Sushi Roku - Pasadena Ratings and Reviews

Stunning design, fun environment from the moment you enter as the Sushi Chefs welcome you. Great wine list and service. The food is fantastic.
We love Sushi Roku. The food is consistently good, service is excellent. It had been a while since we'd been there on a weekend night and the place was surprisingly loud, but other than that, it was a great experience, as always.
First time here at Sushi Roku-Pasadena and we like the ambiance of the place. We like Japanese food so we tried this restaurant. Food was great but pricey as most Japanese restaurants.
One of our go-to's in the neighborhood
Always feel welcomed when we eat here. Service is very top notch and the menu selection is creative without being too obtuse. Love the signature Katana roll, spicy edamame, Roku Crudo, spicy tuna hanabi and many other dishes (too many to list out here). We recently dined on a very busy Friday night and both the food and service were excellent. Never skipped a beat. Looking forward to our next visit.
Third time going there and their sushi is just amazing. Great service. Their Thursday night happy hour is just perfect.

First couple times here it seemed average at best, but something has changed. Exceptional service, great atmosphere, wonderful food and drinks!
Horrible quality of fish.
Horrible quality of fish.
We really enjoy this restaurant and come back time and again. The food and cocktails are always consistently good! This is the place we love to go to when craving sushi!
One of the best options in Old Town Pasadena
Sushi Roku is a chain that consistently delivers. Go for the Robata menu. Sake samplers also great. This location sits on a square with social events, movies, concerts etc. Ask for a patio seating. We happened to be there on a mid-week slow night so outside service was also slow. Overall great experience!
Great sushi varieties
Great restaurant located in convenient location. inside or outside dining available. Great service although a bit pricy.
Excellent Food, Outstanding Service!
Came here for my girlfriend's birthday. Both of us absolutely LOVED it! I frequent the Sushi Roku in Santa Monica, which am I also a fan of, but recently moved to Pasadena so figured I'd check out this location. Isaiah and Unis were wonderful and the ambiance is lovely. Considering decorating my house that way :) They also have a great gluten free menu for those of us who are either allergic or trying to eat healthier. Order a Purple Haze (Hot Sake and Chambord Liquer). My girlfriend's favorite. I highly recommend Sushi Roku!
Always a hit.....
This has become one of my regular spots. Located in the heart of Old Town the food is great sushi is always great and they do it right! The only issue is the valet parking. They close early on the weekends and it can make you rush through a totally enjoyable meal.
Great Sushi Specials
As always, a great dinner at Sushi ROKU. They had a number of great specials worth trying (tuna tartare, yellowtail foie gras and others). Really good wine list if you prefer that to Sake.
Overprice, small portions
We are big sashimi eatters, we eat out 2-3 days week for sashimi, we were in the area and heard we should try this, we were disappointed as the prices were very high, for small portion of average quality fish. We ate at the bar and staff was more interested in doing rolls for the dining room then taking care of our our orders, and sadly we there at 5pm and place was 75 empty.
Food good as expected, server unexpectanly poor
I like the menu selection, just dined at their Las Vegas location. Asked for the front lounge area as its cozy, lots of pillows, informal. Our server was unattentive, uninspired, had to be reminded twice to bring flatware, simple task of water refilling seemed a chore. Would I go back? Yes, but less confident that my dining experience would be memorable.
A great treat
Sushi Roku is a fine dining place with prices to match, but service is definitely up to scratch and the food is fantastic. I come here whenever my husband and I want to give ourselves a treat for a special occasion and it rarely disappoints.

Came for the DineLA option for my birthday. I had the sashimi trio for my first course which was so pretty and tasted very good! My friend had the trio from the farm and that was very good as well. My second course I had the 5 piece sushi and OMG I was so happy I chose this! Every single piece was so good and unique. The sauces they used in each piece of sushi really accentuated the fish and made it taste great. My friend, on the other hand, had the free range chicken and that was just ok; nothing compared to the sushi...but hey that's why they're called SUSHI Roku. The dessert was such a surprise! Our server was so wonderful! He combined our desserts onto 1 single plate and wrote happy birthday! It was a very nice gesture on his part and we really appreciated his hard work!
The menu is varied and the food is excellent. It is expensive but several dishes are well worth it. The Chilean sea bass is prepared in a unique way and the sushi and sashimi are fresh and tasty.
I give them an A+
Love this place! Love the food and ambiance! Great for a date night or a group out celebrating. I give them an A+
Not so good
We come here many time and the past two times were not as good as it used to be. Especially the very last time. They were way under staff. We had to wait 15 min. to get our water. After 25 min we got our first sushi and it was a wrong order. We had to wait another 10 min for someone to come to our table to tell them it was a wrong order. They replaced it but no one, said anything like sorry your order was wrong. Then the appetizer came as the last part of the dish. overall it was not good at all.
The restaurant is very nice, low lighting for a more romantic feel. We arrived earlier than our reservation time and were seated early. We were seated at a table where the lighting felt like we were being interrogated. We asked the waitress if we could be moved, but she said that there were no tables available. Even though there was one open right next to us. But she said they were reserved and said we couldn't move. So we had to speak to the manager and were eventually moved. The manager was very respectful and offered a free appetizer for having to move tables twice. Overall the food and table service was very good. Everything was cooked perfectly and definitely went home full. The restaurant is more on the expensive side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion like an anniversary.
quality still stays high
We have been eating at Sushi Roku Pasadena for many years. The decor is wonderful; the service attentive and the food is always outstanding. The sushi chefs always have something good up their sleeves so be sure and ask for the chefs' specials. Our favorite, Hamachi with diced chiles, never fails to astound us.
Pasadena' best Sushi House by far....
I love dining here..... the service is always good. The chef's excellent and the sake tasty. I don't think I have ever had a bad dish here. My better half and I visit it regularly. The hostess know where we like to sit. The servers are all knowledgeable and can help you order when you are in doubt. Try it and I am sure you will like it.
Inovative and creative. The food is outstading. Try the Seared ALbacore Sashimi , the Yellow Tail with Diced Chiles and the Hanabi. The Chilean Sebass is to die for. For rolls, my favorite is the Katana Roll and the Crunchy Spicy Tuna. Best server ever - Mike Matsuo
I was disappointed in the portion of food.
I was disappointed in the sashimi portion and the sushi recommended. The Shrimp Japanese spice chips were out of this world and never a disappointment. But $65 plus a $13 tip for 4 tiny tuna sashimi $12 and the tiny tuna jalapeños rolls were too pricy for the portion $17. I've been there so many time by far this was the worst. The service was excellent and the ambiance was superb.
Dinner with my daughter
My daughter felt like sushi, so we went to Sushi Roku. I ordered the crab fried rice and creamy rock shrimp. Both we very good! My daughter loved her sushi as well. We have dined here before and really enjoy the restaurant. The only issue is it is very expensive for what you get. Our meal for the rice, shrimp and sushi (we also had 2 softdrinks) was about $65!
Great Ambience and Food but Slow Sushi Bar
We ordered the filet mignon to share and two sushi rolls to start and never received the rolls until we asked about them an hour later. Other than that, the filet was great and the ambience was great. We were bummed though, because my wife has been going through chemo and has not been able to eat sushi so we chose Sushi Roku specifically for the sushi.
Wonderful Birthday Celebration
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted kindly and several people wished my co-worker happy birthday. The bento lunches are delicious and plentiful. We also enjoyed the complementary pumpkin cheese cake. The dessert chef wrote happy birthday on the plate and our waiter kindly sang with us. The service and cuisine made for a near perfect experience.
We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday. We chose to sit outside because there was a band. However they were so loud we could not hear one another. Next time will sit inside as it was so beautiful. Our first visit and we were not disappointed. It was nice how the food was spaced out and not delivered all at once. It was fun to think you were done and then boom, another plate is delivered. Thanks for an awesome experience. Can't wait to come again. Very reasonable prices.
Everything great but the high-end fish
The service and atmosphere were wonderful and what I expected from a moderate to high-end sushi restaurant but unfortunately, their sushi was not what I expected. It was so bad I had to spit it out in my napkin because the quality of their toro (fatty tuna) was very sinewy and tough to chew through. The more expensive salmon was equally poor quality and not worth the price. My recommendation is to stay away from their high-end selections and you won't be disappointed. Their standard eel hand roll with avocado was excellent.
I dine here pretty often and love it, especially their Sushi Chefs. We always sit at their sushi bar, so most of the chefs know us and are really friendly. Their sushi is always fresh and tasty.

We had lunch at Sushi Roku and they had a great variety of food for the non-sushi eater as well as great sushi for the sushi lover. Their sake choices were great and the staff was incrediable friendly. We will definitely dine at Sushi Roku again!!

Came here frequently, with friends and other time with my dates. I'm usually satisfied with the food and service here. I had dinner here again last night and it was great, more importantly, we had the best waiter, he's really my favorite. This is the second time in a row that he was the server when I came in. Our server's name is Lance. I told him that I don't usually write reviews, but I will do so because of the service he had provided last time and last night. He's super friendly, helpful, professional, courteous and attentive. Although I'm a frequent diner here, but I would still asked him for any good recommendations and he sure delivers great service and recommended a few delicious dishes for us to try last night. Food was 4 stars but the quality service from Lance made this a 5 star experience. :) He was so thoughtful, even even sealed the night with a sweet treat, this man, deserves a Raise. Excellent customer service. No doubt, I will be back again.
