Terrace Bistro at The Ellis Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Horrible Easter Brunch
Went for Easter Brunch and was terribly disappointed. We sat outside since the dining area (hardly a dining room) was extremely hot. Asked for coffee - they had to go make it. Asked for silver ware set up - had to go find them ourselves. Brought the coffee and then had to go find some sugar and cream. All this within the first 5 minutes, we should have left then. The buffet was limited, not bread at all (this was brunch, but, no muffins, bread, bagels, or anything). Had to ask for bagels to go with the smoked fish. Waitress had to go find some and then get them toasted. i had to find someone to come make the omelet. Salads looked tired. We left without ordering the entree. Worst dining experience I've had in years - wasted $30/pp
Theatre night dinner
Friends and I were looking for a place for dinner close to the Rialto Theatre - on Feb 13. I have dined many times at the Terrace at Ellis - and made a reservation there. Reviews I read complained about poor service, but we arrived a few minutes late for a 6:30 p dinner, and I told our waiter we needed to be at the Rialto by 7:45. He indicated that would not be a problem, and it was not. Dinner was delicious, the service was really great, and we had a very nice experience once again at the Ellis. I will certainly go back!
We were there for the SEC championship game on the weekend of December 5, 2015. They were totally understaffed and even ran out of some menu items. It took 3 hours for us to get served and eat. The sparse staff they had were unruffled and were very apologetic.
Under staffed, not ready for us
Our reservation was for first thing in the morning. The men who waited on us were kind and helpful, but I believe they were replacements called in at the last second. Our server was winging it the best he could, and the restaurant was not set up for us when we arrived.

It had good reviews so I booked a table for lunch with a colleague. Although it was cold out (40ish), they put us outside on the (all-weather?) porch. It was cold (my colleague kept her coat on the whole meal) and the sun was in my eyes the whole time (there were not any blinds). The food was OK but nothing special. Our waiter was very friendly but not the best waiter. When we left, I noticed that there were open tables inside and was a bit irritated that we were not offered one. I am not from Atlanta but if I go back, I will not go to the Bistro again.

I had a reservation for 10 people for a work lunch. The host was completely disheveled running around when we arrived and the dining room maybe had 3 parties total. He quickly and rudely took us to the wrong table outside to which after I corrected he took us back inside to our reserved table. It was only set for 8 so we had to pull extra seats and squeeze in. This severely altered my dining experience as I was tasked to set up this work lunch for several senior colleagues. The server we had was great and the food was good but then the check took over 15 minutes to come to the table after we were already finished eating. Overall I was expecting a much more professional experience from the Terrace knowing how upscale the Ellis Hotel is, and was disappointed with the service.
Good staff/ good food
Valet parking is five dollars, but it's a small price to pay for brunch buffet perks. Like the omelets and oatmeal. I take my time and take it all in. Very friendly staff and the omelet table is always on point.
We dined at this restaurant during restaurant week eating from their fixed menu. We were seated inside by choice but in close proximity to the bar which was noisy although noone was sitting there. The food was good. The steak I ordered was cooked to my specifications and tasted good. The service was a bit absent. We would go long periods without being attended to by our waiter. The restaurant felt more like a hotel lobby which may be appropriate since it is in the Ellis Hotel. I wI'll not return to this restaurant as there are many better options in the ATL.
Understaffed, slow service
Went on a weeknight before a show at the Tabernacle and there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and apologetic, but just wasn't able to handle all the tables. The restaurant simply sat too many parties all at once without the staff to handle everyone. Busboy appeared annoyed when I asked him for another basket of bread and just looked mean. Food was good and well-prepared, though.
We were very disappointed with our brunch.
We had booked our brunch weeks in advance and invited guests. While the staff were friendly, the dining room was shabby, the food was less than special, and the service was slow. Compared to other restaurants where we have had brunch, this was very uninspired. The brunch was not expensive compared to other restaurants, but the offering was much less varied and tasty. We felt sorry that we had made the wrong choice for brunch and we do not plan to return.
Waste of time
I thought this would be a good experience but boy was i wrong. It was hardly busy yet we had terrible service. We never got napkins because they were "being washed." We had to wait to order food and drinks and even get water. Our server forgot drink orders so that we went to the bar to get our own, then found out she still charged us for the one we never got (the manager did later fix that). The food was mediocre so we left after our 3 appetizers.
Worst service received for automatics gratuity
From the moment my party of nine walked in, we received bad service. When I said I had a reservation, the host brusquely informed me that we would be sitting outside. He took us to the table, a high top with uncomfortable chairs, but didn't even bring us menus. It took 5 minutes to receive menus, at least 15 minutes to order drinks, over 30 minutes to receive our drinks, and we'd been there 45 minutes before the server took our appetizer/food order (even though I twice informed the server that we were ready to order and wanted apps). We were brought bread and butter, but no plates or silverware. We ordered three appetizers that were barely warm when they arrived and we still had to ask for silverware and plates when the appetizers were brought. Two mixed drinks we received had zero alcohol in them. One of our party waited over 45 minutes to receive his sweet tea, after asking for it multiple times, and never received a single refill. After one of the times we asked about his tea, the server stated they'd run out and had to brew more. When the entrees arrived, they were cold, too. Overall, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, made worse by the fact that we were charged 20% gratuity due to the size of our party, which came out to about $71, which was not the value of service we received. I feel that the server, knowing his tip was automatic, ignored us for other tables. I will never eat at Terrace Bistro again and I will tell all my Atlanta friends to avoid this restaurant.
Healthy food that tastes great!
Flavorful quality food with an emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients. Quiet and pleasant atmoshere with knowledgable and professional servers. I hope they enjoy much success.
Great place for lunch.
Great place for lunch. Slightly difficult to have a conversation for a business lunch due to other conversations in the restaurant.
This Place refused my Open Table Dining Check
Disorganized. One server says there is no coat check, another comes and takes our coats. The food was passable, our actual server attentive. Totally clueless as to what an Open Table Check was. When i asked for the manager, he said they didnt sign up for "that part of the program." Ended up putting there whole charge on my credit card. The host at the desk couldn't work the phone to even call the number on the check. Never had an Open Table check refused before. I hope sincerely that there isn't a class of restaurants that only participates in part of the program. EXTREMELY disapointing.
Love how fresh everything tastes!!!
Love how fresh everything tastes!!!
The food was good and prices reasonable. The outdoor area was heated so sat there and was comfortable. Service was great.
The food was ok, but not good enough to recommend. Pretty plain. Service was good and friendly.
The restaurant service is very friendly and helpful. I had the scallops which were excellent. Our guests had the trout which was also very good. We finished with a delightful crepe brûlée.
tried a new salad - the kale ceasar - it was yummy. will be back for it again. keep up the great work. perfect for a leisurely lunch especially since service is frequently very slow.
Need to learn about service
The food is good ... stopped going before because the service is so bad. Tried again and still horrible service. Arrive at 11:55, finally got our food at 12:50 ... they were not very busy at all, but only two servers. Could not even get a refill on tea. Had to flag someone down. Server never even visited the table during the almost an hour wait for food.
My experience has been much
My experience has been much better on previous visits. I liked it much better when it was on the 2nd level. Not a fan now that they have moved down to the street level. Completely changed the ambience.
Not what it used to be
We ate at this restaurant a year or so ago and had a pleasant meal out on the balcony overlooking Peachtree. We were surprised this time to be shown to a small area that felt and looked more like a cafeteria than an expensive, hotel restaurant. The food was OK, but not as tasty as we remembered from our last visit. It will be our last visit.
Good Pre-Rialto Theatre Dinner
The food was good but not exceptional. The outdoor patio area is cool and even heated very well in the winter. It's a good spot to have dinner before seeing a show at the Rialto.
Good food but disappointing service
Food was great, but we waited over an hour. When our food came, it came one at a time, spread out over 10 minutes. There were only 6 of us.
Not the Destination it Used to be
I planned for some out of town friends to meet me at the Terrace Bistro, because I had tasted the chefs creations at a reception before this restaurant had a reputation of serving local, farm-to-table. While the restaurant says that the menu still is farm-to-table, be sure to note that they have transformed their upstairs dining room into a banquet facility and the dining experience is really that of eating at a Marriott hotel -- not exactly a dinner destination in Atlanta.
Great Little Atlanta Spot
Walked right in no wait, several tables inside or outside in a covered heated porch. Food was great! Wine and bar specials where cheap in comparison to other downtown places.

We went for lunch. It's a little pricey for lunch but worth it since it was very good. Not your usual sandwiches’.....they each had a special twist. We had the Turkey with Brie sandwich and the BLT...both very tasty. I'd recommend this restaurant and will go back.
Was actually open on a Sunday!
No real restaurants seem to be open for lunch in downtown atlanta, stumbled on this place as the first place we could find to grab a bite, ended up being great. Waitstaff friendly, meals were tasty. Good to take a work group to.
We stayed at the Ellis Hotel and the menu for the Terrace looked fine, so why not? The restaurant is really just an extension of the bar and although nice was very poorly staffed the night we were there. It took them a while to find a bottle wine list so we ordered food while we were waiting. Apparently the sequencing threw them off since they completely forgot to order our dinner. After 40 minutes we asked what the hold up was, their response "what dinner?" We left. They comp'd the wine, but this place did not live up - in any way - to our expectations.
The restaurant offers good food and service in a clean, attractive and quiet environment (at least on the one occasion I ate there). The menu is filled with interesting options that make decision making difficult. I will return there in the future.
Not what it appears
From the outside, Terrace looks very charming. It appears to be on the terrace of the second floor of the Ellis Hotel, but when you go inside, you learn that the upstairs is closed and the restaurant is nothing more than 3 tables crammed into the bar of second-rate hotel. Don't waste your time, and don't be deceived by how the place looks from the sidewalk.
Fresh, Farm to Table
Great Farm to Table food. Everything was as fresh as can be. I would bet that the steak I had was slaughtered/butchered that day. Great desserts
Used to Be Great
This was my first time there in a long time. I went because a friend was coming in to town, was staying near downtown, and I remembered this restaurant as really good (been 5-6 times before). Couldn't have been more disappointing. First, the terrace is no longer available for dining. They are reserving it for banquets/special events. The service was really poor. The wait staff seemed confused and uncoordinated. They got our drink orders completely wrong and I'm still not sure who was supposed to be watching our area. At one point, one of them dropped a glass (by the door, no less) and it took longer than 10-15 minutes for someone to come sweep up the shattered glass. And the appetizer? Bland. We left and went to white oak instead.
anniversary let down
First, it would have been nice to know that construction for the Trolley had traffic rerouted and the street was a mess. Second, the outdoor patio is not as romantic as the upstairs terrace, which is only available to rent. Service was good just a little slow and the food was good. The flowers I had ordered were waiting when we got there. That was a plus, but it does not help the fact that the Ritz accross the street has a terrace diner that looks pretty romantic.
Really liked Terrace before remodel
I really like this restaurant before the remodel. The food was and still is good but the ambiance was better. Now it is like a hotel bar restaurant whereas before it was a restaurant that happened to be in a hotel. The patio view was so neat over Peachtree and I just like it a lot better. Breakfast is now a buffet instead on off a menu which was also disappointing (but still good). I would go here if I was staying at the hotel but for the price if I was looking for a good restaurant I would go else where.
Great place to dine
My wife and I went here for our first anniversary dinner, expecting to find a nice, quiet restaurant, and we certainly did! The host was very kind and checked on us multiple times, asked how the food was, the mixer asked how my wife's drink was, and the waitress was very helpful. Our food was straight from the kitchen hot, just like we liked it, and we even received complimentary glasses of wine because it was our first anniversary. We will definitely be back! What a great experience!
Terrace Bistro, A Real Gem
I celebrated a milestone birthday at the Terrace for a small group of family and friends and had a spectacular time.
Disappointment all Around
I met someone here for a business meeting. There were so many disappointments: I had to pay to valet, the food was less than mediocre, and the waitress forgot us... Our drinks were not refilled, we were not asked how the meal was (which was dismal and overpriced), and I had to ask for an itemized receipt, which took 15 minutes.
Not up to Expectations
I usually love Terrace Bistro and recommended it to my boss as a place to take our co-worker who is about to have a baby. on previous occasions I have sat in the upstairs dinng room on on the terrace and has a lovely experience, however not this time. Despite making a reservation, they sat us in the lower level, which felt like an cramped, over flow room, next to two very loud tables and then brought all of us the wrong food and the wrong bill. It was not the special lunch, I was expecting and had recommended and instead we felt like a left over thought. I'm not sure if I would recommend this again, it was not up to par with what I expected. However, food was delicious, despite being incorrect and the server was nice and friendly.
