alway good Went after an early theater
Trusty Good Place
I have been here many times and the service is attentive but not pushy. The food is delicious. I tried to short rib chef signature dish and it was great. The place is crowded and the diners are loud but it's part of the convivial ambiance.
Excellent food !! Fantastic service, atmosphere and price. High end innovative Mexican fare.
sangria and guacamole
Have both, and then a meal, and you are done. Service was great, ambiance great, food great. I had the chicken and my wife had a quesadilla. Portions not so big, so the guacamole was needed as an appetizer. It was very lively, and I have no complaints. I ate everything. Delicious.
Fresh, delicious Mexican food. Service was incredibly friendly and attentive, considering how crowded and noisy it was. Tables and space very close together, but between the amazing food and outstanding service, definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Tequila cocktails did not disappoint either. Also we arrived 30 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic, and line was out the door. Hostess was very accommodating and seated us in less than 10 minutes.
Looked for a restaurant near our hotel and found this via OpenTable. 10 mins between making the reservation and showing up but it worked! Nice Mexican food ans some cocktails worth trying
What a wonderful place to enjoy a quality meal!
What a wonderful place to go eat some amazing food, the waiters, staff and owner are awesome. They made our experience there a perfect one. I highly recommend this place for a good meal before a show or whatever your occasion may be!
Very busy and crowded but treated well
The hostessing staff left something to be desired but this was made up for by our waitstaff who were very attentive and friendly.

Great spot with excellent food near theaters - a great must do choice amid options that are less than memorable.
favorite place in the theater district!
wonderful food, excellent and friendly service. We love Toloache!
The restaurant was very noisy at the bottom. We sat up top and the noise could be heard. The wait staff was very pleasant and informative about the menu. The food was very good with small portions which did not bother me. For people who like to eat lots, the portions may not be enough. The red sangria was lucious as was the guacamole. I would definitely visit again. They also have a nice brunch menu.
Great food, cute restaurant
The brunch menu has a nice variety of Mexican dishes, not your standard tacos. I had the truffle quesadillas, which were sublime. We ordered the guacamole for an appetizer, and it was fresh, chunky and delicious. The portions were modest, perfect for brunch with an appetizer for the table. Tables were nicely spaced, giving some privacy of conversation. The service was attentive, but never overbearing. I will definitely return.
Great Time in NYC , then onto "Book of Mormon"
Took my 2 nephews to this restaurant before we headed to see "Book of Mormon"...what a wonderful experience !! They love Mexican food but this restaurant brings it to a new level of creativity ....and so delicious !!! And the desserts were magnificent! And our waiter was attentive and gave wonderful suggestions.
We were visiting NYC and looking for places to eat that had great food and atmosphere, this is both! The only downfall was that it did get very loud at times.
Although it is packed and quite loud, the food and drinks were far better than they needed to be. The menu is sophisticated and interesting. I'd go back.
1st time in New York
Had reserved table as it was 1st time in New York, and as it was a celebration of my anniversary wanted somewhere good. Restaurant is better than good. Had turned up for reservation late as NY traffic played havoc on plans. Was not an issue, happily seated us. Asked if we were taking in a show and when replied yes, service was immediate. Great drink list, needed after hard day. great selection of food. . Very attentive during whole meal, glass was never empty and constantly asking if everything was ok. If I lived in NYC this would be my go to restaurant. EXCELLENT.
Energetic crowd and tasty food
Liked everything we ordered. The cod fish was superbly prepared and was cooked to perfection. The shrimp entree was very good. We felt it was priced fairly for the area it was located in. You might have to walk up a steep flight of stairs if your seating is upstairs - we didn't mind at all.

Excellent alternative to anything on Restaurant Row. Highly recommended
If you're looking for pretty good Mexican food, spectacular guacamole and margaritas, and an overall fun, lively vibe, this is your place.
Great Food Good Ambiance Way too loud Tables were too close
Great for pre-show lunch
We liked everything about this restaurant. It was easy to find and because my sister has breathing problems, its proximity to the Gershwin Theater was ideal. We had reservations and arrived early, but were seated promptly with no problems. The waitstaff was very attentive but not overbearing and we were not rushed through our meal. The food was very fresh and nicely prepared (we both had chicken quesadillas) and the guacamole was yummy and nicely seasoned. My only complaint was that I ordered a grapefruit margarita and it was rimmed with salt and cayenne, which I was not told when I ordered it. Thankfully I like spicy but it would have been a big surprise to some! All around a very nice dining experience!

Have been here many times and usually enjoy it. They've started really packing in the tables. Everyone is literally on top of each other and conversation is impossible.
Perfect place before a show
This place has great food for not overwhelming prices. More notably here, it has excellent service. When I checked in, they asked what time the Broadway show I was seeing was so that they could cater service to that timeline. The Oaxacan cricket tacos might have been more novelty than gustatory revelation, but still cool. Meanwhile, the Bohemia-braised brisket was awesome. Get that. On our way out, the manager poured me and my date a small snifter of Mescal on the house. Very few better ways to help a great review.
Inventive Mexican Food
One of our favorites in NYC for before or after theater...or anytime. The menu is very inventive with many tasty small dishes as well as main courses. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive. Only thing that keeps it from 5Star across the board is the noise level which can make it difficult to have a conversation when it's crowded or there are large tables of celebrating groups...other times it's fine.

Toloache is still very good authentic well priced Mexican food. Excellent location and service.
Since discovering this Mexican gem several months ago, I have gone there and recommended many times. Always a good vibe, great food, interesting and tasty cocktails... and fun! I asked a true Mexican friend where he liked to eat when he wanted authentic Mexican food and without hesitation, he recommended Toloache. I'm glad I listened!

While the food and service are fine, the seating upstairs was so crowded as to be a fire hazard. It was impossible to exit without weaving our way around crowded aisles. With the prices being relatively high, our party would suggest that the restaurant give up the income from a few tables for the sake of safety. We would also appreciate complimentary chips and salsa, as is typical at other Mexican restaurants. We certainly will return, as the food is excellent, but hopefully our suggestions will not go unnoticed.

Best service ever, but those margaritas make people go crazy and start screaming. The food was VERY good!
Delicious as alwayas
This is the second time I go to this location for lunch, and it is always pleasant with great food. I highly recommend the guacamole that comes with pomegranate seeds, and the fish tacos are delicious (they come with sides!). The avocado fries are a good idea but lacked a little flavor. Staff is friendly and I really appreciate that they don't rush you. Look forward to going back!
Very good food
The food is very good and tasteful. It is a little bit loud inside but very cozy. The service is quick and friendly.
Friendly, fun, attentive staff. Great guacamole. Pretty women and great drinks. Enjoyed a special birthday dinner here with my parents and sister. Can't wait to make it back.
