This place used to be great, but..

Dined on December 6, 2015

My husband and I have been there a few times and always really enjoyed their food, but our last visit there was disappointing. The main entrees just didn't work. I had risotto, and it was just a big bowl of farro with nothing else in it. My husband had a strange Japanese inspired dish that was something like a quesadilla. Neither were presented very nicely, just kind of slopped on the plates. I would definitely give them one more chance, though, in the past its been so good. I would play it safe and get a grill cheese.

The food here is awesome--they're well known for their grilled cheeses which is not an accident. The beer list was also really great, and the staff was helpful and super friendly.

My birthday at Queens Kickshaw

Dined on August 19, 2015

We've been to this restaurant before and we never come away disappointed. The cold corn soup was fabulous and so was the macaroni and cheese. I was a little disappointed with the risotto this time around, though on other visits it was wonderful. I had the berry cobbler (with a candle in it) and my husband had the chocolate pudding for dessert, and they were first-rate. The waitress--who was very sweet--consulted with the bartender to help us find the best bottle of cider for our tastes. Overall, it was a fine evening.

A Queen's MUST GO

Dined on August 15, 2015

We enjoyed an absolutely delicious and creative grilled cheese sandwich, their specialty. The cold pressed coffee and other morning beverages were very good as well. Somehow they lost our small order and it took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Without our asking, our waiter was very apologetic and removed the coffees from our bill to compensate us for the wait. The room is charmingly appointed with tin ceilings, interesting light fixtures, vintage wall and floor finishes holding both large communal tables with comfortable benches, as well as several tables for smaller parties. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in Astoria Queens!

Amazing even the second time around!

Dined on August 5, 2015

My husband and I do not eat meat on Tuesdays so we decided to treat ourselves to the Queens kickshaw. I had the cheedar and gruyere on brioche and tomato gazpacho which was heavenly. My husband had the gouda and I had to steal a bite because of his first bite reaction! It was unbelievably good! We shared a Mac a cheese which was almost a meal by itself accompanied by perfectly prepared asparagus and cornbread. The staff and service were great and she allowed us to sit anywhere. We enjoyed it and will definitely come back!

Limited (but good) brunch menu

Dined on August 1, 2015

The brunch menu was a bit limited, but the waitstaff helped us to find some extra goodies for the table. The beer selection was excellent, and I'm told the cocktails were good as well. Overall, the food was good, I'll have to go back and try the full, non-brunch menu.

I made a reservation for Mother's Day. Had a good meal and our server was very nice. Only downside is we had trouble finding it, the sign was in the window but small.

A Great Valentine's Day Dinner

We had the most delicious dinner. I was especially impressed with the turnip risotto and the chocolate pudding. The great waiter helped us choose a wonderful bottle of cider. I look forward to going again.

Cozy cute place. Almost like a lunch counter for modern times. Food was really slow to come out on a late Sunday morning, so we were starving after an hour's wait. They let us linger without paying for a while though, so we could just chat. I'm ambivalent about the place. The food was simple and homey, and the servers were very nice, but we were starving for an hour...

Excellent, but not a table

Dined on December 14, 2014

Everything about this restaurant was great…except OpenTable told me I had reserved a table, and really what I had reserved was two bar stools next to each other in front of the kitchen prep area. Perhaps OpenTable could be a little more straightforward about what kind of seating is available.

Cider heaven

Dined on October 4, 2014

Bartender was super helpful in selecting a bottle of cider. Very different selection. The food was good and they have gluten free bread which is not advertised very well. Not the best GF bread I've had but it's a grilled cheese sandwich so I can't remember the last time I had one so I'll take it! Over all good experience and would go again.

Dined on April 27, 2014

I had read about this place and wanted to give it a try. It has a Williamsburg kind of feel which is cool. Really cool drinks, delicious food! My only issue was the portions were a bit small especially the French toast, however everything was delicious!

Fun, different, worth it

Dined on April 5, 2014

I started coming because of the music, I'd never heard of it before. A few friends came with me and started telling me the food is famous. I tried the grilled cheese with tomato soup... and dang! It's all it's cracked up to be. I like the family style seating in the front, and enjoy listening/watching the band. The wine list is not typical, but I enjoyed the bottle!

My Favorite Restaurant in Queens!

vip
Dined on March 14, 2014

I have been patronising the Queens Kickshaw for years. They make some of the most delicious food in this state. Here's a real testamant to their culinary prowess... they're a vegetarian restaurant, and I never even NOTICED. I am a omnivore with predominantly carniverous leanings, and it never occurred to me once that I was missing meat from my meals here. They are THAT good. Their Brunch, Their Dinners are exceptional, I wish I lived closer to nab lunch and breakfast there too.

Hipster Hotspot

Dined on February 23, 2014

For those seeking refuge in a refurbished spot with pre-war ceilings and bare brick walls, look no further than this little gem. Their brunch food is vegetarian, which I did not notice at first because I was too busy scarfing down their delicious grilled gouda cheese sandwich and sipping on their cider cocktails. I have gone here with my family twice and have yet had a bad time. The joint is clearly going for a refined hippie vibe with the selection of ciders and a kombucha beer. The coffee selection is AMAZING. Each has different notes and from a remote and exotic corner of the world. A haven for coffee-lovers. The service was okay, but since it was a busy brunch Sunday brunch time, I can forgive the stone-faced demeanor of our servers.

Can't Wait to Get Back

Dined on November 10, 2013

Craft beer lovers, this place is for you! They have an astonishing number of bottles and glasses that actually help you enjoy the beer's nose and body. The Cold Poached Eggs are beyond delicious. I could eat only those for an entire meal! They really know how to balance flavors here; every dish is complex and takes a couple bites to fully appreciate. The beer ice cream affogato was sold out when we were there -- just another reason to get back as soon as possible. The wait staff was clearly busy, so our waitress was short with us, but polite. It was clearly an issue of her being a little overworked. Overall, it's a new favorite, and we'll be coming back soon.

Had the cheese & egg sandwich

Dined on October 26, 2013

Had the cheese & egg sandwich which features a cheese crisp - amazing. By far one of the best dishes I've had. Had some cider in honor of Cider Week but I guess I didn't choose so wisely on that part. I'd come again.

Disappointing

Dined on September 14, 2013

Service was terrible. Our server left us without water or a drink many times. He was rude. No thank you, have a nice night, thanks for coming, etc. He was too preoccupied watching the band and chatting with co-workers. Food was mediocre and a bit overpriced. We had to send the dessert back because it was terrible.

Excellent Experience

Dined on August 15, 2013

Having never been here before, and without a recommendation, I chose to bring my boyfriend and guests here for a birthday dinner. I made this decision based on the enticing Vegetarian menu and the website. We were far from disappointed. Ben was great at answering my questions and setting up the reservation. The meal was sumptuous and divine, a real treat for our whole party of varied tastes. We'll be back, especially for the Deep-Fried Squash Blossoms!
