Sunnyside Ratings and Reviews
A quiet Monday night during the off season and the food was delicious. Great new menu items which were a different preparation of their standard basics. Portions are much bigger than our last visit. Service was attentive and at our pace. We look forward to returning.
West Shore Fav
Sunnyside has so much to offer- casual dining at the bar or less casual in the dining room. Ordered the special lamb and it was amazing! The portions are generous, the view is gorgeous .....YOU HAVE TO GO, Sunnyside is the Best!
Good Food, Mediocre Service
Food had gone downhill at Sunnyside. Decided to give it one more try. It was very good. But their winter menu is pretty limited. Our waiter must have been new because he wasn't very attentive and it was hard to get his attention.
Great food and views
Had the Elk dinner and the beet salad that were both fantastic and then finished off the meal with Hula pie. What a great way to celebrate my birthday.
Lake Tahoe front and center
Sunnyside is always a treat. Wish the brunch was a bit more inventive (it used to be), but the view never disappoints. It's a family tradition, so hope for something a bit more special next Easter. Love the egg hunt!

Uneven service. When we arrived 2 people at desk ignored us for 5 minutes. Awkward standing there at the host station while the manager and presumably the owner ignored us. Nobody even said hi the hostess will be here shortly. I almost left and went to another place. Ordered the special which cost $28 when bill came the charge was $30. They did correct the bill but overall not as good service as I have received before.
Over the top Service
We really enjoyed our dinner at Sunnyside. The food was great and our server was really good. After dinner, we ordered their famous Hula Pie to go, and then realized we didn't have any silverware back at our hotel. The hostess was so nice and offered to let us take some spoons back with us and trusted us to bring them back. So glad she did because the dessert was delicious!!!!
This is a great place to go for a great dinner or other while at Tahoe. Holiday dinners, family events, etc.
I was very surprised how good Sunnyside was as my expectations were low given it's location from a major city. I had not been in this area in over 8 years and I was very happy we dined here. It has great views and very good food. Our waitress Patti C. was very attentive and helpful. I would definitely come back here if in the area and I heard from friends that it was a very good place to stay. Thanks for a nice dinner.
The view is the highlight of the evening. The waiter was super in his timing and very helpful with our food selection!
Just liked we hoped
We took friends to Sunnyside to show them how beautiful Lake Tahoe is. The view and decor are great and we really enjoyed our dinner. Everything was very good.
First time for dinner Always a fun scene
Food exceeded expectations and we had an excellent waiter.
Excellent choice for fine Tahoe dining!
Delicious food in an enjoyable atmosphere! The Steelhead trout was to die for, as were the zucchini sticks! Our service was also spectacular.
Winemaker night at Sunnyside
To celebrate a big wedding anniversary my husband and I spent several nights at the Sunnyside Resort. We dined twice in the Lakeview Dining Room and twice in the less formal Grill. Every meal was consistently delicious and served with charm. Both rooms overlook Lake Tahoe. The Calera winemaker dinner was especially great, with chef's special paired food choices. On the regular menu, try the scallops. Yummy!
Still love Sunnyside!
Beautiful views, pleasant mountain decor and a very friendly and attentive service. As with all Tahoe restaurants, the food quality is not always reliable. This summer we had some excellent food here, but this time it was not as memorable. Nevertheless, we still love coming here and will continue for years.
I wish it were better...
In all fairness, it was a busy holiday week and the restaurant was swamped. Our scallops arrived barely warm. The corn fritter served with the trout was deep fried to a burnt degree and even the manager said it looked inedible. I won't order the lobster dumplings again as they were 3 tiny bites that weren't worth the price. Not much dressing on the Caesar salad. We've never gone wrong with the zucchini appetizer or Hula pie for dessert. It might be time to try another place until we regain our trust in the kitchen.
Great meal and ambiance
Went with a group of 7 including a 7 year old. Everyone was satisfied with their meals even the vegetarians in our group. The special short ribs were delicious. My wife and I split a salad, entre and dessert and all were fantastic.
Overall, it's lovely
I had two dinner in this Christmas holiday while I was staying in Tahoe city. My friend was living there, so I reserved the table for Christmas online. In the first night at Christmas Eve, I was not satisfied since we waited for almost 40 minutes to get the main course. I ordered the special of that day, it was lamb. While I saw the rare lamb, I had to ask the waiter to get it back and cook again. My son just had a small bite of burger. I had to say the service was excellent. On the second night in Christmas, it was better. I came about 5:30pm while I reserved the table for 6pm. My friend joined us that night. At about 6:20pm, I got a table from a man who was so nice. He helped me to get the table because he saw I can't wait and wanted to order in Mountain Grill, the adjacent place like a bar. I appreciated his help. It was quicker and everything seemed better this night although I still didn't get a surprise from the food. Actually, I did love the dessert, Hula pie. I did love the view outside near the lake. Overall, the experience is good and maybe I will come again.
Sunnyside is always on our dinner list.
We love Sunnyside, we always have dinners there, summer or winter. Constantly fresh and divine meals.
We ate in the dining room and were completely satisfied in every way. It was night in the winter, so unfortunately we weren't able to experience the deck or the view. The food and wine were delicious and our server was friendly and attentive. The prices were on the high side but not out of line, and portions were good sized. We would definitely go back.
Sunnyside is fine. Since it is part of the Chart House chain, the food is mediocre. It is very corporate but the views are very nice. Prices are about what you would expect. There are not many options for dinner in the winter on the west/north shore of Tahoe. This is fine, albeit a bit pricey for the quality of food. Not great, not bad. Just fine.
The Best of Lake Tahoe
We've been coming here since 1982. This time for our wedding anniversary. By far the best food, service and view at Lake Tahoe. Nicki is our new favorite waitress. Ask for her.
Shoulder season.. not at it's best.
Usually Love Sunnyside.. it was OK.. but limited menu as it is shoulder season. We had 7:30 reservations and the nightly special was already sold out!
Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. They were knowledgeable of the menu and wine list which was a plus because it was my first time dining there. The ahi tuna was simply delicious. I had the pork special which was pleasantly moist and cooked to perfection. My girlfriend had the smoked trout and loved it. We started at the bar for drinks and appetizers and found it to be upbeat and lively. Then we sat down in the restaurant and it felt like a completely different place. The mood changed from a vibrant bar to a romantic date with breathtaking views. Definitely will be back !
Chef Robb Wyss has brought Sunnyside to ...
Chef Robb Wyss has brought Sunnyside to a new level of excellence with his creative dishes. Sunnyside is one of my favorite restaurants. The service is great and the staff couldn't be any friendlier.
Expensive but good food
The tab is a bit pricey, but the food is worth it, and the wine list is expansive. The outdoor dining was great with a great view. More comfortable seating inside the sophisticated dinning room. The view of the lake is great.
Had the scallops and heirloom tomato dishes. Both excellent. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Definitely plan to return and would get the same dishes again. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Great service and delicious food
Great service and delicious food
The setting itself justifies your decusui,
Party of four, two ordered trout, one the humungous pork chop and I ordered the scallops (which paled in comparison to the crab risotto). Everyone was pleased, most wine I knew twice retail which is acceptable. Is there a better setting on the lake? But the reason for my accolades is simple, the service. Kevin was our waiter and they just don't get any better, very food/wine knowledgeable, charming and attentive. A very nice evening!
Service was bad
We always go there every year for our anniversary and usually have wonderful service. This year was a different story. The waitress was rude and not very attentive. We never got refills on ours drinks, when the ice water was brought out to us the ice was melted. I am super disappointed.
Sunnyside has been known for fine dining ...
Sunnyside has been known for fine dining. You have lost this with the latest changes to the Labor Day Week End dinner menu. Poor choice if meats just cheap cuts of meat, hanger stake etc. at a price point for this quality if not good... SUGGEST: It was not broke, so why try to fix it at the cost of a VERY POOR Labor DAY DINNER. SEVERAL of us old time and still current customers have not been pleased. Labor Day dinner menu was one of the poorest choices ever offered by the restaurant. We know it is hard to cut costs, just don't do it by creating another poor dinner menu. Cut your over head in other ways than dinner and quality.
Scenic Sunset Dinner
We enjoyed a fabulous dinner while taking in the gorgeous Lake Tahoe views. Our service was excellent and we were guided to delicious choices on the menu. This is a great place to go for a special evening.
Our favorite on Lake Tahoe!
Anyone living or visiting Lake Tahoe must have lunch ( or dinner) at Suunyside. They have a great menu & can't beat the outdoor seating in the summer on the lake ...Devine! The fried. zucchini sticks as an appetizer is a must ... Excellent salads, burgers (I've heard- I'm a vegetarian) & my husbands favorite is the seafood salad!
Delicious Food- great service!
We had a great anniversary dinner. Sean our server was fabulous in many ways! The hanger steak was to do for and so we're the scallops! And do forget the zucchini!!! I'm not big on fried food but they were amazing!
Sunnyside is a classic, can't miss spot for dining. We loved it as did our friends from France.
Oh boy! We had a great meal at Sunnyside! The seared Ahi and Tomato Steaks....yum! Our waiter, Christopher is the best. And the view.....heaven!
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner on a pleasant evening on the deck at Sunnyside. The service was great and the food very good. My wife had the ahi tuna and I had a sirloin steak. Both were prepared well and were tasty and filling. And, you can't beat the view from the deck on a nice evening.
Exciting atmosphere, right on the shores of Tahoe
As you walk passed the darkened hotel lobby, passed the bar and head toward the outdoor patio, the anticipation just builds. As you step out into the sunshine, the cool air and the lively music makes you excited to be there. If you are a visitor to California, the ambiance just makes you wish you could (afford) to live there. My guess is that 2/3 of the patrons are locals of the Lake Tahoe area. Saw lots of couples and families celebrating birthdays, etc. They don't take reservations for outdoor seating and there is no preference for hotel guests so you may have to wait for a table if they are busy (which seems to be every night) but they do have a lot of tables (enough for 200 or more?). The view of the lake is really great and the quality of the food (much improved since the mid '90s when we first went there) is very good. Lots of local brews and a great wine list. The staff is courteous (mostly) and efficient (they all look like they stepped off the pages of a magazine ad). We visited in late August so anyone who was working there just for the summer had garnered enoughexperience to provide good service. The youngest employees weren't as savvy (naturally). I originally reserved a table for our family of 6 via OpenTable for the indoor dining room but switched to the outdoor patio once we checked into the hotel. They couldn't guarantee us our original 6:30 time since they don't take reservations for the patio but they were able to seat us right on time anyway (even though it was a Sunday night). We never did eat at the more elegant dining room but I'm sure it's great during the colder months. Their menu was a bit more formal. All in all a great dining experience. if you are a hotel guest, you may not want to eat there every night as there are many other great dining options within a short 10 minute drive, but you certainly can't beat the convenience. Eat dinner your first night and maybe a lunch or lunch/drinks/bar food during your stay.
2 nights in a row
Loved it so much we went there twice. Kids liked everything on the kids menu. Loved the lobster tamale. Scallops were cooked perfectly.
Nice place to visit but don't need to eat here
Beautiful location. We have been to several of the other restaurants in this group and have always been pleased with the total package. This place has an outstanding view but the food was just not very good. I ordered the Ahi Tuna which was ok but the rice that came with it was tasteless. My wife ordered what was advertised as paella. It looked nothing like any paella we had ever had and was lacking flavor and seafood. I would recommend going elsewhere for a good meal in Tahoe City.
