If there is any dry aged steak there, don't think twice. Just do it. Also, the bread pudding. Oh my gosh, the bread pudding. I want that every day, all day, until the day I die.

Great Date Night Spot
My husband and I enjoyed our second date night at the Oak Table! They have a great atmosphere and the service was excellent! My husband had a lamb special that was fantastic. I had a ribeye special that was good, but my expectation was a little higher. Overall though I would reccomend it to friends!

Everything was perfectly average. Wine list is pretty sparse in my opinion. We ordered the bone marrow and it was unevenly cooked and there was portions that couldn't be eaten. I got the duck which was a little overdone and slightly dry. My husband got a steak ordered mid-rare and it was still pretty blue in the middle, much more rare. I enjoyed the ambiance but I've had better meals.
First time here! Seriously so good! Our server was Erin and she was great! Explained everything. Gave suggestions.! Kept out drinks full! Restaurant was clean! And food was amazing. Seriously if they have the dry aged ribeye on special GET IT!! Pork belly small plate was also great!
Excellent dining !! a great server A+ all the way
I would highly recommend for a romantic evening or just fun with friends. Awesome servers and outstanding food.
Great for special occasion
This was the 60th birthday party for a good friend. Four of us had a fabulous meal and excellent wine to celebrate. I highly recommend this restaurant; I have never had anything but the best food and service in Columbia.
Overall, it was average, had higher expectations. The manager was nice and seated us. Then took 10 minutes for our server to come over. She was nice. Our food took almost 40 minutes. 4 of us ordered the same thing and the veggies were very inconsistent. Mine were hard and not cooked well, it was a little cold as well. Some people had super soft veggies. Service was just slow, guess thats typical in a college town.
Enjoyed every delicious morsel!
From the wonderful southern greeting and our fantastic server, Erin. We had a fantastic meal and will be back again! Love the brunch menu!

I felt the menu was too limited and contained too many high calorie, high carb items. A simple dish of protein minus the gravy would have been nice.
Not sure I will be rushing back.
Oak Table food is good and the specials are VERY good. However, our wait staff was not good. Nearly snorted with derision when correcting pronunciation of an item, and shared a story of basically mocking another patron in front of a date when that person had also mispronounced the word. Then was absent most of the evening; floor manager filled the gaping hole by pouring wine as needed...

Went for Valentine's brunch. The egg sandwich with goat cheese was delicious. The cocktails were also really good! Will definitely go back and try for dinner.
Great brunch as usual!
This was our 3rd visit here for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere is enjoyable and you don't need to wait in a long line outside for a table like some other brunch places in downtown Columbia. We made a reservation only a few hours before arriving. The bottomless mimosas are always our favorite pick and we tried something new and enjoyed the chicken and waffles this time. We will be back!

We went for brunch ... I have to say it reminded us of a place we would go to when we lived in D.C. The service was outstanding, the food just as good, and the environment great. The menu was a bit limited, but enough to fit the occasion. We enjoyed our brunch, which consisted of bread pudding french toast and a bacon, egg and goat cheese sandwich with truffle fries. You can't go wrong with bottomless mimosas. With a view of the South Carolina state house and a comfy setting, it seems like the kind of place you could get used to going to ...
Two Week Reservation: Stowed Away in Back
I'm disappointed that I chose to get a reservation almost 2 weeks prior to valentine's day...at a good time to eat dinner based on closing time...and my beautiful date and I didn't even get to eat in the main room with the bar and open kitchen atmosphere. It's a very different experience; eating in the back versus enjoying the ambiance of the main room. This will be the last time that I frequent for this place for dinner.
Disappointing to say the least for Valentine's Day
Overall, my first experience at Oak Table was just ok. My girlfriend and I were seated in the private area back room (just like another reviewer was) next to a boisterous table of 8. Had I known the restaurant was laid out like this I would have obviously requested to not have been put in this area. Additionally, I feel as if I should have been placed in the main dining area as I made this reservation well in advance of three weeks for a special occasion such as a pre Valentine's Day dinner. I would be more understanding had this been a "last minute" situation but this was not the case. A dark, almost sterile feeling room separated from the main part restaurant was not how I imagined my dinner going. Also the window next to our table looking out towards Gervais St is not well sealed because half way through the dinner my girlfriend and I were freezing cold due to the draft of cold air coming in next to our feet. The food left something to be desired as well. The salads we selected before our meal were quite good. However, when it came to dinner the scallops my girlfriend received were overcooked. In my opinion, pan seared scallops should be executed to perfection for a restaurant of this quality. Furthermore, our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly but rarely checked on us regularly with any sort of frequency. Instead it seemed most of his attention was diverted to that large table behind us which is disappointing. In summary, I do feel as if a restaurant of this caliber should be held to a higher standard for the prices charged. And ultimately, the location of our table combined with these other factors definitely negated a lovely Valentine's Day dinner experience.

My wife and I enjoyed our Valentine's Day dinner at The Oak Table. The food was amazing! The menus is very good, but it is fairly limited. Our entrées and appetizers were outstanding. Mixed drinks were inventive and delicious! We passed on the dessert because my wife is a chocoholic, and there was not enough chocolate for her taste. We look forward to returning in the near future.

The pork belly is amazing! Perfect place for a date night. Amazing cocktails! A real find in Downtown Columbia.
Good but uncoordinated
Our food was good but took a very long time for no reason. Drink service was also slow and erratic. The restaurant was not that full. Got the impression that things were not running smoothly that night.
My experience at the oak table was great. The atmosphere is very laid back and romantic at the same time. I'm a bread and butter kind of girl; the hot rolls and butter with a hint of sea salt was delicious. I would like to see more options on the menu because it will give me the opportunity to eat something out of my norm. I ordered the chicken dinner and it was not as tasty as it looked but the overall experience was great and would absolutely dine with the Oak Table again
Great start; poor finish; won't return.
My wife and I decided to try a new restaurant (The Oak Table) for Valentine's Day. At first, the experience seemed promising. Great drinks; great entrees; great service. When it came to dessert, though, our experience was ruined. Of the six flavors available for ice cream and sorbet, we were only interested in two (smoked cinnamon ice cream and blood orange sorbet). A flight is three flavors. We expressed this information to the waitress and asked for more details about the other flavors. We finally settled for oatmeal ice cream as our third flavor. When the flight came out, the sorbet was completely liquid. The waitress apologized for it being so runny, explaining that it was just made that day and was not set properly. We each took one bite of it and could not eat any more. When the waitress returned, and we had not eaten any more of the sorbet, she apologized, cleared the plate from the table, and commented about fixing it. She returned with a banana flavored ice cream. We absolutely hate banana flavored desserts. Again, we each took one bite to try and allow this to "fix" the experience. When the waitress returned, she took the plate. We explained that we did not like banana flavored desserts. She said, "I tried." When we received the bill, the dessert was included. Conclusion 1: We tipped her nicely. She did her job. She tried to fix it. Conclusion 2: We will not be returning. Management should not have allowed the sorbet to be served. If the blood orange sorbet were not an option, we would have skipped dessert entirely, and the night would have ended on a positive note. Since the sorbet was improperly served, we should have been given the option of taking the dessert off the bill or choosing an alternate dessert. Again, this seems to me a management issue. Apparently $8 for a dessert is worth losing a customer.
Food, price, and space
Service was excellent, however, the price of $40 for a ribeye that was nothing special in its preparation or portion is notable. The snapper special lacked in flavor and was not hot (but I did not send it back... my fault). In addition, the area around the bar is too small for people to get past it. The choices for bottles of wine left a lot to be desired in the more moderate price ranges. We loved the indoor parking option however. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the experience (aside from the good waitress).

Excellent food and service!
My steak was done to perfection thanks to the expert advice of Sam, our waiter. He was very knowledgable and highly engaging. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! If you choose to try the sweet and spicy margarita, be prepared for heat from the habanero infused vodka! Whoo hoo!

LOVE Oak Table- creative menu, friendly gracious staff. Only less than stellar quaility is the two top tables are too small.
Brief review for a recent Saturday night.
Very good food and service. A bit noisy. Pricey, but not out-of-line for the quality. Bavette steak and duck breast were excellent. Interesting vegetables. My spouse's Wreckfish in broth seemed fishy to me, but she didn't think so. Truffled fries were dynamite and enough to serve as a starter. Three cocktails, one side dish, three main courses, three glasses of wine (no appetizers, no desserts, no coffee) = $160 including tax plus $30 tip.
Poor dining experience, not recommended.
Hangar steak entrees came out at room temperature, nothing on the plate was hot. Auxiliary bread/appetizer plates and knives were left out during the duration of meal (no bread was offered). Bright and distracting televisions were on in both dining rooms destroying the ambiance of low lights and candlelit tables. Not sure what The Oak Table is aiming for, but it certainly isn't worth going back to experience again.
The Oak Table Experience
Dinner there on Saturday evening with wife and another couple. Cheese & Meat board as appetizer was fantastic, followed by a great seafood (SC Wreckfish) or a very tasty pork loin. Wine list is great, but not extensive. Service was excellent. A very bright spot on the downtown Columbia evening scene, directly across from the State House. Highly recommend as special occasion restaurant!!!
The absolute best first date post-baby
We went to The Oak Table for my husband's birthday, and also to have our first real date with the baby at home with a sitter. Words cannot express how wonderful our evening was. We enjoyed the Heritage Chesire Pork Belly, House-Made Charcuterie, Hanger Steak, and bread pudding. The pork belly was tender and soft, yet had a bark on the outside that added a layer of flavor that was superb. The terrine on the charcuterie course was masterfully prepared, as well as the chicken liver pâté and other items served. Since my husband and I split the Hanger Steak, they divided it for us in the kitchen, so that we each had our own plate with stunning presentation of all the items in the dish. The bread pudding was served with house-made cinnamon ice cream, which really did well against the peaches and crunchy caramel corn. At no time did I ever feel awkward or out-of-place, having not been out to a nicer place in quite a while. It was a completely relaxing vibe, and the music was not overpowering so that you could hear your partner talk. I appreciated meeting the chef, which let me know how much he truly cared about what his hands had crafted. The prices were spot-on for the quality of food. If you want just an average steak, go elsewhere, because you will not find anything that is just "average" here. Give it a try-- just make sure to make a reservation first!
