Stone Cliff Inn Ratings and Reviews
Pleasant experience overall
We were first seated upstairs at a rather dark and drafty table, but upon request, were quickly seated comfortably downstairs. The food was excellent for this picky, age sixty-seventy group, the price was reasonable, and we left happy. On past occasions, we have enjoyed the view. Although we couldn't see the river this time, it still was a nice ambiance. Thankyou for this reservation.
This was my 3rd visit to Stone Cliff Inn, and will most likely be my last. On each of my visits I have noticed that the wait time for our food seemed excessive. I attributed this in the past to either size of our party or to busyness in the restaurant, but in both of those cases it really didn't seem to be a good reason. This last visit was on a Sunday night and the restaurant really wasn't busy; it still took almost 40 minutes to receive our meals. Additionally, for the quality of the food, the pricing is high. The noise level in the restaurant is high as well but most likely that is due to the open floorplan, high ceilings, etc. In any case, all factors combined, my experience with this restaurant has been lacking each time and not worth trying a 4th time.

As many times as we've dined here, it never disappoints. We enjoy bringing friends and relatives here to enjoy the food and the scenery.
An Evening to Remember
I walked through the door into this gorgeous log building over looking the Clackamas River to meet John the manager of Stone Cliff. From that moment until we said our goodbyes to our new friends later in the evening everything was perfect... the atmosphere, the sounds of people enjoying their time together, and being seated in front of the large window looking out at the awesome view. In my online reservation I requested a surprise for my wife (of 30 years) prepared by the kitchen. It was brought to our table at the perfect time for us to celebrate our anniversary prior to dinner. It was here that I first met our waitress Jessica - what a delight she was. My wife ordered Fettuccine Alfredo and was able to add fresh asparagus. I had the hazelnut encrusted chicken with fresh asparagus spears and garlic mashed potatoes... both were delicious! It was prepared quickly and presented perfectly by our server. I looked online for a long time before making my selection of Stone Cliff. John, Jessica, and the staff made this evening a lot of fun and a great memory for us. I would recommend this place for a romantic dinner for two or family and friends who want a special place to make lasting memories.
The Cliff did not disappoint!
Quick father & son dinner and drink at the bar. Loved it!

Food was amazing and they had a good rotating tap.
We've eaten there before so we knew that we would get a great meal. Our server was great also. Two insignificant things stand out though. We were a party of five. When we asked to sit outside at first we were told that we couldn't because there were no tables that seated five. I asked if we could squeeze together (2 children) and he said no, they were tables for four. Then he left and came back and took us outside and seated us at a table for six. I'm still scratching my head on that one. And if you take children and they want a grilled cheese sandwich, it's more like a cheese sandwich on toast. Not melted. But these two minor things won't deter us from going there again. We really enjoy it.

Steaks, Salmon and pasta were all excellent. View is awesome! What a relaxing time!
VERY COLD IN THE BUILDING. SAT NEXT TO AN AIR VENT BLOWING VERY FRIGID AIR. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE
Great food and view-not so great policies
Excellent food and view. Always a great meal. The location is really pretty. My one complaint-there's a $3.50 per head "cake fee" for bringing your own cake. I found it insulting. I eat at all types of restaurants, highly priced to every day food and I've NEVER come across this. The reasoning was even more absurd that the fee. Supposedly, it's to cover any type of liability that they may have, if you get food poisoning from your cake. Explain how that covers this? Otherwise, friendly and attentive staff and great food.

Wonderful food and ambiance
Excellent Brunch and extensive wine list. Amazing view of the Clackamas River. Great outdoor seating area and areas for party reservations. Beautiful building and wooded area.
Enjoyable, as always
We always enjoy our meals at Stone Cliff. There were 3 of us, we all had different salads and a glass of wine. Both service and food were very good.
Great spot for out of town visitors
My father was visiting from "the other" Portland (Maine) and Stone Cliff was on the list of places I just had to take him to.

Great seating on the deck. Server fid a good job on a busy day. Hazelnut chicken salad was excellent however dip sandwich was tough and calamari was greasy. Kitchen was very slow, took 2 hours for lunch for 4 people.
The food is wonderful, the views are absolutely beautiful. This is one of my favorite restaurants, not only for the views and food...the service is great.
The management is really responsive
I really like this place for dinner and the deck is awesome over looking the Clackamas river. I've had some problems in the past with under done salmon, but they fix it or comp the meal. The staff is very friendly.

The food and service was amazing. We ordered the scallops appetizer. It was fantastic. For our main course we ordered the salmon and halibut specials. Both were fantastic. The bread was also superb. For dessert, we got the bread pudding and the creme brûlée. Also amazing. Loved everything about it.
Every aspect of a special birthday dinner exceeded our expectations. Well done!
We have eaten here several times before, have enjoyed the food and ambiance, but will probably not be returning for several reasons. I have excellent hearing, but the noise level was so high that none of us could easily hear each other without shouting. There were quite a few people there for Easter evening dinner, which contributed to this. My second disappointment was in the high prices of the drinks- cocktails, wine, well drinks. My Cosmopolitan was in a very small cocktail glass and was way overpriced at $11. The cheapest wine was a Charles Shaw (2 Buck Chuck) at about $10 a glass. The cost of entrees has increased considerably since last summer, and the prices we paid were way too high for the quality of the food. Several of us had green beans as a side. They were undercooked, tough, and tasteless; we needed a steak knife to cut them. We informed the waitress of this problem, and she returned with a small platter of fresh asparagus, which was excellent. The server was very attentive and helpful, but we came there for a relaxing evening of food and conversation, and left very frustrated and disappointed.
Great food. Best atmosphere on the east side. The only decent food around Happy Valley.
Great food and setting for our large group, ages eight to 90.

We had reservations and were seated as soon as we arrived. My husband saw pancakes and his eyes lit up. I had the corned beef hash. It was quite delicious. The waitress brought us coffee in special cups that she said were her favorite. Very attentive staff.
Wonderful Easter Breakfast
Selected Stone Cliff this year for or annual family Easter breakfast. Happy we did. As always the food and staff where tops.
Above our Expectations
Everything about this place was simply amazing. The staff / service was excellent, view was fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious. Even ran into our local celebrities at dinner! Recommendations and future visits will definitely be happening.
Excellent date night destination.
We have come here since they opened and they have never disappointed. The menu changes with the seasons and is always delicious and beautifully prepared. I can always find the best wine for our meal in the extensive wine list. The servers are always professional and knowledgable.
Amazing food, amazing service, well organized and friendly staff. Will be returning very soon, my favorite restaurant.
Declining at best
We have been to StoneCliff many times over the years. Our last two visits have been very poor. The quality of the food is not very good and is WAY OVERPRICED. We will not visit again, sadly.
Great food, great view!
All 7 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The menu offered a wide variety of choices. My daughter is vegan and found delicious options.
OK for guests
We took a friend from out of town for dinner. The view is great. Food was above average, but I thought the bar was a little light on both mixed drinks and wine. Wine expensive and not much of it. Mixed drink tasted good, but again, not much volume.
Our server Cody was amazing and attentive. He really helped us with choosing our meals and drinks. Thank you Cody!

Dinner is expensive for what you get. I ordered the beef short ribs. I got two, which equaled 7 bites at $5/bite. Fingerling potatoes and under done beans accompanied the ribs. I thought $34 for the meal was excessive. My husband's rack of lamb was stone cold and also pretty expensive. His small glass of wine was $16. The food is good, usually, and the service great. I think we'll stick to lunch at Stone Cliff.
We love Stone Cliff
7 of us went for a late dinner. We had seen on Facebook that they had a new menu and we were anxious to try some of the new entrees. Everything was delicious. Our server Schanae took great care of us. We will be back.
Anniversary Dinner Disappointment
My wife and I have been here several times and always found the food the be well prepared and tasty. This must have Ben an off night. When we arrived and order it was not crowded, so there was pressure on the kitchen to "produce". My wife ordered the dinner special. A $35.00 ribeye medium, with asparagus. What she got was a COLD, very rare, very chewy cut of meat with green beans. We called over the waiter, he was very apologetic , took it back to fix. This after mentioning they had several complaints in the past about this cut of meat. All well and good except now it takes 20 minutes to get another steak, AND I'm done with my dinner. Not much of an anniversary dinner if you eating it alone. The waiter did offer a gratis dessert, which was fine, but still left with a feeling, not much of a good time. Ain't cheap either. Over $100.00 spent with wine included.
Excellent First Experience
My wife and I went to Stone Cliff on a date night so the expectation was for it to be a romantic setting. While a reservation is not entirely necessary, we were told that it was best if we did and are glad we did. The restaurant was fairly full, entire families, couples, small and large groups which worried me a bit about the time it would take for service and also I was hoping for a somewhat romantic setting. Despite the crowd, our seating arrangement made for a cozy experience if not entirely romantic. The service was excellent and helpful when I asked for help with wine selection (which I am not an expert on!) and the timing of drinks, appetizers and main course was spot on. We had time to enjoy our wine, the appetizer and the main course which arrived at a very well spaced timing, which gave us a chance to breath and talk between courses. The food was excellently cooked at the temperatures we asked for and I was surprised that the mash potatoes on my plate were made fresh and with excellent flavor. The vegetables were crisp, cooked spot on with just enough seasoning to enhance the natural flavor of the vegetables. My Bourbon Sirloin was like butter to cut through and the sauce did not overwhelm the flavor of the beef itself, which usually happens at other places. The price was very appropriate to the overall experience and we are now talking about our next visit!
A super place for a fun family meal!
A nicely varied menu, and all of it good. From dining at Stone Cliff many times, we've had most of the appetizers, salads, and main courses. From fish to steaks to meatloaf, never a complaint. The service is outstanding! Sometimes it gets a bit noisy, but that's bound to happen when you're at a restaurant people love to frequent.
This is an awesome place! The food was the best I've ever eaten. I can't stop thinking about it. Beautiful view and great service! Go there!!
Excellent food, service & atmosphere!
Great local restaurant. During the week the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Service was outstanding!
Very good, but not exceptional
My wife and I have dined here several times. What brings us back is the rustic, yet classy, ambience of the main building. We're not into the bar scene, so I have no real opinion about that. The service is always good, however, sometimes the wait staff can give the impression they are trying too hard to "wow" you. The food is always quite good, but not as memorable as I'd like for the price. Exceptional restaurants have the ability to impress a special menu item on your list of favorite things. Stone Cliff hasn't quite managed to do this for us. I will give them high marks for generous side salads, and an extensive wine list that, unfortunately, leaves very few reasonably priced alternatives. I would recommend any of the Columbia Valley vintages if you are looking to keep costs reasonable.
Classy lodge with great food and excellent drink selection. We ate there three times in the three days we were in that area. We are fans of Cody the bartender. He's friendly and knowledgeable. If you want a river view I recemmend making a reservation online.
