Service was terrible

vip
Dined on April 23, 2016

I use OpenTable all the time to find great restaurants in cities when I'm traveling. I read that this restaurant was good and that they have all you can eat sushi which I love! My husband and I met up with 2 of our friends and it was such terrible service. We opted for the all you can eat sushi. Our entire dinner lasted 3 hours and I asked 3 different times for a specific type of sushi (Masago) and still never received it. None of the specialty rolls were on the AYCE list and there was a ton of rice compared to the actual fish. We also did not receive several other rolls and nigiri throughout the evening. Maybe if you eat here on a Thursday at 5pm it might be a different story but I would not return here.

It was just ok. Nothing special about their food. Not authentic Japanese food.

Awesome sushi

Dined on March 23, 2016

We loved the himachi sashimi in particular as well as the red dragon roll and spider roll. The service was excellent, the fish was fresh, tasty and generously portioned. We'd recommend and we will return when back in SF.

Dined on February 21, 2016

I had the all you can eat sushi for $30 and it was great! Definitely worth the money. The fish was good quality and the rolls weren't too heavy on the rice (like most all you can eat places do). The appetizers were really good too (seaweed salad, miso soup and gyoza were bomb). I went around 3pm on a Sunday so it wasn't very busy and everything came out fairly quickly, considering it was all being made fresh to order. Overall great experience! I will be going back.

Bring your hunger and keep your night open

Dined on February 7, 2016

Really fantastic value for all you can eat. We ate so much, it borders on insanity. The only thing I would say is that the waitress was good at avoiding us for the next round of all you can eat. She was probably just trying to pace us, but it worked against her. We were there for about 3 or so hours and had close to 50 rolls between the 4 of us. Great time!

Poor sushi + service

Dined on September 27, 2015

Sushi Hunter is the only place that offers all you can eat sushi however, it was not to my satisfaction. I understand for most all you can eat places, the quality isn't that great but I was expecting a bit better from Sushi Hunter. First of all, the rice was packed poorly in all the sushi rolls and nigiri that I had. It was soggy and didn't taste fresh. The sushi itself did not taste fresh. The staff was not as attentive since there were not too many waitresses taking care of the tables. What turned out to be an hour dinner went to 3 hours because we were primarily waiting on the sushi. I would rather pay more for good sushi than all you can eat sushi. Quality means more to me than anything and I'm a bit disappointed that Sushi Hunter didn't get anything right. Not even down to their miso soup and edamame.

Not a very good experience. They said they did not have our Open Table reservation, but squeezed us in nonetheless. Very bad service. Not attentive. Difficult with all-you-can-eat by order. Loud but probably unique to having two large parties there with us. Mediocre food. Eatable but not good. Sushi chef cannot pack rice.

Great Experience!

Dined on June 11, 2015

We had a party of 12 as a surprise party for my boyfriend's birthday dinner and the wait staff was AMAZING. We did the all you can eat menu and they ordered a bunch of plates for us to start with of their most popular dishes. Everyone was really satisfied. They were great about refilling drinks and bringing out more food as we requested. I will definitely be back! I forget our waitresses name but she was so sweet and very attentive. Really great experience!!

Love the place, seated nicely. Cosy setting. The only problem is food came really slow and I had to re-order several times because some items didn't get to our table even after the second time ordering.

Eat Drink Enjoy

Dined on September 27, 2014

Sushi Hunter was an absolute blast! For 40 dollars you can get unlimited sushi and saki! And it's not like they have slow service. As soon as we ordered for saki or sushi it was out very quickly! They allowed are group to have a blast and enjoy ourselves. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking to eat good sushi and saki. It is a perfect spot to go pregame with friends before a night out in North Beach.

Great for large parties

Dined on August 19, 2014

I initially booked for 12 people on a Monday night with no problems. It also wasn't a big deal when we had to call & change the total to 9 after a few drop outs. We ordered ala carte and paid more than we would have for the all you can eat option but after reading reviews regarding the quality of the all you can eat we decided to go with individual rolls. Friendly staff and service all around.

Dined on May 11, 2014

If its all about the food, then this place is great. Great Toro, great Salmon belly sashimi. The ambience leaves a lot to be desired. It's not the type of sushi place where the sushi chefs welcome through the door with a vibrant welcome in their native language, but the food is really good so you may not care.

Very good all-you-can-eat sushi!

Dined on March 23, 2014

Very good sushi, without the wait. Great for groups. They have an all-you-can-eat option (currently $28 on weekends, $25 on weekdays), which has a fairly lengthy list of appetizers, nigiri and rolls to choose from. The sushi is made to order vs. being a buffet style, so the sushi is always fresh. Their menu also had lots of additional a-la-carte options. If you like something a little spicy, I particularly recommend the Devil roll -- it was surprisingly delicious!

We had made reservations based on previous comments. Was a nice restaurant, comfortable and uncluttered. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Only drawback was that their internet was down so we had to pay with cash. We were prepared for that but may have impacted other would-be diners.

I've been here for 2 of my birthdays already and each time, it has been a delight. The all you can eat option is always my fav. The staff is extremely helpful if you're not sure what to order, but everything is good on their menu. Try the Hamachi Kama - we had to order a 2nd one because we loved it so much!

good place to dine in north beach

Dined on April 20, 2013

We really liked our food and the service was very nice and we had a good time. We like the openness of the dining room. The only downer was that the dining room was 90F and it's not great eating sushi in extremely hot rooms. We've been there before and it seems like we always go on Friday nights which is always packed and the noise levels can be quite high. But complements on the service. That I most appreciated. Keep that up and we'll be back again!

Dined on February 7, 2013

The menu is extensive with variety of good Japanese food (both sushi and traditional dishes). Happy Hour is reasonably priced and a very good value. The all-you-can-eat option is also a very good value with a variety of menu options. We didn't eat off their regular menu. However, it appeared also to be a good value. We went on a Wed night and it was not very crowded. I can figure out why. I would recommend Sishi Hunter and plan to go back again.
