Tannin Wine Bar and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Great dinner with friends
Saturday visit enjoyed many bottles of wine, our server was very knowledgeable with the wine list and was always there to make suggestions. We were very well taken care of. Recommend the mussels and lobster risotto!!
Tannin is always a treat. Whether stopping in for a quick bite or making a date of it, I'm always pleased. Service is appropriately attentive and each server I've had has been incredibly kind and knowledgeable.

The Wagyu Burger was phenomenal, as was the service!!! M. Orien and Jim make you feel like family....impeccable service!!!
First time diner. It was packed. Not sure how wait staff kept up. Had bacon tacos (it was Happy Hour). One was pure fat (gag) the other was good. The French Fries were the bottom of the sack--all in pieces. We were there 15-20 before end of Happy Hour and didn't get Happy Hour prices. Had to ask. They accommodated nicely. (I tipped well). I'll try it another time--maybe lunch.
Probably my third visit to Tannin. Incredible wine list and great service. Would definitely recommend!
Great service and great food.
Great service and great food.
Great Dining fun
Our server, Jennett, was fabulous. The "guy in the Carolina blue beret" decanted our wine as soon as we arrived which was very thoughtful. We ordered the salmon and the burger-both were delicious. We will definitely be coming back.
Amazing food, would go again
Lobster risotto, need I say more? They had a great wine list and the ambience was perfect for people watching and enjoying quality time with my boyfriend. We both got salads then shared the lobster risotto and pork chop. I NEVER ever order pork chops at restaurants but tonight it sounded good. It was moist, tender, and delicious! Would order again. The food is a little pricey, but worth it for a special occasion. Our tab was right around $100 and we got the food above plus a decent bottle of wine. Service was just a little slow, but once we ordered food came out quickly.
We enjoyed our experience at Tannin immensely. We're looking forward to returning soon and often!
Friendly and attentive
Our server offered great discriptions of cheeseplates. Helped us make a great choice. Waters were refreshed often. Timing between appetizer and meal was perfect.

One of KC's best
Tannin's is a must. Amazing food, amazing wine list, and a great atmosphere. I have been here on a couple occasions and have always left beyond satisfied. I recently took my girlfriend, who was visiting from out of town, to dinner here and she said it was hands down one of her favorite places ever.
Our server, Alex, was great. Very enthusiastic and good sense of humor. Helped us decide on a wine since the wine list is MUCH longer than the food menu. We did the four courses which were well timed and we were never waiting. We didn't feel rushed after we had finished eating. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back.
Small things could make it better
Note: We are harsh critics who don't easily give five star ratings unless the food is very tasty, a good value, and a good experience. For the meal I'm reviewing, we had two appetizers (lump crab dip and crispy pork cheeks), split the 8 oz bacon cheeseburger, and had 3 glasses of wine. Our evening cost right at $100 with tip, which we felt was a little pricy considering we only got one (and the least expensive) entree. The presentation of all of the food was good, and the lump crab dip was nice with the grilled bread. The pork cheeks were very tender, and when you could get a bite with the kimchi, polenta, and pork, it was quite tasty, but there wasn't enough kimchi on the plate to do this for all the pork. While the pork was very tender - perfectly cooked, it was not flavorful by itself. The burger was very good, as were the fries, and half was a perfect portion to finish off a light meal, but it was still a $15 burger, and on par with many $10-12 burgers I've eaten. Wine was good, but we felt the pours were light for $13/glass, contributing to our lower value and overall rating. The place is classy, and service was very professional and in proper doses for us to have a good conversation.
Enjoy it every time I go

Food, service, ambiance
The menu selection wasn't large but varied. Each of the four of us ordered something different and all were very pleased. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive without being interruptive (business lunch). The atmosphere was very nice.
Fabulous Wine Bar!
We had an amazing experience. The food, wine and service was wonderful. We were visiting Kansas City and wanted a fun, romantic yet relaxed atmosphere. The wine list is very impressive, the happy hour specials were great and we had a very knowledge and fun server. We can't wait to go back next time we are in the city!
Went before the opera for cocktails and afterward for dessert. Our waiter, Dan, was knowledgeable and personable. Terrific experience, every time.
Never a disappointment
Tannin Wine Bar is always great. Wonderful and flavorful food and always great service. Certainly not your typical bar food; always fantastic. If I'm going to the Sprint Center, I'm going to start at Tannin.

Great service as usual, and spectacular food!
Had wine, cheese and dessert, waitress was very knowledgeable. We celebrated our 12 yr anniversary. The place was energetic but yet in a quiet way, it has a very sophisticated bar atmosphere. We sat at a rounded off table with dim lighting and some candles, it was a very romantic setting. Unfortunately we had dinner plans elsewhere so we were not able to review dinner but they kindly put Happy Anniversary on our dessert plate. Great place to go!!!
Not Our Style
It would be a nice place for happy hour, but not a full meal. My favorite part of the meal was the cheese plate. It was delicious and had a beautiful presentation. Parking was an issue. The dinners were overpriced for what you get. The service and atmosphere were both excellent.
Could not ask for more
We made our reservation through Open Table and when we got there, they seated us at a high table that was too small for 4 people. The hostess and one of the servers immediately went to work to get a more suitable table for us. We were reseated within 5 minutes! Our server was knowledgeable, and nonintrusive. The food was... well, we ate every bite of it! This place was busy, but we never felt rushed or like we were in the way. Their wine selection represents regions from around the world, and they know how to pair with foods. We will be back!

Great place for Wine & Cheese Lovers
Little pricey...But they food was great and the service was great! We had a really nice waitress!
A Wonderful Experience for the Most Part
We attended the wine dinner on Feb. 25, 2016. It was, for the most part, a wonderful experience. Our only complaint was that the last two entrees were not as good as the first five (which were excellent). The duck was tough and a little overcooked, with the risotto being a little gluey. The cheese entree had too much, though excellent tasting, cheese; too much overly toasted bread and not enough fig marmalade--this would be an excellent dish if there was less blue cheese and a sweeter, smaller slice of just crisp bread. Even with this, the night was very enjoyable and we would come back again.

Very Enjoyable, Daunting Wine List
We really enjoyed Tannin as we have the few times that we've gone. The food is always good, the service is usually pretty good and the atmosphere makes it good for occasions. Although a little more than I want to spend on a daily basis. The wine list is extensive, and a bit daunting - this can be discouraging when your waiter isn't the most helpful to recommend based on food. The only 'wish it was better' from this trip was that it would been nice if the waiter recommended a bit more than just the most expensive bottle on the list we were looking at. It was a good wine, yes, but also felt a bit like a cheap grab since he didn't ask much about what kind of flavors we liked in wine or what we'd liked in the past.
Very cool wine bar atmosphere
Awesome atmosphere, perfect wine bar feel. Great wine list, menu and service. You can't go wrong...
Nice pleasant place with great wine list ...
Nice pleasant place with great wine list. Food choices are a bit bizzarre- like " organic" salmon that isn't" wild caught" - what is that then? Our waitress didn't know. Oysters were over salted , but beautiful presentation! Our waitress was great and the most charming! Read the menu several time before you decide to come! The Wine list and the atmosphere is delightful!
Great "Date Night" Restaurant
We booked a table at Tannin several weeks in advance for the Saturday of Valentine's Day Weekend. Tannin was at the top of our list due to a family member used to be an employee there and spoke highly of it. First, we were glad we made the reservation. It is a smaller restaurant and they were quoting wait times of 3 hours for a party of 4. We did get a little nervous when we noticed one hostess seemed to be looking for places to seat parties of two without consulting a reservations list first. So we were a little worried our table would be given away by accident. As a result we got sat by a table right next to the front door which was less than desirable for a 15 degree evening. Each time the door was opened we could feel the cold air come in. Often times we would find our table kind of crowded with people standing in the waiting area. All that said, everything else about our experience was perfect. The wine list is large enough to merit a table of contents. I am an avid wine enthusiast with multi-hundred dollar bottles in my cellar and even I had a hard time narrowing down what to try. Our server was spectacular, she stayed with us asking what our tastes were and what was sounding good, not just for the wine but for the food and everything else. All of her suggestions were well suited for us, the wine, food, desert (and scotch because I wanted to try something different than my go-to) were all excellent and catered very well to what our appetites wanted. All in all, the seating wouldn't have even been an issue if the weather were a bit warmer and it hadn't been Valentine's weekend. Everything else gets five stars in my mind. I already have recommended Tannin to several people and wont hesitate to recommend it to more.

Our server was very attentive and helped guide us through an appropriate wine selection. He was very patient and friendly with us since my wife and I are not experts in knowing what wines we like to drink. He listened to what we liked and picked great options for us to try. Very helpful. We are big fans of Tannin's and will be telling our friends about this great place to wine and dine. Great atmosphere. Nice and cozy for a wonderful evening out... We will be back again!

The server did an excellent job of addressing my concern about the extreme noise level where they originally intended to seat me. I was moved to the other side of the restaurant and received great service the remainder of the evening. Limited menu. My steak was good.

I would say that the wine is over priced ; food was very good; service was very good; I would say there are better values for the money
We celebrated my B-day on "Friday" 5th February.
We celebrated my B-day on the 5th February, had a table in the back area. A very cozy place, from the appetizers “Winter Beet Salad “, to the wine “Scarpetta Pinot Grigio” a wide selection menu and the main course “Slow Braised Short Rib Brussels sprout, bacon & blue cheese risotto” was awesome. By the way I am not a foodie, I am a wanna be foodie! Once I find a place I love, I stick to it. We were a small group of five, for a few of us were first time guests we truly would come back in a heartbeat. I know I would.
