Spoon Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Food outstanding and if anything keeps improving
Had another great meal at Spoon with both the appetizers and entrees being exceptional. Had the halibut which was of very high quality, perfectly cooked and with an inventive but not over the top preparation. All 3 other guests had similar impressions. Also, they have an excellent wine list that is not too overpriced. My only complaint is slow and spotty service at times. Unfortunately this is a bit typical for Spoon and is one thing they could and should fix.

My wife and I went with our 2 year old daughter. The service was excellent and everyone came to our table to see if our daughter needed anything. Food was great. Every dish had a unique flavor/touch that really made it standout. Would bring friends and family here in the future.
appetizers were very good, fish was kind of tough. I expected better from Spoon. Service was excellent. As was the wine.
Fun Birthday Dinner for our 17 yr old
Our son wanted a good burger and my wife wanted seafood and she is GF and they can make most of their interesting menu GF. Our waitress was a great source of info and very attentive. Food was good and came out when she told it should. Will go back even though its 35 min away.
With so many good restaurants in the area, Spoon is a good bet.
The empanadas for the appetizer were good. The main dish of monk fish was ok at best. Too many flavors in one dish. The flavors were over whelming. The desert was very good.
Creative Menu with excellent presentation
This is the second time I have eaten at Spoon and both times were excellent. The flavors were creative and the entire experience was enjoyable. I will be back!

Well thought out food!
I don't think I will ever forget the Blue Cheese Souffle that my mother and I shared. It's a good sized started, with lots of greens, cubed beets and a wonderful dressing. We shared that and the grilled avocado, which was delicious, but a smaller dish. The cut side of the avocado was seared in something delicious that gave it a slightly brulee-like shell. Excellent. Our entrees were delicious, but it's the starters that I will never forget.
Excellent wine list.
Excellent wine list.
The Monk Fish was a Major Disappointment
We enjoyed the cheese platter and octopus, but the monk fish was disappointing. Within 10 minutes of ordering, our entrees were served. Might they have been prepared ahead of time? The fish was tough, and the risotto missed the mark. Smart money should select something else from the menu. On the positive side, the wait staff was helpful and friendly. We've been to Spoon several times, and we think it requires some new menu additions. It just appears tired.
We go to spoon when we have business guests or some sort of special occasion. What I like about this restaurant is that you can make your own couse because it offers wide variety of portion size, from bites to large and small portion of main dishes. I chose a bite and two apps and my husband chose one bite and one regular size main dish. One of our guest had same menu with my husband, while another guest had a bite, one app and small main dish. We all were happy to have right amount of favorite food. Reasonablly priced and a nice wine list are other reasons to go there.
Gem in the 'Burgh
Visited Spoon for the first time and what a great evening. The wine list is very good and the sommelier is very knowledge and approachable. Each of our appetizers were interesting and well presented. Some restaurants and chefs lose their creativity when the entree is served. Our entrees were really wonderful for taste, presentation and creativity. The service is good but lacks some of the polish and professionalism of true fine dining, but all-in-all definitely a very good experience and a restaurant we hope to visit regularly.

Service, drinks, and food were all excellent. Biggest complaint was that we had to sit in close proximity to another table.
Go Tappas and experience a culinary delight
Celebrated our anniversary this week- great table where we could have a quiet conversation. The small plates are a wonderful way to experience a wide variety of wonderful foods and not get too full. We enjoyed the octopus, lamb curry (great but some kick to it), lobster/crab pot pie, and pulled burrata (white cheese). All amazing! We also ordered the red snapper but we were too full to finish even though it was fantastic ... Wine by bottle and glass were available to suit any taste and price range. Since it was our anniversary they comped dessert. We could only have a few bites of the spoon bar but again great food. Might be the best local gem in Pitts!

Dinner on Valentine's Day.... The mood was vibrant, the staff from reception through the bar and tableside service was on their game, friendly and alive with energy. Jeanette took wonderful care of us, making suggestions from her own experience. although we like the normal menu, there was a fixed menu for dinner (selection of starter, main and dessert). Hamachi done right and the blue cheese soufflé was perfect. The scallop main was flavorful and the short rib pasta had just the right bite; the tenderloin, ordered Pittsburgh rare came out rare but not crusted (which was okay... hard to pull off in a normal kitchen, but we might have been told that). We had the Patz & Hall Chardonnay -- it accompanied the meal well. Dessert was The restaurant's setting is ideal for a quieter meal; would be good for a business dineer. I highly recommend a stop by all friends
Third time there, we will be back! Delicious food, relaxed atmosphere.
I thought that is was absolutely ridiculous what they were charging for a 3 course meal. I am also irritated because I made my reservation over a month ago and was never told about the Prix Fixe menu. I would not have gone on Valentines day if I knew that.
Delicious Valentines Day Prix Fixe
First visit to this establishment. The dinner was spectacular, and the wine pairings were also lovely. I would highly recommend it
Great Food, Great Ambiance
I would go back just for the grilled avocado appetizer. The entrees were thoughtfully prepared, and very well balanced (Pork 2 ways is delightful). My fiancee and I shared 2 desserts; the citrus is light but sharp with flavors, while the carrot is a deconstructed carrot cake which was moist and rich. $3 valet parking is an added bonus.
Spoon is a Shadyside gem
We eat at Spoon about once a month, and find the food consistently outstanding every time. Thursday evening we started our dinner with the most outstanding mushroom soup we have ever had. It had duck confit and carmelized onions in it...fabulous! The rest of the meal was amazing as well.
exceeded our expectations
Service and food were phenomenal. A bit pricey but worth it. Great for a special occasion or foodie out of town friends. We will be back.

One of the best food experiences I've had in Pittsburgh. I wish I didn't wait this long to partake, can not wait to go back. Wild boar and homemade noodles - excellent. Hangar steak add the "indulge" you won't be disappointed. A must try in the Burgh.
Very nice dinner:-)
I had the pork two ways and it was good but the pork tenderloin was melt in your mouth amazing! Put a bit of the bacon jam on top and OMG it was heaven! I also appreciated that they had chips for GF people while the others had a yummy looking bread assortment. The citrus dessert was to die for as well:-) Would definitely order these items again!
Spoon always delivers
A highlight of my occasional trips to Pittsburgh always includes Spoon! The food is inventive but even more important: I can actually speak and hear my dinner guest! No loud music. Nothing is worse than "energetic" noise at the lovely dinner. Thanks for actually being mindful of your guests rather than being uber-hip.
Not responsive to my companion's poor meal.
My companion is a vegan who also does not eat salad and is mostly partial to pasta etc. She ordered the gnocchi and was willing to accept that it was stuffed with ricotta cheese But found the pasta gummy and uneatable as well as the meal being totally tasteless and poorly seasoned. The desert was another disappointment the doughnut concoction had the doughnut as about as edible as a brick. Dry doughy and also not edible. My meal was quite good But I doubt seriously that my companion will return.
The food was very good and flavorful. I would have liked to have a few more selections for my wife on the limited menu for restaurant week. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The whole experience will bring me back again.
Worth the trip
Fabulous service, delicious food and a great location. I am sorry we could not spend more time at Spoon and enjoy the tasting menu. We had to leave for a concert. Next trip our only evening plan will be dining at this excellent restaurant !
Saturday night dinner
Came for restaurant week. Blue cheese souffle and spoon bar were on point as usual. Hanger steak entree was the one new thing I tried. It looked to be perfectly medium rare, but was, in fact, cold and dry like it had been sitting around for a while. The entree in general was just not on par with my expectation of spoon.
We had a lovely meal during restaurant week. The blue cheese souffle is amazing and I think Spoon has the best bread service in Pittsburgh. All the food was well prepared. It was difficult to talk because the noise level was high.
A little loud?
I've been here several times before, but the recent visit was disappointing -- we went with a group from work to take a visitor to dinner. It was a Thursday night, the place was not packed, but the service was quite slow. In addition, surprisingly, the background music was quite loud -- and it felt like all the tables around us were talking louder and louder to be heard over the background music. We asked at least three times if it could be turned down, but never discerned a change, which was a disappointment since we chose that place so that we could talk with each other over dinner. Won't make that mistake again.

Unique food for Pittsburgh. Decent cocktails and wine list. Love many of the appetizers and desserts are always interesting. Spoon bar is very popular. I have never had a bad experience the hand full of times I have been to Spoon. The service is fairly good as well.
Spoon remains one of the best meals and values
Always enjoy Spoon for a great dinner, but also an option for appetizers, small plates and a bottle of wine after a movie. The flavor development is wonderful. Excellent wine selection and professional service.
We had a delicious Christmas Eve dinner at Spoon. Good guidance on a wine for the table and yummy appetizers-- especially the octopus and lamb meatballs. It is nice to have two options for dinner portions( small plates). Filet of beef was plated creatively and so tender! We Will definitely return!
Exceptional cocktail selection (Gin & Tonic) & outstanding entree (Porchetta). Very comfortable vibe & attentive service.
