Story Ratings and Reviews
The food at Story is always extraordinary. We try to miss their five course wine event dinners.
Best date ever
Ambiance was perfectly romantic, outdoors, jeremy was great server, adam great bartender, and my date went perfectly. Great job. Thanks, KM
Great Meal - and right around the corner.
It's great to know a place in KC where you can count on a great piece of fish, perfectly prepared. Great time on the patio on a beautiful night.
This was our third visit to story and we were pleased with our return. The weather was great so we sat outside on the patio which made for nice ambiance. Food and wine did not disappoint. Recommend the beets appetizer and braised short rib (we had tried and enjoyed both previously). The bisque and veal sweetbreads were unique and yummy and the lemon pudding cake is an absolute must eat! Our server was just ok. I really like when servers describe a dish they are serving to me especially when the plates are unique and a little unfamiliar. Our server was not particularly friendly or informative.
this was my second visit to Story.
Very nice, quick service (we had Opera tickets) and the meal was fabulous. We ate outside which was a very nice touch.
Story is awesome!!!!
The food was fantastic, and the chef even came out to our table to check on us. Great variety of dishes as well!

Nice meal, food and ambience were very good. Great patio.
The lobster tagliatelle was AMAZING. The halibut in brown butter was really, really good as well. Everything we ordered was tasty. Extensive wine list. Service was excellent. We sat outside which was peaceful and lovely. Great find.
Always reliably good food
I usually have seafood at Story and always think the preparation was excellent. This time the server and chef noted or remembered that I have gluten and lactose intolerances and offered substitutions without my request. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Food was good when we finally were served. Waited over an hour after our salad was served before we got our entrees. Service was not on par with price and food.
Dinner was awesome!
Our dinner was awesome, the server was great. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Great food, Excellent Service, high prices
6 of us dined at story, and had a wonderful time. The food is excellent. The service was excellent. However I felt the prices were high. I will go back again as you do get what you pay for. I would probably dine there more if the prices were a bit more reasonable.

Great night at Story as always! Our waitress was wonderful and very knowledgeable! The food great, wine wonderful!
Another Awesome Dining Experience
I have never been disappointed at Story and my last visit was again delightful. Good food, great atmosphere and just a special time!

Fantastic food! Well prepared, thoughtful and elegant. Server was attentive, knowledgable and funny! She also took the time to make sure my husband wasn't served anything that would be contaminated with those foods he's allergic to. Will be back again!
Story is undoubtedly the most interesting restaurant in Johnson County with interesting food even for foodies, great wine, and even a bartender who makes solo diners welcome. The $10 Sunday special is a great value for those on a budget. Nothing like it in KC.
The Sunday special (trout) was amazing!
We usually like to go to Story on Sundays to get some wine, appetizers and try out the special plate. Generally everything is quite good, but I would say the trout last week was one of the best preparations ever!
Our favorite restaurant in Kansas City
I always check the $10 Sunday entree. When it's cioppano, we'll be there. This delightful Italian fish stew is always good. I also enjoy the simple green salad. My only disappointment was the pomegranate sorbet. It was crunchy ice instead of smooth.

Our server was pretty stoic and our fish and steak were seared a little much but the food was decent overall. The cocktails and dessert were excellent.
Really enjoyed the food and the service! Our server was Rebecca and she is great! She even remembered us from the time we were there before. The Wednesday night fried chicken special is a great value and delicious! They also have steak tartare, which is excellent (and hard to find). Wine list is excellent with great variety of types and country of origin.
We visited Story for their $10 Sunday special. Outstanding gnocchi with duck confit this time. We added to that to start a spring arugula salad with goat cheese and finished with a lemon pudding cake. All food was excellent and well presented. Service is attentive and responsive but not intrusive. We love the contemporary ambiance of the restaurant. The food - just great!

Always great. Short rib is highly recommended. Nice wine offerings as well. Consistently good. Nice to have such a fine "neighborhood" restaurant in Prairie Village.

A true experience from appetizer to dessert. The food was perfect and the service excellent. We are truly fortunate to have such a great restaurant in our local area. Well done Story.
Food Amazing - Very Noisy
Food was awesome as usual! Best ceviche in KC, ribeye was amazing as was the halibut. Only complaint - Really loud! We were seated in back and there were two extremely loud tables that made it almost impossible to hear each other. We frequent Story often and will continue to do so however perhaps at an earlier time to avoid the rush.
One of the Best in Prairie Village
We took a couple to dinner last Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed everything we drank and ate. Our server was excellent and the ambiance perfect. I would highly recommend Story to everyone thats looking for a fine dining environment !
Our party of four celebrated my daughter's 25th birthday at Story, one of my favorite restaurants. The meal was almost perfect, but not quite. I and my daughter's boyfriend both ordered the ribeye, and we agreed that, although the steak had great flavor, it was a bit tough. Everything else about the experience was exceptional.
My steak was amazing, but my boyrfriends fish was bland and almost tasted like it was steamed...Waiter coped an attitude when we brought up the fish, but finally everything was corrected with the fish taken back and replaced by the steak...Hopefully in the future this place will be better especially after you pay so much
Truly amazing. Second only to the American.
We are still talking about the meal. Impeccable service, great atmosphere - fast on its way to becoming a destination diming experience.

I freaking love this restaurant.
The food is spectacular - great flavor, presentation, and always surprising in a good way. Service is excellent and always answers our questions about how they cook things or what ingredient makes the cocktail so spicy. Really great place.
It was just OK. The menu was extremely small and everything was overpriced.

Return for anniversary
This was our second visit and because of our outstanding first visit chose Story for our anniversary dinner. Once again presentation and quality were not a disappointment, but a real treat. We had a front window table for two and the rib presentation and taste was excellent. We arrived early and the bartender made us feel welcome. He checked on our table for us after serving our drinks. Table location is essential in this very busy restaurant. The Chef operates at a high level and we will definitely return. Save room for the creative desserts.
The food at Story was absolutely delicious and made us want more. The apple confit desert was divine and just enough to share. Always have had a great experience and can't wait for the Valentine' dinner.
Good, but needs to be $$$ not $$ on open table
Strange review, I never make them, but I would love to eat here in the future, albeit some changes are made. Food tasted amazing, but it was expensive--totally cool with that, but it was marked as $$ on open table...yelp has it right at $$$. Wine bottles that were cheap were 50$ definitely not $$ Got the steak, but it came with practically nothing but it...two bites of veggies and these amazing other things, but it amounted to fall under the category as Steak with no side for me. I actually went and got more food after we left. My wife and I split meals everywhere and we each got our own, so I couldn't believe when I left hungry and we had some bread...before hand. Liquor was crazy prices to me, Sixth Glass was $30 a bottle, and they wanted 12$ for a cocktail and used WL Weller for the whiskey...don't get me wrong, that is what I use at home and its great, but that is a 7$ cocktail whiskey and in a nice place like Story (looked amazing) maybe they get 8...might even try 9 but I would feel like I over paid but might have ordered it. 2-3 of those would by the 1.5 liter of that whiskey. The last thing was the tables were so close together I couldn't hear my soft spoken wife and could only hear the conversations to my right and left...they weren't talking loud either, but I don't think we were but 2ft away on each side. Service was great though, and atmosphere was awesome with some tweaks.
Very disappointed on my birthday
Story has been a favorite of mine in the past, so my husband and I chose it for my birthday dinner. We both ordered the Rib Eye as our main course, and it was the worst piece of beef either of us has ever been served. It was very dry and without flavor. The texture was odd for a rib eye. I ate only a few bites and was surprised the waiter never asked if there was an issue. The veggies that accompanied it were withered and tasteless. I have never been so disappointed with a meal. The beet salad remains a favorite, but does not justify the cost of the meal when that is the only thing I enjoyed.
What a treat!
My husband took me to Story for our anniversary. The decor was modern and interesting, nice artwork. The food was interesting, flavorful, and delicious. The fish choices were fantastic. Love the mushrooms paired with entres. The service was perfect as well. Recommend highly!
Fantastic food and service
We went to dinner with some new friends for the first time during restaurant week. We were a little nervous because many places do not plan accordingly for the increase traffic and food and service can be poorer than normal. However, we were pleasantly surprised that the food and service were top notch as always. We'll be back again soon.
Story for restaurant week
We went to Story for restaurant week. I was a little hesitant because the menu didn't have very many options and didn't seem that interesting. I am so glad we went, because the food was AMAZING. I had the arrugula salad, the mahi mahi, and the brownie. Everything was delicious and the portions sizes were rather large for a restaurant like Story. I would love to go back and try other things off the menu!
