Lovely and comfortable with pleasant staff but food was bland.
Fantastic view and excellent food and service.
Consistently great food, the new chef really bring the menu to a new level. I tried the shrimp toast and was originally and greatly done, then the swordfish was excellent. My wife tried the ribs and were really nicely prepared. As usual the service was terrific.

This restaurant has it all. Great food, ambiance, a beautiful view, but most importantly a staff that consistently shows the highest standards of customer service at each and every position.
TheThey greeted us with "Happy Anniversary", and the best dinnerwdinnerware could wish for. Service was great. Food was excellent.
The service was very good, food was delicious and the wine selection was awesome. The view was beautiful and I would recommend to friends.
If you like crab cakes that taste like crab with no filler, then you can't beat the ones you get here.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Highly recommend. Been going there for years.
Not as good as usual
We go here every Easter and we are normally very pleased. However, the food did not measure up this time. I had to send the filet back twice because it was way too rare. Then I got a crabcake instead, which had lots of lump crab meat - but very little flavor. I'm not sure if the chef has changed, but it did not meet our expectations this time around. We will try again - and hopefully it will be better.
The swordfish was wonderful!
The swordfish was wonderful!
Great Dinner Spot
IS a great place for a romantic evening, has a spectacular view, right on the water.

Great food and service! I got the stuffed filet and it was cooked exactly the way I asked and the crab was all lump and with a delicious imperial on top. Hubby got the stuffed pork chop and it was huge! Cream of crab soup was delicious tho a tad too salty I think. Awesome sunset views in an elegant, upscale dining room. Will go back for sure!
OUR SPOT WHEN WE ARE IN OCEAN CITY MARYLAND
This could be a 5 star restaurant - but when the wait staff greets you with " how are you guys" that is a major turn off -- especially when I am paying$43.00 for crab cakes!
Some of OC's best food
This restaurant has some of the best food in the area. The garlic spread appetizer platter is a great way to start a dining experience. The view of the sunset over the bay was exquisite.
A Great Resturant Week Find
The Hobbit came recommended but we were delighted to discover it during Resturant Week. We chose the cream of crab soup that came highly recommend and found it to be a rich cream sherry base with generous lumps of crab in ever spoonful. The crab cake entree met my expectation as did my spouse's salmon entree.
Great Dining Experience
The food was outstanding! The view at sunset was very beautiful and set the mood for a great dinner with a group of friends. The restaurant was packed ... as a result, service a bit slow but we were not in a hurry.
Booked months ago
Our 35th wedding anniversary and requested sunset view, we were stuck in a corner spot and could not view full sunset unless we looked thru a mirror!

Great service and delicious food. Great ambiance.
Very nice romantic occasion
Food was good, nicely done. Swordfish could have been a bit fresher, but all in all very nice. Place to go for nice sunset view, Hobbit Sunset (or something like that) cocktail was very nice. Cioppino was seasoned wonderfully, loved it. Cornmeal dusted oysters were quite interesting .. sauce wonderful. Crust was perhaps a bit too much, but really quite original and tasty .. recommended. All in all, perhaps one of the best dining spots in OC.
Second Dining at the Hobbit
Had our second dining experience at the Hobbit to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Everything was exceptional and first rate. We both think that the Hobbit is the best dining experience in Ocean City.
Food and service were both excellent, and we were seated by a window over looking the bay.

I had the slow cooked rib (aka braised short rib) and it was so good I'm going back there again tonight. I've ordered this a few times at other places and sometimes you get a rib that is so fatty half of it gets tossed. This was a great piece of meat cooked to perfection with a great sauce and awesome mashed potatoes. I opted for plain mashed instead of the horseradish mashed.
We went during the storm weather the past Oct 2nd. Wasn't very crowded for a Friday night because of that I'm sure. Our waiter was courteous, but seemed dis-interested in the overall experience of the customer. The meal overall was fine, but considering the price, probably won't return.
A great find
My husband just tried a search for somewhere new for our anniversary dinner. We picked an early time, for we were hoping for sunset and was not disappointed. The room was open, one wall all window looking onto the marsh and bay. Stunning view, great food, wonderful staff...will be back.
Good romantic place
We always make the Hobbit a must place to celebrate our anniversary in OC MD.
Didn't really understand why, in a mostly empty restaurant with fantastic views, they would choose to seat us behind a wall. Would have made a stink if it hadn't been ugly outside. Any thought of complaint flew out of my head after we had our appetizers. My husband became a duck convert after having the duck confit ap, my crab stack was delicious! Being a big shell fish fan I ordered the cioppino. Delish!! Husband's swordfish was also delicious. Definitely returning the next time we come to OC!
dining at sunset
Very nice sunset, ambiance was good for dinner with my wife. Food and service were excellent. Would highly recommend for a special night out!
Ambiance was nice. Went there and took my boyfriend for a romantic dinner. Had high expectations from friends who had been there. Calamari was warm but mostly batter. I had the salmon and it was delicious but the Brussel sprouts came out burnt. Food was warm. Our dinner came out literally right after our appetizers and we weren't even done eating them. We were expecting a little more fine dining experience. Let the waitress know about the Brussel sprouts and calamari and she apologized but didn't offer new ones. For the price we paid for our meal I expected better service and accommodations and higher quality of food.
Hobbit not up to par
I'm seeing coincidences, if not a trend, that makes me wonder if Open Table reservations get the poorer seats. This is not the first time we've made OT reservations (2 tops and 4 tops) and been seated at less than desirable tables at various restaurants. Sometimes the restaurant gladly reseats us at better tables, but this latest time, just prior to sunset, we were seated at a far corner table with the view obstructed by a large concrete column, yet there were "open tables" with better views available at the window. I'm getting tired of having to ask to be reseated. Food was very good, as usual, service was so-so, but the seating was disappointing.
Return to the Hobbit
First time to visit the Hobbit Restaurant in their new setting. Everything about the visit was exceptional from the moment we entered the restaurant til we left. We would highly recommend the Hobbit and have made it our number one favorite place to eat in town.
Very Nice Special Occasion Venue
The service was outstanding--quiet, timely and appropriately respectful. Food for the most part was very good-- flavorful with appropriate portion size. One minor disappointment was the Veal Pistachio, which was a little on the chewy side. A very enjoyable experience. By the way, the Hobbit Theme ends at the circular entrance. Everything else was clean/modern and elegant.
Wonderful evening at The Hobbit. From the minute you walk in, the impeccable staff treats you like you are the most important person in the room. Garvey is a wonderful manager and host. The view is to die for and the food is delicious. It is pricy, but worth going to.

We went for our wedding anniversary, we wanted to try something different since we were in OC, food was good, drinks were ok, we missed the sunset would've been a great view tho, but we got to see fireworks from our seats
Great Views and Great Food
We dine at the Hobbit 5 to 6 times a year and the food and service keeping bringing us back. The outstanding sunset views over the bay, make this the MUST visit restaurant in Ocean City. Our server on this visit, Jessica, was excellent, attentive, but not pushy. She knew the menu and had very good suggestions and helped make this another excellent dining experience.

The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was well done with a beautiful view. However, the dining experience was diminished by how shockingly loud it was inside. People were raising their voices to high levels to be heard over everybody else who were raising their voices for the same reason, creating an atmosphere you would normally find in a loud bar and not a fine dining establishment.
Excellent food and wine!
Everything my husband, friends, and I had was wonderful and we all highly recommend The Hobbit Restaurant for your stay in Ocean City MD.
Blending old and new!
We first dined at The Hobbitt way back in the '80's., and many times since then, over the years. We loved it but for whatever reason, had not been there in recent years, and spur of the moment, decided to go again. To our surprise it's a totally "new" restaurant and vibe. The original was more low key. The "re-incarnation" is more edgy. The food was terrifc, and in our case the service was exceptional. Thank you "Tim Preziosi". The prices have edged dramatically upward. We recalled "moderate upscale pricing" before. Now it is definitely more high end. Worth it, but not where you would go every week unless your dining out budget is exceptional. Only suggestion(s) would be to offer the option of "plate sharing". For moderate/smaller appetities, it hurts to see so much food go to waste. And maybe add at least one pasta option. Overall, highly recommend.
Eat like a Hobbit
Food fantastic. Dining area clean, open, quiet, oh the views. Prices expected. Not cheap, not expensive, just right. Service professionally friendly. Highly recommended.

Service was great, food excellent, especially the creme brulee! ! Crab cakes tasty and meaty, but dry, but the tartar sauce we asked for did the trick!
The Hobbit has it all!
The Hobbit has it all -great food, great service, and great views. This spot is fabulous for a romantic evening meal during sunset!
We have been disappointed lately with the top tier restaurants in Ocean City. Someone suggested the Hobbit and since it was across the street from where we were staying we figured let's give it a try. The reviews were all positive and the menu appealing. Our 8:15 reservation was just beyond sunset but we could still see a hint on the horizon (get there before sunset just for the view). We were seated promptly, server greeted us and took our drink order, mentioned daily specials, etc. Our dinner selections were Cioppino, Slow cooked Short Rib, and the Pepper Dusted catch which was Swordfish. All were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, nicely displayed, full of flavor. Short Rib was tender as could be. Swordfish was a nice thick portion. Cioppino has the usual shellfish and a portion of Sword in a nice tomato broth. Nice rolls served with dinner. We shared the Mary's Delight for dessert- walnut crust, chocolate pudding/cream cheese filling, topped with whipped cream. Awsome. Total bill was in line with overall dining experience. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.
