The Class Act Ratings and Reviews
Russian Passport Meal
This was the fifth of our six Passport Meals. Each has been a memorable experience. This was the best as our waiter, Jon Sladek, was as enjoyable as the meal itself. As an aspiring mixologist, he wowed us with his Cinnamon, Vanilla, White Russian as well as two other original cocktails. Can't wait for our Brazillian dinner and hope we get to see Jon again!
Excellent Russian dinner!

We stayed at the hotel as something different. While booking we noticed the Resturant and decided to give it a try. Based on the pictures and the menu online, I was excited to try it. It was both my husband and mine birthday celebration and the waitress made us feel special. The food was phenomenal and the service was excellent. We have already told people about Class Act and can't wait to come back.
We attended the Vietnamese dinner with friends. The food was excellent and the service on the food could not have been better. We also took the suggested wines by the glass. Both this dinner and the India dinner, they are unable to bring the wines when they bring the food. The wine typically arrives mid-way through the course or later. Seems like the wine should arrive right before the course is served, not after.
We had attended a banquet earlier and loved the food. Decided to celebrate a birthday. 5 of us had 4 different menu items and all were excellent. Server was enjoyable. Student servers were polite. Setting was acceptable. Company was fantastic. Overall a great night out in an unhurried atmosphere.
New Spring Menu not for all
We have dined at the class act several times, most recently for New Year's Eve and Valentines Day. Our last two experiences were great. When we chose to celebrate my husband's birthday there recently, we encountered a new menu which may be very pleasing to people who are looking for novel menus items like rabbit and guinea hen, but were not choices we would make. We both chose a pasta and scallops dish which was fine but not exceptional. The mixed berry salad was very good. Desserts were lovely. I would especially recommend the raspberry and lavender sorbet. Service was excellent and friendly. Price seemed a bit inflated compared to the special menus for our last two visits.
Really enjoyed the India dinner
Really enjoyed the India dinner
Every course for the World Culinary Tour Indian dinner was nicely spiced. We enjoyed them all from appetizer to dessert! The Watermelon Curry was especially unique.
I've attended 3 culinary dinners, all fabulous flavors, elegantly displayed. Each dish left me excited for the next. Jon, our server, is extremely professional and friendly, adding to our dining pleasure. I highly recommend Class Act for special occasions.
Not Worth the Price
The Class Act seems to market itself as a "Foodie Find". We were unimpressed with the food offerings and execution. What sounded good on paper was disappointing to the palette. Food was about room temperature. The service and atmosphere were both adequate. We likely will not return, but thought it was worth a try. If you want a real foodie experience, I suggest 126 or similar in Iowa City - there is not much to be had in Cedar Rapids.
Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!
Here for 25th wedding anniversary - a surprise for the wife. Had a private, romantic booth with a silk curtain. Started with humus/olive tapenade which the wife loved. She had artic char - described as a cross between salmon and trout -- wife liked it but said it was more towards salmon. I had beef short rib -- wonderful -- like the best ever pot roast. Restaurant comp'ed two deserts -- chocolate cake for wife, cheesecake for me -- both were great -- even wrote "happy anniversary" in chocolate on the plate. Drinks were top shelf -- yummy. Service was attentive but not overbearing -- gave us privacy. Entire hotel and restaurant decorated with art from Iowans. This is a teaching hotel and restaurant. One of the best kept secrets in Cedar Rapids -- a must for higher end dining experience. P.S. First time using Open Table -- reservation went without a hitch!
Culinary night us literally "out of this world" superb. The preselected menu allows its patrons to enjoy delicious flavors from other countries one may never have the opportunity to otherwise enjoy. Their balance of spices is unique, cooked to perfection!! My friend and I plan to enjoy many future dinners. Thank you Class Act.
Without a Greek restaurant in town, this was a MUST for me, and I wasn't disappointed.
We really did not care for your place. It was our first time there. The food was not pleasant, service was lacking. Thanks.
Memorable Anniversary Brunch
1st the staff was excellent very attentive and friendly. Taking out my mother to a restaurant can be hard, she prides herself as a cook and is hard to please so can get demanding when ordering. I wanted to take her out of her home cooked element and try something new. I think she was quite pleased with the overall experience. It was my parents 55th on Feb 14,the Web site showed a birthday desert which I thought would be nice as an Anniversary surprise so I preordered that, the restaurant gave us that complementary now that's a CLASS ACT for sure. I think they thought 55 years together was deserving of that. Unexpectedly we had to add our not quite 2 year old grand daughter to our party and they were accommodating for that, she was good by the way.She was very excited about her pretty fruit bowl.I have to say we all finished our food with just 1 complaint, none of us cared for their style of hashbrowns, but still it was an overall sucess.WE WILL BE BACK. Thanks to the CLASS ACT for a very picture worthy and memorable enjoyable Anniversary brunch.
Valentines dinner night
We arrived a bit early and I checked in for our party, telling the front desk we would be sitting at the bar. Our time came and went. We finally went to check with the front desk to ask why we weren't seated yet. They indicated they didn't know we were there. It was not busy and my group of 4 were the only ones sitting in the Bar area. That didn't seem right that we were overlooked but we were seated right away. Once seated our server was there and took care of us very well. She was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and wanted to make our dinner enjoyable. The food was good. Nothing too special but good. It is a great place for a special occasion/date night.
This was a great dinner and a great setting. Enjoyed this very much!
Service and food end a very nice atmosphere
The atmosphere was much warmer than the food we were served and the attitude of the server. The shrimp bisque was very good but the goodness of the meal and the experience stopped there. Salad was just ok. The main course was at best luke warm and the scallops rubbery. Quite possibly the most uninvolved, uncaring, unattending waiter we have ever experienced. Asked only once if we wanted something to drink. We had to ask to have bread tbrought to our table. He did not pay attention to how each of us (2) asked to have our steaks cooked and gave us each other's steak we didn't realize until several bites in. He dropped off the check without saying thank you, happy Valentine's Day, thanks for coming in or any grunt of civility. Hopefully he doesn't rely on monetary tips for income because he deserves none. I don't think I have ever only tipped 10% and that was generous for his actions, or lack thereof.
A hit and Miss
My wife's meal was excellent, Shrimp with jasmine rice. My meal of Alaska Char was overcooked, the fish was dry and the legumes served as a side were burnt to a crisp. They did comp our desserts, but someone needs to check the plates before they go out. Especially since their reason was that a student cooked my meal. When you go remember that it is a "teaching" restaurant first.
I have dined at the Class Act several times. I have had lunch there with friends, taken my boss there for a business lunch, Sunday brunch with family and romantic dinners with my husband. Every meal has been delicious and the service is always top notch. One of the best places to eat in Cedar Rapids!
Kirkwood Gem in Cedar Rapids
Fresh and unique menu. Food was wonderful, and we enjoyed the plate presentation. Modern yet comfortable dining atmosphere. Wait staff was excellent! We will come again and highly recommend to others!
The special events here are a treat!
We participated in the World Culinary Tour with this experience hitting Morocco. Each of the 4 courses was delicious and unique. We enjoy trying things off the beaten path and this was truly a wonderful experience. The Class Act staff consists of professional chefs and culinary students, and we found that the presentation of the dishes and taste was excellent. We will return for one of the future World Tour stops!
The food and service was excellent. My venison medallions were delicious.
Good menu, beautiful & comfortable setting,.
Mixed opinions on roasted vegetables; squash starter undercooked and flavor didn't mesh with sour cream/dill dressing. House salad - great. Beef rib done to perfection, very tasty but was mostly fat and, of course, bone. Accompanying roasted vegetables, potatoes, carrots were black or burned while still being hard and undercooked. We like this dining spot and will return because we like the idea of it, want to support it and we know each visit will be different. We love the innnovative menu, which rivals the fine restaurants of many major cities. Only four tables had diners, while the wait staff was friendly and helpful, we thought the kitchen staff was a little slow but the presentation made up for the wait.
Great Christmas Eve
Our family went for a Christmas Eve dinner and it was fantastic!

We always have delicious food and great service at The Class Act. It's one of our favorite places to go in Cedar Rapids.
Great restaurant - love the decor!
We often forget about Class Act since it's WAY out by Kirkwood. Every time I go, I think.. I need to come here more often and support the students as they learn their skills. It's a beautiful venue and my salad was yummy!
Excellent, fresh food and great service! Went for the brunch but will definitely return for dinner. Highly recommend!
43rd wedding anniversary
We were celebrating our 43rd anniversary had reserved the table with the curtain. When we arrived, we were shown to that table and the atmosphere and service was great. I usually don't order smoked or slow cooked meat because I never get anything as good as my own BBQ. However, I did order the smoked pork and it was great. Would order it again and that's quite an accomplishment for the Class Act. The Chef stopped by our table and had an interesting "cold smoke" conversation with him.
This is a really cool gem that was unexpected but a total treat. It truly is run by a group of young chefs who are really excited about food. The menu was interesting and inspired. I really loved it b
The food was subpar and were out of the main entrees we wanted to order. Very disappointed in the food quality.
A great restaurant overall
I was very impressed with everything. The food was excellent and interesting. The ambience was classy and contemporary. Service personnel were friendly and well trained. I have travelled all over the world and this restaurant is as good as any.

Delicious food, excellent! Pheasant breast was swesome!
I really enjoyed the meal but our main server was not personable at all. I did not see her smile once or say "thank you" or "you're welcome". I think I would only go back if she was not my server. Like I said, our meals were excellent (compliments to the COOKS) but the female server was quite unpleasant.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE evening.
Dinner was beyond words, and the staff was absolutely incredible. The chef even came to the table and explained some menu items and recommended some things, and not a single thing was disappointing.
We went here for our 11th wedding anniversary and were surprised to be given the admirals table. Service from Mikayla was first class and the rest of the staff were awesome. The food was great and we would highly recommend the mixed grill as an entree. To end out the night we were informed that due to it being out anniversary we would great a free dessert each! We were already stuffed from dinner so opted to share one. I would highly recommend the resteraunt and we will be back there in the near future.
Enjoyed first visit
I had the Mixed Grill entree and my girlfriend had the Sea Bass. Both were really good. We also had the pumpkin dessert, we we enjoyed. The host helped take our order as the waitress was pretty busy. Good job by him to pitch in where he saw fit.
Fun night out with friends!
We had a great dinner at The Class Act. There were 6 of us in our party and each us had a meal that was delicious and unique. The salads were especially nice with fresh mixed greens and tomatoes and peppers. The service was quick and attentive. All the wine/drinks we had were very nice as well. Oh - and of course…we had to split some desserts between all of us. The brownie sundae was quite the hit! Thanks for a great evening!
Multi Generational Brunch
This was the perfect place for a multigenerational brunch. The menu had variety and it was quiet enough for those with hearing aids. Just right.
Great place for a romantic night.
Great bar, food and atmosphere. The staff was very attentive but the kitchen needs to keep the chatter and laughter down. When you have an open floor plan like this you need to be aware of the patrons.
