Straits - Houston Ratings and Reviews
Saturday turned out to be nice day to eat outside after all the nasty rain we've had. It was utterly 1st time here and we all enjoyed. I've already recommended this spot for brunch to others and one will be there this Saturday

Not so great!
This place was pretty much empty for lunch and later on a couple of people walked in. I was very excited after seeing the menu but taste wise everything fell flat. Only saving grace for my lunch was the Roti Prata, which was really tasty. Keeping that aside there was nothing was worth the price. Ambiance and service was very good but not so tasty food is a bummer.
Great Food - Terrible Service
The really enjoyed the meal - the food was of an excellent quality, despite the beef rending being off the menu (this was the prime reason for our trip). The service however, was among the worst that I have experienced. First - they gave me the wrong drink, then they didn't have the rending (she didn't know until 10 mins after we ordered) then she was unable to substitute it on the set menu for anything unless it was the same value as the rending and lastly the check - the first section was correct, I gave my card and then when she returned, the value had increased by $13, it turned out I had been charged for someone else's meal. We got it resolved but still annoying. Lovely setting and food but the server was terrible.
Good food...not so food service
We went to celebrate my husband's birthday and I did mention it in the notes when I was making the reservation. Even then there was nothing special done from the staff side. Food came out quickly but that was it. After that nobody came to check on us. My husband had to go inside to ask for to-go boxes and the waiter handed it to him. The food and ambiance was good but they can do better in service.
Always a great place to meet and eat with friends.
A great mix of dishes for a large of group of friends who will have a mixed preferences. Whether you like fish, chicken, veggie or beef dishes all are good. Plus the sides and cocktails are great.
In town from Dallas for Valentine's
My date & I were in town for the weekend for Valentine's Day & found this little gem for Sunday brunch, before heading back to Dallas. We are both admitted, food snobs, & we were both very impressed & pleased with the 3 dishes we ordered while there & we wanted to actually stay in town a few hours later just to come back again to sample their dinner menu, as they were planning a special, 4 course Valentine's Day dinner. We had the chicken lollipops, corn cakes, and some really tasty, shredded chicken taco that was seasoned to perfection! The pineapple mimosa was very good, and I highly recommend it! Overall great weather that day so we enjoyed our brunch outside on the patio, underneath a cabana on a cozy, inviting couch. Great last day in Houston spent at the Straights. We will seek this spot out again when we return to Houston.

Great food as always, but very slow and disorganized service.
Large sharable plate was small
The large share plate was very small. My husband and I were very disappointed that the large share plate was only big enough for one person. We were actually still hungry after with ate our dinner and opted for fast food. We probably won't be coming here again.
This was the first time we have ever been here and we came for our anniversary. Everything was outstanding and would definitely be coming again. First time for us try this style food and wow it was amazing. Have already referred others to try this place!
Straits Houston, delicious singapore style fare.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service needs some work- too quick to try to move us along/read the menu/make selections/checked too frequently even when we said we were not in a hurry and wanted time to chat a bit. Understandable when the restaurant is very busy, but this was a Monday night and it was quiet. More training needed.
The chicken lollipop has always been and ...
The chicken lollipop has always been and will be the best dish for me. It closely resembles the flavor of "bonchon," if anyone is ever looking for good Korean fried chicken. The fried rice dish with brown rice was also very healthy and delicious. The roti prata with garlic and truffle tasted a little bland initially until the truffles hits you. I've always enjoyed eating roti prata but it felt a little dry, a sauce that can both compliment the flavor of truffle and garlic would be ideal. Overall service was great and the atmosphere there has always been warming and cozy.

Delicious food, fun atmosphere, great location! Gluten free options.
Good was great, staff need to talk to each other
Food was great, service was slow and some starters came out after the main course. I received a call from the restaraunt prior to getting there saying that as I had a party of 5 they would only seat is if two or more people were there. When two of us arrived it turned into a drama to get seated as I was informed the "other" girl gave me the wrong info and then it took forever to get served. Food was great and that was the saving grace
Reliable Indian fusion
Straits is one of my "go to" spots. Basic enough that everyone can find things on the menu that aren't scary and exotic enough that you can expand your palate a bit if you are feeling adventurous. Consistently well-seasoned with reliable service. Love the Pad Thai and the Street Noodles.

1. The food is great. It is not Chinese Singaporean. It is more Indian and Malay 2. We were unable to get separate checks and the waitress refused to take more than 4 credit cards for the bill. That disqualifies the restaurant for any corporate credit card expenses in my book. 3. The drinks are weak and not well made. The waitress was totally not receptive to any complaints.
The food was excellent. My compliments to the chef. The manager came to our table to greet us and even became our camera man. We were celebrating a 30th birthday. We wore Mardi Gras masks and all. Straits had the perfect ambiance to carry out our theme. We all will go again!
The Flat Iron steak is always delicious.

Good but not what it once was
Overall the experience was good but they've changed their menu and gone are many of the dishes that made it a unique place to dine.
Best Asian Fusion Food in Houston
I have travelled to Asia for years and love Singaporean Food! This is the best I have found in Texas. The Pepper Lobster (their take on Pepper Crab) is excellent! Everything we tried was very good and if you have room for dessert try the Apple crumble with the vanilla ice cream. Also, have a Tiger Beer with your meal, I forgot how much I like Tiger! Cheers
good food in a sterile environment
Went for a date night and while I find modern style OK for a cool bar or dance place I am a little old fashion to have it with my food. I felt like I was eating in a cafeteria or on the mess decks from my Navy days. Having said that the service was very attentive and the food was excellent.
Great Fusion Food
With its emphasis on "Singapore Cuisine," Straits really hit the ball out of the park. I saw Indian, Malaysian, and Thai influences in the food, which was incredible. Our server was attentive but not overly so, and the food was perfect for the occasion. My friend and I were very happy with the tapas style dining and found the quantity, quality, and even pricing of the food to be excellent. The ambience was also great for date nights or intimate dinners. Standouts on the menu include the lamb meatballs, vegetable spring rolls, Brussells sprouts, and cheesecake egg rolls.
We only had an hour so we did not have time for a long dinner but it felt like we did! The server was always there when we needed something but not in our face. Love ordering several small plates-always hot and fresh. Delicious dinner!
Good w/ opportunity to be great
Excellent food quality & preparation w/ wonderful flavors reminiscent of Singapore & Indonesia. Service was a bit intermittent with food being delivered by different people unfamiliar w/ who ordered what. Timing of food delivery was a bit off too, with two entree's coming before the appetizers were finished and the final entrée being delayed ~10min. Back ground music was a bit load resulting in the noise level being surprisingly high for relatively early on a Sunday evening (~6:30p) w/ only ~20% of the restaurant occupied. During busy times it would be difficult to hear your dining companions w/o having to raise your voice.
!!!..Wonderful Service!!! Delicious Plates!! Thx
!!! I love this Restaurant,!!! Very nice ambient, good foods!!!!Snd excellent Service!!!
Food was delicious, our server was very attentive, will definetly go back. It was a fun experience exploring the Singaporian cusine.
Second Review, great small plates
Small plates are fun, innovative and delicious. Went with our toddler and received very good service. Would recommend to others.
Nice...but too much fat
Our luch was nice, however the quality of the food was dissapointing. The food was containing too much fat.

The Chicken Legs are really great and could be served as a main entry with 8-10 legs
Consistenly Good... service has fallen a little
The food and presentation are consistently good and creative. Service in the other hand, has fallen a little. We sat with our water glasses empty for a long while and had to call for a refill. Their white sangria is still my favorite! See you again soon.
Good food, bad service.
Although I made a reservation for my husband's birthday, the restaurant did not consider that great detail. The waitress seemed like a squirrel that had taken redbull because she answered before finishing our questions and gave us an express service like fast food, she had seemed in a hurry for us to get out of the place. The bar is good, and the food too but the atmosphere is better for youth groups. The place is not intimate and romantic.
I went for dinner with a group of four. We ordered a few small plates and a few large plates to share. It was the perfect amount of food. The coconut fried rice was a favorite, as well as the brussels sprouts. Our server was attentive. The drinks were so-so; our favorite was the white sangria. I would go back for the food.
Creative Food & Energetic Crowd But rushed service
Great Singaporean cuisine, but a bit fast-paced which is okay if you're into that. Went there late on a Saturday evening when the restaurant seems to take on a nightclub atmosphere. The ambiance is hip and contemporary, but I found the service stretched too thin. They were all very busy which made the meal more stressful than I would have liked. The culinary tour is the way to go, just make sure and ask them to pace it and not bring it all at once. The WINE…another issue…we went through requesting at least three wines, all of which they were out of and we ended up with our fourth choice and the manager's involvement. They may focus more on mixed drinks, but this was highly unusual and frustrating as it slowed down getting our wine. You must try this place, just keep the above in mind.
Can't wait to go back ...
From the moment we walked in we knew we made the right choice!!! Attentive service by the lovely Dierdra -- EVERYTHING we had was outstanding. Tuna tartar, a must, pasta with lamb meatballs was super fuel for my long run the next day, outstanding shrimp pad thai ... from start to finish was fabulous!
