As always, dining here is an excellent experience. I had the fish of the day, haddock, which was perfectly prepared. My friends split a steak entrée. The Vidalia onion tart was shared as the appetizer. My favorite place to eat in Buford!

Not recommend needs major work

Dined on April 16, 2016

We had reservation at 7:45 party of 4. It was not busy. It took 1 hour to get 2 salads. Our entrees were not appealing in taste nor looks. Everyone's dishes sauces tasted the same brown looking sauce. The waiter was more concerned about the candle on table being out than service. The hostess or manager came over and apologized but it was two hours later and we had enough of bad service. And food. Sorry tried a Buford restaurant, not impressed.

Rediscovered Sperata's!!

Dined on April 2, 2016

We live in Suwanee and used to go to Sperata's a couple times a year and then somehow it left our radar and not sure why. We rediscovered it recently and have been there two times. Both times the service was excellent and so was the food. On our first visit back their special was Beef Wellington, which one rarely finds on a menu.

Took family to Sperata for dinner. 2nd time for me, first for wife and daughter.. From minute one your comfortable and relaxed. Service is fantastic and not pushy.. Great overall staff. Got to have the Carpaccio, it's fantastic. I had the steak au poive, it was butter soft. The Mahi with shrimp was also very good.. A great place to relax and enjoy a great meal..

As usual, Sperata was excellent. Michael was his usual efficient and attentive self. Of course, Oliver took time to stop by for a greeting. Our guests were impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly attention of Michael and Oliver. Well done!

The atmosphere and ambiance along with great true "foodie" type food are always what you get here consistently. I would recommend this for a first date or celebration or just a plain treat. I have small parties here with great success. The wait staff is always helpful and attentive.

Valentine’s Day Rush

Dined on February 15, 2016

We went to our favorite neighborhood restaurant Sperata to have a romantic Valentine’s dinner. They were very busy. I had to make a choice….stay and not have many good things to say about my favorite restaurant or just come back at a later time and enjoy all that Sperata has to offer. We opted to leave and come back at a later date (Still to be determined). No need to ruin a great destination with one bad experience. Sure it was Valentine’s Day and it only comes once a year but your favorite neighborhood restaurant should be a celebration every time you go.

Wonderful Valentine Dinner!

Dined on February 15, 2016

We've been to Sperata for dinner on another occasion and once again enjoyed our dining experience. Our Valentine's Day 5 course meal was very nicely done, didn't feel like any of the 5 course meal sat under a heating lamp, the food was delicious and served just right. The service was great as it was last time as well. Only issue that I had was that there was only 1 option on the starter which I couldn't eat because it had ham and prosciutto. Overall, just a great evening with good company and wonderful meal!

Dined on February 14, 2016

Good: The prix fixed menu was overpriced The meal may have been worth $75 a person if there were wine pairing included. The first course was so so, the soups were horrible for course two. Lobster in the lobster bisque was rubberized the potato leek soup had no flavor. The house salad was amazing. My wife's Caesar salad...no flavor. The filet had no sear, but was the right temperature. The filet cut like a prime rib. Seemed to be roasted or boiled. Too many vegetables (and their juices) under the steak. Bernaise sauce had broken but had good flavor. Dessert was tasty and a good (small) size to end the meal. Service: Impeccable. I'm sorry that our waitress had to serve food that was created with no passion though.

Excellent Valentine's Day Dinner

Dined on February 14, 2016

I made a reservation for Sperata for Valentine's Day dinner because we have been there a couple of times before and the food was good, the atmosphere romantic and had a nice experience overall. What I didn't expect--although I probably should have--was a prix fixe menu for the evening. The menu had two entree offerings, a steak and a salmon option. Both would have been OK, but I wasn't really in the mood for either of those two. Luckily, the waiter (Michael) told us quickly that there were two other entree options (a pork Wellington and flounder with scallop and shrimp)... these extra two options saved the day and we had a wonderful dinner. However, I noticed at least one couple who sat down got up and left after seeing the prix fixe menu and the accompanying $75 per order. All in all, we had a very nice evening and the complimentary truffle and long-stemmed rose was a nice touch at the end.

Valentines Day dinner

Dined on February 14, 2016

We were ushered upstairs for dinner. We had asked to sit down stairs. We were seated to a tables with no napkins. We waited for 1 solid hour for soup and salad! We couldn't ask our waitress because she never came back. It then took another half an hour to get our dinner. Absolutely terrible service!

A bit disappointing

Dined on February 13, 2016

We were very excited after reading the reviews. The restaurant is lovely, but the piano is so loud we could not hear anything. The food was okay, but the lamb on the menu is not what we were served. The plating was not what you expect for a fine dining experience. There was also a long wait between our salad and our meal, a very long wait..........might give it another try but probably not.....

Dined on February 13, 2016

Atmosphere was nice. Loved the piano. Service was okay but our server did not know enough about the dishes. Swordfish was a little dry. Lamb medallions were tough & stringy. Onion tart was good. Escargot was not as described on menu. And the dishes were not pretty. Valentine's rose & chocolate was nice touch. Overall disappointing & expensive.

parting words for Sperata

Dined on February 13, 2016

Our reservation-request to be sat away from the drafty front of the house was not met--apparently the other tables were spoken for (except for the upstairs and my wife is unable to climb steps). As a consolation, diners near the door (which were frquently opened by influx of customers) were provided a small heating fan. Our meals cooled down quickly. The waiter apologized repeatedly. Although I had checked online for Sperata's menu, their was no mention that the entire weekend featured a Valentine's Day Menu (an unpleasant surprise when we arrived). The meals were acceptable for an average restaurant---but I was expecting exciting cuisine--especially at the Valentine's Day prices. The front desk staff was coldly accomodating and there was a general air of hustle and bustle.

Wonderful meal at Sperata

Dined on February 13, 2016

We had a wonderful meal, outstanding service. Everything was excellent and I'd certainly consider coming back. We wanted to try something new and not a 'chain' in Gwinnett. Perfect for date night. They had a special Valentine's weekend menu so I don't know if what we had is on the regular menu. But if they are I would certainly recommend the pork wellington and the NC flounder. The restaurant is very small so I would recommend having reservations!

Great restaraunt, great food, perfect date night

Dined on February 13, 2016

I would definitely recommend Sperata to anyone. I took my girlfriend for our Valentine's dinner and was quite impressed with the ambiance, the service, and the food. Definitely an upper class, very nice feel, but at the same time warm and inviting. Great wine list and menu, but not priced out of reach for anyone. A+ in my book

Sperata Buford, GA review

Dined on January 10, 2016

Menu on web site is not the same as the menu when you arrive. Items listed on the web menu not offered. Food took forever to be served. One couple asked for rolls since the food was taking so long. $9 for 12 rolls. Outrageous. Ordered bisque, never arrived yet it was still on the bill. A bottle on the menu for $32 was $40 when the bill arrived. Had to point out discrepancies to waitress to get an adjustment for wine (overcharged) and bisque not delivered. Food all spiced with curry. Disappointing. This was a birthday celebration with 3 couples. I was bitterly disappointed and won't return.

Always a wonderful, romantic dinner out. We have enjoyed date night here for years! The fish specials were amazing, and the vidalia onion tart is always a must order treat. A great, local date night spot. Thanks to Oliver and Ellie for their amazing service and hospitality. A must try spot if you haven't already. We would love to see them reopen the wine bar down the street to enjoy after dinner. Though, the tiramisu and its presentation with chocolate, ice cream and berries wasn't a bad alternative :)

very poor new years eve experience

Dined on January 1, 2016

This restaurant for a new years dinner was obviously not prepared, the service was incredibly slow, no music, only thing I heard was banging dishes and pans, very limited over priced menu, with food being marginal at best. Servers seemed more interested cleaning up than attending to their customers. Will not be back!

We had visited before and loved Sperata. We decided to celebrate our anniversary here again. My husband had the pork chop and I had the roast duck. Both were perfectly amazing. We shared a bottle of wine and our glasses were always full, including our water glasses. We had their creme brulee for dessert, which I can honestly say was the best we have ever had. The staff at Sperata make dining there a perfect experience. We will definitely visit again!

Christmas Feast

Dined on December 25, 2015

My wife and I decided not to cook and eat home on Christmas. There were few places open near our home, but Sperata was one of them. We had visited there before so felt comfortable going on Christmas. They had a special feast of a menu, $55/person. It was more than one could eat, but outstanding food and presentation, done family style. Antipasto, with various meats, followed by Wellington Soup (very good) Salad with poached egg, yummy. Then I thought we would be getting our choice of meat. Not, we had ham, sirloin, leg of lamb, green beans potatoes. All this followed by yummy desserts. The food was incredibly well prepared; the Hostess was so caring and helpful. It was a great experience. No rush between courses; we spent over 2 1/2 hours there and not bored. Of course added some wine and espresso.

It was a very special Christmas Day Event!

Dined on December 25, 2015

It was a special fixed menu that was second to none! Appetizer tree with smoked Salmon, Shrimp, Prosciutto and more, Soup and salad, Salmon Wellington, Lamb, Prime Rib, and a slice of Heavenly Ham. Served with Carrots, Green Beans Brussels sprouts and potatoes. Desert was the best Apple Pie with Ice Cream and the Sticky Pudding was to over the top. I know I left somethings out , but all was prepared by a wonderful Chef! On a scale of 10 it was at least a 12! Puts us down for next Christmas!

Outstanding food

Dined on December 24, 2015

Food is the thing a restaurant should do best, and this chef is outstanding. Wait staff was very friendly and professional, though we had to ask where our waitress went, as we waited longer than expected to order a drink. Food takes time to receive, as I suspect nothing is prepared ahead of time, and seems to come straight off the cooktop to table, hot and delightfully fresh. In this case, I don't mind waiting! My husband had Seafood Stew (would have liked more vegetables but it was loaded with delicacies from the sea), I had the Chef's salmon/crab special and savored every bite, and our son had a very large beef tenderloin, loaded with mushrooms. Portions were healthy. Two of us had leftovers to savor at home. I wish the remodel didn't include the "Ali Baba" curtains that conceal the kitchen space. Chef seems a bit like Wizard of Oz, and one has to wonder, who's idea was this? Would much rather see the action - the master at work. I enjoy a feeling of creativity and hustle-and-bustle in a restaurant. We were fortunate though as the evening drew to a close, Chef came out from behind the magic curtain. We were happy we could say hello, and praise him for a meal well done. Highly recommend if you appreciate excellent food and an intimate room. We look forward to returning.
