The Wine Kitchen on the Creek Ratings and Reviews
Nice find in Fredrick
We havent ever been to Fredrick but wanted to take a nice Sunday drive for dinner. Found this place and took a chance. We were well rewarded. The downtown is very lovely and seems vibrant and on its way up. The restaurant is located beside the creek that runs through the town Ambience is casual with indoor and outdoor dining. The staff and service were very good and enthusiastic sbout the wines that are the heart of the experience. The food was very good I particularly liked the tuna tartare tacos as hors doerves. Prices were very reasonable. We had a nice walk through town before returning to Baltimore
Brunch...a little disappointing
TWK has lots of ambience. The food was a little disappointing. The portions are small. The prices are high. The hamburger wasn't cooked properly ( they did take it off the bill). We were disappointed because they were out of two things on the brunch menu by 1:30 pm. The service was adequate, although they very polite. Honestly, I don't think we will go back there, again.
Not up to usual level
I recommended to a friend who had never dined here that we go here for a mother/daughter brunch. I've eaten here multiple times in the past and the food/service were always top-notch. Unfortunately my friend's "hangover helper" entree came out overcooked (she had asked for medium rare and it was clearly well done). Our server, who had been slow to take our initial order, finally stopped by to check in (my friend had already taken a few bites of her food). When he asked how things were and she said the meat was overcooked, he simply said "I'm sorry". No offer to replace it (although by that point the 3 others in the group were well into their entrees). No free dessert or drink. No offering to take it off the bill (which took forever to come and shortened the free time we had to shop before our 4pm Weinberg show). If I could have found a manager I would have explained this situation but no one seemed to be on duty.
What a gem!
We went here for my birthday dinner. I really liked the way you could do a wine tasting with a set of three wines that are grouped together. Ambiance is nice and the food was fantastic! We were seated inside since it was still cold outside, but the seating outside overlooking the creek looked so nice. We will be back and maybe this time we will sit outside.
Very nice evening ....
We enjoyed our wedding anniversary ... They made us feel special. Gave us champagne while we waited to be seated ... server mentioned our "special occasion".
Not all it's hyped to be
Steaks both under and overdone Portion size of scallops was small
Worst meal On 10 years.
Worst meal I have had in at least 10 years. Took one hour to get main course. Roasted cauliflower not roasted. Portions tiny. Buckwheat gnocchi nearly inedible. Wine awesome. Ambience lovely but food downright awful and pricey. Focaccia was soft warm white bread with butter on (which we got because we were starving.) what a disappointment.
Ladies day out
Four of us dined here for lunch, and each was very pleased with the food, wine, service, location and and ambiance. They have another location in Leesburg which we are anxious to try. We were told that the wine selection and menu is totally different there.

The menu is varied and creative. Our meals were delicious works of art. Servers are the best in Frederick. Expensive but worth it. Only wish they didn't run out of menu items so often.

The sirloin was not tender and the scallops should come with a side dish. The fried green tomatoes was good but could have added a couple more slices.

Restaurant was packed early at 6pm. It's Tuesday Wine Flight like night for $9. Love the Roll Out the Red Carpet. Great happy hour too. Love the steak frites cooked to perfection. Tried the Nashville Hot Chicken Steak Buns and were a great appetizer!
We had a very nice evening.
This was the second time we were there and enjoyed it very much. We plan to go back often.
Food was excelent steak overdone but still delish
The food was fresh and delicious steak was over cooked but it was flavorful and juicy despite that. Have the charcuterie soo good. Did a good job adapting and advising on gluten free menu items. Can't wait to go back.
Disappointing First Visit
This was our first visit and the result was disappointing. The food was Ok tasting, but the portion sizes were minuscule and the quality and taste not commensurate with the high price. Overall value for our money was low.
Once again the Wine Kitchen was perfection. The menu always delights, the services was great, wines are always a winner. Nothing to fix. Go and Enjoy!!

Outstanding. We are regulars . Never had a bad meal here. Some are truely remarkable .the duck is to die for.
This was my first dining experience at The Wine Kitchen ... it won't be my last! From the moment I walked in the door, I felt welcome. One of the servers greeted me and brought me a glass of water (unsolicited) while I waited for my date. I loved the ambiance -- simple but somehow chic. We were seated promptly and our server Tim took care of our every need for the next 3 hours. He provided us with a superb appetizer recommendation and was knowledgeable about all of the wines on the extensive wine list. My date and I both chose the rockfish over ravioli as the entree -- and we were both impressed by both the presentation and the flavor! There were many other appetizer and entree options that caught me eye -- I will be returning here soon to try them!
My wife and I celebrated out 30th anniversary at the wine kitchen. We arrived early able to wait at the bar during happy hour. We will be back for that another time. We were promptly seated and showed the menus and told the days specials. I had the 16oz rib eye my wife the chef special 12oz N.Y. strip. Both were cooked to perfection, medium rare, the mashed potatoes and green beans were delicious as well. The wine selection I very good and reasonable priced.
Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. I asked for time between courses and this was honored.

Our server was outstanding. She explain every little nuance of the menu. And had a great sense of humor.
The service was impeccable! The food tasted amazing. The portions seemed small and left me wanting more because it was so delicious.
Food tasty and creative! Our server and his crew were excellent!
Try the 'red carpet' tasting and go from there!
We've enjoyed eating outside there many times for just little bites. This time we met friends there on Friday night of restaurant week. The place was packed but we were lucky and found seats at the bar. Our friends were running late and the hostess cheerfully and professionally accommodated us, remarkable seeing how jammed they were and that our friends ended up being a half an hour late. We were seated 5 minutes after they arrived. At the bar I chose a glass of Sledgehammer Cabernet. Honestly, it was good but not great and at $10/glass I was hoping for a little bit more. (All the wines come with clever, funny little descriptions!) The 'red carpet' wine tasting I had with my meal was phenomenal. I should've had another glass of either the 2010 Italian Barbaresco Riserva or the 2010 Chateau de Callac Graves Merlot. Both were memorable! Highly recommend trying this! I also had the "Triple Bubble" tasting and that was fun but I would probably not do it again. Our meals were very good. The spicy nuts were popular at our table! I would order twice as many next time! The pork belly appetizer was excellent! My husband had steak which was very flavorful but he would've liked a bigger portion. I chose poorly and had the buckwheat gnocchi which was under seasoned and really just tasted like fried mashed potatoes and was served on top of chick peas which were too bland and crunch and the sauce was not great either. For dessert, the guys had cheesecake which they liked but was non-traditional and a small serving. I had a cheese plate that was just right! The service was maybe the best part of the meal! All the servers were top notch! Quick, efficient, professional and fun. Really smart choice on the part of The Wine Kitchen! I will come back to try different things and look forward to memorable wine and great service!
Ordered the fixed menu for restaurant week. Food was great. Upscale service with a casual feel.

The food was amazing. Loved the wines and the beautiful view of the creek. While we appreciated that we weren't rushed along, service could have been quicker. We waited a bit between glasses of wine, and at one point waited for more bread for our cheese tray for 10-15 minutes. Will definitely be back - will just remember to save the experience for when there is time for a leisurely lunch or evening out.
Responsiveness to diners was very disappointing.
Our food was fabulous but the service was very lacking. Our dinners were slow in coming but we did not mind. We had given ourselves 2 1/4 hours to eat. So, we did not mind the slowness. However we had chosen the restaurant week menu and dessert was part of the meal. We had 45 minutes before we had to leave for a show so we asked for the check with the dessert. We got and paid the check and asked how long before we could get the dessert because of the time crunch. They said it was almost ready. They asked if we wanted it to go but we said we should be ok. After another 20 minutes we asked again and got the same response. Did we want it to go, it would just be a few minutes. ( if they could box it couldn't they have served it). We figured we could not take the food into the show so we again said we would wait but now had only about 15 minutes. We never got the dessert and had to leave.

This has become our very favorite restaurant in Frederick! The food is amazing! We live about 50 minutes away and look forward to visiting every few months and always eating at The Wine Kitchen (the best part of our visit).
Great Food & Wine, for Frederick (MD)
Arrived in town late one night and looking for a nice dinner. It was within walking distance from our B&B. What a surprise! The place had good wines and the food choices weres interesting. The waiter was excellent in helping us decide on both a wine and dinner. I'll be back, but there are so many other places to try in Frederick.
After a hiccup things were great
The restaurant has pleasant decor and comfortable chairs. They accommodated the walker that I need to use, providing a table that worked for the situation. Water was delivered upon seating and the waitress followed getting our drink order. Their were some hiccups with our order. No sweetner was brought with my unsweetened Ice Tea and it took a bit to get some. We placed our food order and I asked for the Pastrami eggs benedict. My companion ordered the special of the day a steak, garlic, onion and carrot quiche. Our appetizers were brought out first a maple glazed bacon and a hash brown. A very tasty way to start. When the order arrived the quiche looked appetizing and my friend said it was delicious. When my order arrived it had the look of eggs benedict with the poached eggs and hollandaise, but as I dug in I discovered it was the Maryland Crabcake eggs benedict instead. Just then the manager came over to ask how things were and I let him know of the situation. Of course he apologized profusely, the waitress came over and apologized that she had put the wrong order in and my replacement was quickly brought. It was delicious! The poached eggs were runny just like I asked and the combination mix was very tasty. We topped it off with desert ordering the chocolate terrine and black rice pudding dish. The chocolate dessert was very rich and oh so good. They also accommodated my request to acknowledge my friends birthday putting a candle on her dessert. I think I'll go back when the weather is a little warmer as they have outdoor seating available right on the creek. A pleasant way to spend a few hours.
Creative Culinary Treat on the Creek
We were first time diners at the Wine Kitchen on a Saturday evening in February 2016. Our reservation was honored immediately and we were seated toward the back of the restaurant in a corner against a pole with no view and perhaps the most uncomfortable seating I have ever experienced in a fine dining setting. That said, our server, Laura, and our meals were both excellent. We began with the mushroom bisque and the mini tuna tartar tacos. The bisque was served piping hot and possessed a rich, earthy flavor and beautiful pieces of mushroom. The tacos were indeed 'mini' as billed and not really appropriate for sharing, but excellent nonetheless, with a bit of a kick thanks to some jalapeno. Our entrees included the Long Island duck breast and the vegetable pave. Hands down, this was the best duck we have ever had anywhere. Period. The duck was juicy, flavorful and served atop baby carrots and beets and finished with a cocoa cardamom crumb. Truly outstanding. The vegetable pave was reminiscent of lasagna without the Italian spices or sauce. Thin layers of potato and squash were filled with various vegetables (eggplant, mushroom, et al) and topped with broccolini and an amazing white sauce. Portion sizes were more than adequate, so were not in a position to try dessert. We also had the wine flights, which were fantastic and reasonably priced. The only thing that will keep us from rushing back is the ambiance. The restaurant is austere, the bench seating intolerably uncomfortable and there really is no nice 'view' unless you are seated near the front windows. We will definitely go back at some point, but next time we will insist on a better table with chairs vs. that hard wooden bench or sit outside, weather-permitting.
Great wine selection and delicious food, too
My wife pointed out that you want to be in the mood to sip from a delightful selection of wines if you are going to eat here. But the food complements the selection of wine. Everything we ate was delicious. The professionalism of our waitress made the meal even better. We will head back here again when we are in Frederick.

The food was delicious. The service was friendly, but each time we ordered drinks, we had to wait a long time to get them. It was also uncomfortably chilly in the restaurant.
A gem in downtown Frederick

Always amazing food and incredible service. The goat cheese taters (and fried green tomatoes, when they're in season) are so good.
Excellent food... I had a very nice review mostly drafted when my iPad dumped it. Can't recreate it but LOVE, LOVE, the olives!! So light, so flavorful, I ate almost all of them myself. That lemon rind and e little black olives... wow! Go for the boar shank, you know you want to... And you will be so happy! The turbot special was excellent especially their magical cabbage accompaniment. Hints of thyme and I don't know what else, but that and the olives made my meal go from great to awesome. Weird, right? Trust me. Dessert was least favorite, the wake n cake... Crumb cake was to dry and heavy, but the coffee creme brûlée and Irish cream were delicious. Could I just get those two items? Excellent French press coffee capped the night, and I could only waddle to the Weinberg for Two Man show with Colin and Brad. We will have to find another excuse to come up to Fredrick from Fairfax just to eat here again. Noise level is my only complaint...and even then, the food made up for it! Way to go Wine Kitchen!

We thought the food and wine were very good but the wine was expensive. The service was also very friendly and efficient. I ordered a pork chop that was very flavorful and large in size. My wife ordered the scallops which she really enjoyed but only received 3. The people sitting next to us ordered fish as well and their portions were also small. It was odd that there was such a discrepancy of portion sizes especially considering the prices. We certainly liked the restaurant but for $150.00 for two people and what we received, it was pricey.
Great place for dinner!
I had eaten at The Wine Kitchen before, in August 2015. It was just as good this time, which was a special dinner for my husband & me. The food, service, & ambiance were all great; I had the scallops & my husband had the roasted boar leg, & we were both very happy with our choices. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive, & he helped us select a good wine flight, after which we decided to each have a glass of a California Cab. The dessert we had was the coffee-flavored creme brulee with coffee cake, & it was fabulous. Would definitely recommend The Wine Kitchen, & while we live in Arlington, we will definitely be back in the future.

My favorite restaurant in Frederick, MD which has some nice ones to chose from. Tried the mushroom bisque and buttermilk fried calamari both for the first time and highly recommend! Tuesday is Wine Flight Night for $9. Always go with bold reds entitled Roll Out The Red Carpet! Changes but always three great tastings. Hanger steak frites excellent too. What's not to like and all personnel very personalable! Not always the case there. Highly recommend! !!
