Great Hidden Gem in San Jose
The staff is super attentive and the food was delicious. Have fois gras on your steak you won't regret it. The steak was perfectly cooked as requested and the brussel sprouts were yummy!!
Ribeye at lunch is a very good deal!
At lunch, the ribeye comes with meshed potatoes and asparagus, no need to pay extra. The size of the steak is just about right and is extremely good! Very good value!

The food and service was flawless. My husband and I, absolutely loved the calamari. Best we've ever had!
Would not go back
Prices are not commensurate with the portion or quality of the food. Drinks were good and service was outstanding.

We have been to this Resturant many times and had a good experience , but we did not have the same experience this time. Their food and service was average!
Bait & switch on the valentines pre-fix ...
Bait & switch on the valentines pre-fix menu. Website said Filet, Waitress said filet. Meal came out with Ribeye. No effort to correct the issue. Also, only 2 desserts served for 4 people. Waitress said the dessert were to "share". No mention of that on the website when booking either.
What happened to this place?
My wife & I have dined here annually for about 10 years, and they were always good. Until now. I cannot in good conscious recommend them any longer. The menu tonight (February 13) was a Prix Fixe menu for Valentines Day. We chose the 13th to avoid the Prix Fixe menu because we wanted to choose our own dinner. Out of luck. So ok, fine. The appetizer was advertized as a Ceviche and consisted of 4 small pieces of Ahi tuna and 1 shrimp with some julienned vegetables and avocado still in the peel. We cannot report on the salad, because we did not get it. At all. The waiter came with our entrees, and when we commented on the lack of a salad, offered to bring them with the entree. One of our party selected the Lobster and Rib Eye. the other three ordered the New York Steak. The new yorks were prepared very well and tasted good. Not amazing, but good. The rib eye did not appear to actually be a rib eye. It was stringy and tough. the lobster tail was old, had been frozen too long, and was overcooked, then burned on the grill. They chose to have a live DJ playing bad disco music loudly in the bar, thereby ruining the ambiance as well. All things considered, one of the Worst Experiences Ever in dining out.
Great seared ahi
The ago was seared to perfection. And the inside was slightly warm. It was a really good meal
Nice but Spendy
Reserved at Spencer's for a business dinner around the San Jose airport area by process of elimination as the other restaurants on my list could not take my reservation for 6 people at the time I tried to reserve. We had the rib eye and New York steaks and everyone said they were good. The portions were large too, but they'd better be considering the price. The wine list included a nice range of selections and prices. Overall it was a good dining experience. I plan to try other restaurants in the area before going back to Spencer's.
Modified for travelers
We've been going to Spencer's for years. It's always been top notch, which initially surprised us as it's a hotel restaurant. Have noticed a decline in the food quality, quantity, and a huge increase in prices. The service is good, but not at the level of a Ruth's Chris, etc. Were told the portion change was due to hotel guests who couldn't take leftovers. Makes sense, yet..... We had the French onion soup, pork chop (not the butterflied chops), with the 3 sides for $24 (creamed spinach, lobster mac 'n cheese, hash browns). The chop was a thick cut and cooked as ordered but had notable fat which I had to cut off and put to the side of the plate. Diminished the size of this $34 chop. The blueberry compote was great. The chop - - ehhhh. Re: the sides. I'm a creamed spinach fiend. This was mostly cream, and stringy spinach. Would pass on this. The hash browns used to come in a hot cast iron skillet. This kept the spuds/cheese hot 'n melted. They are now served on a plate. The potatoes cool, the cheese congeals....... Good but not great (as they truly were - -). The corkage fee is $25 (really steep). For the quality/quantity, we're starting to look for another steakhouse. Spencer's is quiet - - a big plus.
Okay food, great service
Was not that impressed with overall food, was just okay. Service was very good.
Great Steaks, Great Wine, Blah Desserts
Service was excellent, steaks were well prepared and flavorful. Sides (brussel sprouts & creamed spinach) were adequate. Desserts were slightly disappointing. Cheese Cake was very standard. Creme Brulee was prepared incorrectly (overcooked).
Food and service were excellent as usual!
I had their special 18oz bone-in filet mignon; it was awesome! I have never had a bone-in filet mignon, specially one that is 18oz!

The ambient was good, service was great, but the food wasn't satisfying. It was our fault for not asking what was being served in the prix fixe, but it was not worth the $300 we spent since we did not eat the soup or desert, and my date did not eat the salad.
Attention to detail. not this time.
We eat here fairly often. It can be expensive, but usually worth it. Most everything was good, but the vegetables came to the table cold. The waiter held the plates with a towel, indicating the plates were hot. They were stone cold, which may have made the carrots cool of by the time the food was brought to the table. The waiter was good, we had him before, but the table helper / bus person would come pull plates without asking and before we were done with the parts that was served on the plates. I could have used a touch of sauce for my crab cake and there was still some on the plate as is was whisked away. She took my bread plate and I still had a piece of bread in my hand.
Christmas Eve dinner. Excellent choice. Waitress Lauren was pleasant and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding. Scampi appetizer is amazing. My NY steak was cooked to perfection!

Overpriced, and not feeling special
I took my employees for a holiday dinner (group of fifteen). Despite booking weeks early and spending $2,000 (between dinner and bar) I had no contact with any manager and no offer for choices of menus. When we arrived the hostess greeted me asked if it was set up for a prix-fix menu. I said not that I know of. She asked who I booked it with, and when I said Open Table, she said "oh, then, no, sorry." (But their website leads you here.) I asked if that was still a choice (since the group had not even entered). She said sorry, no. You should have called us earlier. But they called me direct twice to have the number confirmed a day before. Someone is not communicating. I don't think the value was there for what we had. I also did not like that they charged extra for side dishes and combined the potatoes and vegetables on two platters that we had to hand around. I think some got more and others got, well, not enough. So overall, not worth the cost. Next year we will find some where else to go.

Went for a business dinner and everything was fabulous!
Good Filet, boring Ribeye
The Filet was nice and tender - though we did send it back once for being too salty - but the RibEye wasn't qualitatively different than one I can cook at home. The Creamed spinach was nice if you like a strong clove taste. The wine list was nice though and I found myself a nice merlot.
Nice place to have a group meal.
Our server Karia wasn't attentive to our group, Sal did most of the work for our table. Had to ask for refills and dessert menus. There was also gnats flying around our table. Miss opportunity for the restaurant manger, who never came to our table. He had 5 Executive Admins from Cisco at the table. I would like to come back and try the bar/dinner to really get a fill of the restaurant and service. Aly
This was the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our server, unfortunately I can't remember his name, was very attentive and the food was amazing!!!
When we're in the mood for steaks, Spencer's hits the spot. I like how they prepare their steaks with a little bit of char and we've liked all the side dishes we've tried so far. They're very near to where we live so convenience is a plus. The big sell is that they currently participate in the Passport Unlimited program which helps with the bill. Beef isn't cheap! I just wish they'd serve Double Tree's famous chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
Tried Spencer's for Steaks and Chops last Saturday night. Sat at a nice cozy table near the fireplace. Arrived at 5pm so there was no crowd for our dinner. We had the Filet and Lobster special. The lobster was pretty good, but the butter was mysterious. Mashed potatoes were thick and a large portion. Asparagus was flavorful. The "filet" was extremely small and should have been called a medallion. Since we went there to try the steaks we were a little disappointed in the steak portion. I would have ordered the filet if I knew the steak would be so small. The service person was friendly and took good care of us. I would go back just to get to try the steaks.

Excellent experience! Our server, Jesse, was excellent. Had the seared ahi appetizer. Wonderful taste and seared perfectly! The steaks, as always, were wonderfully seared, tasty, and were the perfect temperature. We were lamenting that poached pears weren't on the dessert menu this time. Jesse remembered seeing some in the kitchen & had the chef make us some. Excellent service and they were beautifully prepared! A perfect anniversary dinner!
Pricey, but worth every penny!
I wanted to surprise my lady with a romantic dining experience where the food was as great as the ambiance. I couldn't have picked a better place! She loved it! We had dungenous crab cakes for the appetizer that were the best ever, and really had us anxious for more! For dinner, she had the filet mignon and I had a bone in ribeye, and they were the best steaks we ever had in our lives! The side dishes were phenomenal, as well. A dungenous crab mac and cheese, sauteed mushrooms and onions, and grilled asparagus that knocked our socks off! Then for dessert, we had coffee with her crème brulee and my raspberry sherbet. We ended up bringing home a doggie bag because we had filled up fast on warm, fresh french bread and salted whipped butter. Again, phenomenal! This two hour dining experience cost $248 and I tipped the staff $50 for their incredible service. It was a great experience that I would recommend to everyone!
Spencer's is always my first choice
Spencer's is always my first choice for lunch and business lunches because the food and service is always excellent, the portions are perfect, and it's the perfect environment to talk, relax and enjoy a great meal . I have been working in San Jose and enjoying dining at Spencer's for the last six years.
Great place for a casual business lunch
The food was delicious. It was easy to make reservations on Open Table. The service was a bit on the slow side so don't recommend going there if you are in a hurry and need a quick bite.
My introduction to this restaurant was based on the website. But apparently the general site does not offer the same items in the San Jose location. Consequently, the offerings were not the same, especially the appetizers. I pointed this out to our waiter, and after several trips back and forth from the kitchen they told me that they don't off the same items. 1/2 hour later we are asking for bread or something to eat. We order Calamari which takes another 1/2. I'm now told that the only thing they can offer from the original menu is the watermelon salad. My wife orders the Burrata salad. 1/2 later she gets her salad. I'm told they are still making my salad. 2 hours into the meal I get greens, wedge of cheese and chopped honey dew and cantaloupe pieces. Apparently that is considered watermelon. Two hours into the meal I have had bread and calamari. In a restaurant that has about 5-6 tables with plenty of servers. No bussing of the table, no pouring the Cristal Champagne that I bought. Worst experience I have ever had. I would never recommend such an ineptitude wait staff to anyone. Needless to say I cancelled the rest of the meal and asked for the check.
This is an ok restaurant for out of town business people. The portions are small however they have a nice wine list.
Good for large parties
Good place in San Jose with space to accommodate many 6+ parties away from the main dining area. Food was pretty standard but the service was great with just the right amount of attentiveness.
Everything was real good.
On a scale of 10, everything was 8 or 9. It could be nicer if the tables worn't so close, but everybody is quite and respectful. The best places I have been, the food comes out like it just poped off the grill. I would highly recommend Spencers for a high quality, high service location.
Bad First Experience
Unfortunately, not a good experience for a first timer. I had reservations for 12 noon for 5. We were seated at 12:15 while other customers were showing up with their parties and were seated almost immediately. Bad start. We ordered our food. The waiter wrote down our orders (so I thought). He came back 15 minutes later to confirm who had ordered what. Not good. We finally got our food at 1:10!! I have to say, my Spencer's Steakhouse Burger was good. However, my boss ordered a sandwich of which he took two bites of and left it. He said it was too greasy. We didn't see our waiter until the end and he didn't even ask if everything was OK seeing that there were two full plates on the table (one of my co-worker's didn't like what they ordered either). Oh, and by the way, we brought a client/customer with us (which was the whole purpose of the lunch). It didn't make us look good.

The food is always delicious but this particular time the kitchen was unbearably slow. I had a noon reservation, but my party didn't receive its food until 1p. Since it was several individuals first visit and I was entertaining clients, it was not a good first impression at all.
Ambience is great. Classy.
I will recommended for business dinner or a date. Great steaks. Wine list impressive.

Spencer is a great choice for business dinner. Their food, especially their steak, is very good.
All it has is location
Honestly the only differentiation this steak house offers is its location. It's in the DoubleTree near the airport. Otherwise there are much better steak houses in downtown SJ. Service was way subpar. Barely saw our waiter and had to flag him down for everything even though it was a $500 dinner for three. Food was good. Really noisy, subpar atmosphere. I'd only go here for a business dinner where there are early flights out the next morning. Otherwise go downtown for better service, ambience and value.
Nice steak dinner before the concert at Levi.
We stayed at the Doubletree Hotel and had dinner at Spencer's right before heading to a concert at Levi Stadium. We had four 9 year old girls with a total of 9 people for dinner. It was a wonderful experience and since we ate at 5pm, it was quiet and had great service! I would definitely recommend.
