The Heartline Cafe Ratings and Reviews
I often order duck and this was some of the best duck I have had in a restaurant in a long time. My husband ordered pork tenderloin and thought the flavors and tenderness were exceptional. It was too cold to sit outside. The inside decor was a bit shabby, but we don't go to restaurants to look at high end interiors, we go to eat good food and drink good wine. It was a lovely dinner. We live far away, but if we lived near we would certainly go back.
I would recommend Heartline with reservations. This place has terrific food, and not sure what was wrong the day we were there, but they seemed to be short-staffed and unorganized. They were out of chicken salad, but didn't know that until several minutes after I'd ordered it. The server was doing her best--there just didn't seem to be enough staff there, even though they also didn't really seem to be all that busy. . .
Fodor's had listed the Heartline Cafe as one of Sedona's best. However, it unfortunately was probably one of the worst meals I've ever had. Our waitress, Taz, was fabulous & would not let us pay for our entrées-though we were quite willing, despite the poor quality of food. I know every restaurant can have an "off" night, but this food was really sub par. The owner didn't come by to address the issue, which I feel is very poor business practice. Live & learn!

We were on vacation and the restaurant had fairly good reviews so we tried it on our last night in Sedona. The waitress was excellent, the bottle of wine was reasonably priced and the salads good. The restaurant was not crowded so we did not rush not was there a rush to get food to us. It seemed that there was only one or perhaps two waitresses on the floor at 6:30 when we ordered. When we received our meals my girl friends steak was rare so she sent it back as she had ordered it cooked medium. As I had fish( which was good and at a proper temperature) I began eating and was pretty much finished dinner by the time her meal came back but it was again rare. At that point we cancelled the steak and had dessert. The restaurant did not charge us for the steak and comped us for the desserts but it was an unsatisfying end to our vacation. Waitress was excellent and seemed to be genuinely concerned for our dissatisfaction.
Delightful Find in Sedona
Really thrilled to find this restaurant! Fabulous food, fresh, local ingredients. Wonderful preparation. Service was excellent. Deserts to die for!! Patio dining for breakfast/lunch on weekends or evenings in warmer weather. This will be a FAVORITE for years to come!
Best Birthday Dinner!
Chef was Most accommodating to my special requests due to my Picky Eating habits. The entire staff was charming and treated us like family. In the past, I have driven from Scottsdale, Arizona to Heartline Cafe... Just for dinner and then back home! (Almost 2 hours Each Way) It's that Amazing;). Thank you All again for making me feel like a Princess on my Special Day!!!!

He location was perfect! The food delicious and fresh. The server was just lovely. A great experience
Disappointment to say the least
Heartline Cafe was on every list of best restaurants in Sedona. I don't know he after a disappointing meal. The food was blah. The ahi tuna was not seared or rare; it was cooked all the way through, even though my husband ordered that way. The lobster blinis appetizer arrived cold and salty. The molten lava cake was dry. We walked away disappointed and still hungry.
Used to be good
Have been several times in the last couple of years and always had great food. Not this time. Overall lacked flavor and seasoning: salad was drowning in dressing, soup was too sweet, barely warm ravioli was floating in tomato juice, pistachio crusted chicken was lackluster and mushy, bacon wrapped filet was fatty soggy bacon around a rubbery piece of meat. Didn't stay for dessert. Expensive mistake.

The food was mediocre and it came slowly, even though the restaurant was not crowded.
We were visiting from the SF Bay Area and decided to try The Heartline for their Easter brunch. It was reasonably priced and very pleasant. We dined outside on the back patio and enjoyed a relaxing, quiet and lovely atmosphere. The brunch was a buffet and there were somewhat limited choices, but overall, a great value and nice dining experience. I liked their dinner menu but didn't have time to return this trip. Would return in the future.
Needs a lot of work
At first, I hope that the tired and outdated ambience was not a precursor to the food. I was wrong. The four of us had very boring and overall poorly prepared meals. Extremely expensive for one of the worst dining experiences we have had in recent memory.
The back patio is charming with a beautiful fireplace and meticulous landscaping. Food was excellent and service was good. Highly recommend this restaurant.

3 of 5 tables when we arrived walked out because it took so long to get their food. Our food arrived after 90 minutes and was barely edible. I would avoid this place.
Always our First Dinner Choice in Sedona
Alwaysl visit when in the area and look forward to it. Outstanding food, comfortable atmosphere, great service and always welcoming. Couldn't ask for more. Often recommend to those visiting Sedona area, especially the patio.
We hadn't been in Sedona in quite a few years. The Heartline was always one of our favorite spots, so we were pleasantly surprised that it was still there. Hands down Zefon, rhymes with Stefon, was the best wait staff that we had in Sedona. My wife's pork loin was one of the best that we've ever had anywhere. Cocktails were terrific. Good wine list. As always a wonderful place. I had a terrific steak with peppercorn sauce.

Poor service, mediocre food. Served salt water for tea.
The Heartline Cafe was recommended by our innkeeper, but we had no idea how memorable it would be. While the decor is simple, the food and service are anything BUT. First, we were so impressed with our server who was knowledgable, attentive & dedicated. Our meals were delicious, especially the trout entree for which they are well-known. The wine selections were also very impressive. As suggested, we did not leave without dessert; this night the special was a poached pear in puff pastry w/ cinnamon ice cream. It was nearly a life-changing experience! All in all, our visit to The Heartline Cafe was very memorable and we highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Sedona. It will not disappoint!
We enjoyed the evening very much. A quiet night there...excellent service and great food.
A favorite "go to" in Sedona
Bartender made awesome muddled olive martinis and all the servers and staff were friendly and professional. The food was of high quality and never disappointing.

Loved this place! Don't miss the rack of lamb and the pecan crusted trout! Wonderful warm atmosphere! Modestly priced with a nice wine list!! We would return in a heartbeat!

Great wait staff and food. Unfortunately over booked for Valentines Day. We were seated 45. Minutes after our reservation time. Such is a holiday,
This restaurant was not wow like they picture it online the food was bad the cervice was horrible the wait was like an hour even though I had reservations. The restaurant I general was bad and is over priced
Do not go
We witnessed three full tables get up and leave without being seen by a server or any food being dropped. We were the same. All sad faces in the dining room. A shame.
Valentines at the Heartline
We had 7:30 reservations and were told at 7:40 they could seat us in 45 minutes. Unless we could eat on patio. We did take seats on patio but it turned out to be too cool and we moved when a table on warmer part was available. We got our soup right away but it told 30 minutes for salad and then over an hour for the entrée. Food was fantastic but the rest of the experience was not.
Over priced and average food
I was looking forward to a nice Valentine dinner, but at $106 I felt that the meal was overpriced for the quality. My steak was medium well and had ordered Med. rare. No one even asked how the food was. The soup was way too thin and really tasteless. They seemed like the staff was shorthanded.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Sedona, but the food was very disappointing this time.
Good Sedona dining
The friendly and welcoming staff were a good first impression. We enjoyed the night's surf and turf and pasta special. Outdoor patio looked great, but was too chilly to enjoy. Restaurant was cozy and inviting.
Heartline did not disappoint regarding food. Pecan Crusted Trout is their specialty and it was exceptional. The ambiance was my only complaint. Sedona has a vibrant restaurant scene and The Hearline restaurant is not keeping pace. It's decor needed updating. The lighting was either too bright or too dark (no dimmers) Also this might be an open table issue but when I made a reservation it stated there were no tables available at 7:00 p.m. but when we arrived at 7 there was literally one other table in the entire restaurant.
Dog-friendly high end dining
We ended up at this restaurant upon recommendation of a friend when we found out that our dog was not going to cooperate with being left in our hotel and the nicer restaurants near our hotel were not dog-friendly. They opened the patio for the first time this season and put on the heaters for us. The atmosphere was nice and romantic and the menu was great. Wonderful salad courses, my filet mignon and the steak and scallops were perfectly cooked with seasonal vegetables, and the creme brulee was a treat, passing muster with my French wife. As an added surprise, our attendant spoke several languages including French! As a tip, definitely pay a little extra to upgrade your salad, it is well worth it. Overall it was a marvelous experience and the pup appreciated being included and given his own water bowl.
Excellent dining experience
My husband and I loved the Hearline Café so much that we ate dinner here both nights of our weekend stay. Every single employee we encountered was attentive and friendly. The service was impeccable, fine dining quality service. The meal was timed properly so we were not rushed through the meal but also did not have long wait times between courses. I really can't say enough about the service. Our server Esther hit every point of fine dining service. I don't want to leave out the food though! Also excellent! The crabcakes were a highlight and my husband loved the trout. They were obviously handmade with fresh delicious crab. For desert, the pear is not to be missed. We will surely be back to Heartline every time we visit Sedona.
read so many great reviews but the food was average at best and not worth the price. I was expecting much better. Made recommendations as suggested and the place was dead - maybe 3 other tables the entire length of time we were dining.
Disappointing food & dated decor
A sad finish to a great vacation. Food was flavorless and poor presentation. Decor dated and tired. Service needs work. Hardly fine dining and for the price point had far better meals elsewhere. Heartline lacks heart. Sad as I was so looking forward to this experience. Would not return or recommend.
Lovely Find in Sedona
We had been told when we moved here to be sure to try Heartline. We had first checked out the flashier and more well known restaurants, but for a pre-birthday treat and looking for a place that served trout for my husband's yen, we landed on Heartline. We were pleased even before entering the restaurant. It's cheery, twinkle-lit cottage like setting set the anticipation. We arrived early for a pre-dinner cocktail, which we enjoyed at the cozy but pleasant bar. The restaurant was not very busy although it picked up as the night went on. We ordered appetizers, entrees and a dessert and found the bill quite reasonable, even with a bottle of wine. I won't go into details on the food - suffice to say we both enjoyed everything very much. We will be back soon.
Very good dinner
We had a good dinner this time around. We decided give this restaurant one more chance since our dinner last time was not good. We were happy to see a healthy amount of craisons back in the salad. The duck was very good. The ribs were excellent. There was a problem with getting our order on time though. I don't think there were enough waiters. Luckily we weren't in a hurry. Our appetizer didn't show up for a very long time and we were told that we would be comped for them. They were a bit over cooked. Still good though. Very friendly staff.
LOVED the food previously. Need improvement this x
I have recommended this restaurant to many and was quite disappointed in our recent experience. We were there 12/30/15 and I ordered the trout which I have made numerous times. I was so inspired by the chef's preparation of the dish in the past that I purchased his cookbook years ago. The fish was without much flavor and mealy. I had to send it back. Even the waiter commented on the appearance of the dish. A second effort produced a far better rendition but at this point our dinner lost a bit of its romance, eating our meals separately. I would be surprised to discover if the chef was present he would allow the first dish to leave the kitchen. There was no offer from the waiter to compensate for our lackluster experience. Really disappointed in what had become almost a religious gastric experience in previous visits.
We hadn't been to Heartline Cafe in a few years, but we always had an enjoyable meal when we went. Not so much this time. Although the atmosphere is still lovely, and the service was friendly, the kitchen has really declined. The food was mediocre, and I hate to say we won't be back soon.
This was our first visit to The Heartline Cafe and the staff appeared unorganized. The hostess (owner) took our drink & dinner orders and we never were really introduced to our server. Just never got that connection of personal service. I made the reservations a month in advance & didn't realize that it was a prix fixe menu. Food quality was a bit lacking as the salad was just kale with a sprinkle of dressing - minimal grapes/blue cheese. Rest of meal was relatively luke warm. We tried to make the best of it, but in the end the whole dining experience was a downer.
Cozy dining experience
We were impressed with both the wine list and food. Friendly and helpful table server. Good value for a nice dinner out.
I had made the reservations for Thanksgiving dinner at the Heartline well over a week in advance. It was our first trip to Sedona for the holidays and we had high hopes of having a great meal. We arrived at 7:15 for our 7:30 reservation and did not get seated until 8:15! To be fair, there were a lot of diners lingering and we were told a reservation mix up occured with a party of 2 that turned out to be a party of 7. With that said, the delay was extremely long. The employees repeatedly mentioned in an exasperated fashion that " (they) had been at this since 1 that afternoon". To make matters worse, there was no place to comfortably wait or order an appetizer to take off the edge of hunger. The incoming parties with reservations were not being tracked orderly by the staff (half the time they weren't sure WHO was next to be seated). Then, after ordering drinks at the bar, we were handed a handwritten, ripped off piece of paper with our drink order to hand to our waiter for when we were finally seated. Kind of tacky, not a very good system of transferring bar orders. We realize that the holidays can be busy and were patient throughout the experience; however, I can't help but think that some better preparation could have made a big difference; patio heaters on the outdoor patio to allow diners waiting to have drinks or appetizers in comfort while being systematically checked in with a seamless transfer of your bar order for starters. Our bill for a family of 4, two adults and two children was over $200. We all agreed not worth it and overall disappointing experience.
