Sly's Ratings and Reviews
Must try Sly's. Nice spot in the center of Carpinteria. Great food. fair price. Wonderful owners who really care about what they are doing.
It is just consistently GREAT.
It is just consistently GREAT.
Everything was great, but as a caring Californian, I was disappointed that water was brought to our table without having been requested. ALL restaurants should refrain from automatic water service. (Worst drought in recorded weather history.)
Great fod & Service
We have dined here before several years ago. The food and service are still excellent. We had a great dinner and dessert.
Five Star Food, Service, Atmosphere!
We have dined many times at Sly's. We are continually amazed at the consistency of great food, drinks, service. Annie & Sly have worked hard and their diligence continues to pay off. Five Star service from parking through dessert!!
Food always the same consitant wonderful food.
My friends from Europe ask to meet at Sly's...since I took them there the first time. One orders the same dish each year. Always perfect like the last time.
great food and wine!
The Nantucket Scallops were to die for! Great wine list, fun menu. Terrific service. Prices are high, but when the food is special, as ours was, then I'm willing to spend more once in a while.

As usual, Sly's was absolutely wonderful. Even on a busy Easter Sunday Brunch day, service was friendly and fast, food ... delicious!
We try to find a reason to go to Sly's whenever we are in Carpinteria. Best brunch around.
Terrible service, overpriced.
Waited 15 minutes for half of our drink order. Had to request the second drink at 25min. It was a busy friday night, however thee tables were seated, got drinks and appetizers in the time it took to receive the first drink. To add insult to the situation, the head chef and presumably owner sat adjacent to us at the front of the restaurant being waited on hand over foot. He even had the audacity to thank us for leaving after being visibly upset for over a half hour. Overpriced food does not dictate good service. Dont be fooled. This place is a lunch counter for the owners friends and townsfolk. Not for visitors. Save yourself yhe time, frustration, and load of money. Go anywhere else!

Marvelous, fresh, tender Abalone. Always a friendly place, always a good vibe, lots of families, couples, even a comfortable place to dine by yourself.
Iv e always liked this restaurant in the past but was very disappointed this time!!. The steak tartar was kind of dry for raw meat. It was like they forgot to put the egg in it. I was served without toast points. I had to use the few tomatoes and a slice of onion to make it eatable.
Delicious as always!
We went there on a Monday night to celebrate a minor anniversary. We both ordered the blue plate special (filet mignon meat loaf with mushroom sauce) and some wine. The service was quick and knowledgeable, and we had a delicious dinner for a good price in a reasonable amount of time. What more could you ask for?
Overly ambitious menu with mediocre food. Unaccommodating chef to simple request. There are much better options and better value in other Carpenteria restaurants.
Sly's is consistently our favorite restaurant in the Santa Barbara Area. It was also my father's favorite place when he would come to visit. Pop was a long time restaurateur in New Jersey and loved the Spaghetti Caruso and Spaghetti Carbonara. This restaurant is overall excellent. great cocktails. A very eclectic menu which show's James Sly's strength as a chef. Annie Sly is always there making sure her customers are satisfied. My wife and I are big fans and have dined in many fine places. We find ourselves at Sly's regularly.
Wonderful fine dining in Carpinteria
Great Steakhouse near the beach , suggest reservations on busy nights , we were there for valentine's day. Tuna Tartar, Scalloped Potatoes , Filet Mignon , Creme Brulee. Its pricey but you get what you pay for. Service was great, course delivery well timed.
Sky's is Amazing!
Best Sunday brunch I've ever had!! The food is absolutely amazing and the Bloody Mary is ridiculously good as well!
This place was a nice surprise. I had so much fun.
The food was good. Drinks were tasty. Service was amazing. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Go for the brunch and the Moscow Mule
A Great Weeknight Out
Waiter was knowledgeable, helpful with menu choices, and attentive. We enjoyed a long dinner and did not feel rushed. Plenty of parking, as well as available valet service. We will definitely return and recommend Sly's to friends.
A Night to Remember
We enjoyed dining at Sly's. Our cocktails were well prepared and served. The twist of lemon atop my martini was beautiful! We started with oysters on the half shell. The platter on which they were served was not attractive (needed a garnish or something). There was insufficient cocktail/horseradish sauce for dipping. The sand dabs and scallops were excellent. Creamed spinach is better at Lucky's. Service was A-1. Tony was exceptionally attentive without being overbearing. We look forward to another visit.
Abalone on the Menu
We have been to Sly's a few times in the past. It is know for its meat offerings, but what caught my eye was abalone. These rare morsels comes from a farm established in the ocean off Cayucos decades ago, and they conform to the standards set by Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch. Rather than eating an endangered food source, we were offered an opportunity at Sly's the sample a rare taste treat that's grown in a sustainable way, so there's no need to pass on the offering because of an ethical consideration and every reason to find out why these creatures are so delectable when properly prepared, cooked and presented. Sly's steaks may be the best for miles around, but it was the abalone that will assure our return. Indeed, we have never had anything but great food at this restaurant, because those folks know cooking -- all kinds of cooking.
Sly's never disappoints!
We always plan an overnight near Carpinteria so as not to miss this place. My husband comes for the sand dabs. I cannot believe the quality of the food. I'm slowly working through the menu but always have the creamed spinach. And the east coast broiled scallops are fantastic! A true gem!!!
Our waiter was wonderful and was kind with our specific order changes. He even made sure to bring out our dessert with a candle and Happy Bday message for my friend who was celebrating her special day! Two thumbs up!

With all they hype about Sly's I was a little disappointed. Really nice restaurant and excellent service. The food however was nothing special for the price.
Best sand dabs ever. Light fresh amazing.
Sand dabs light and tasty. We loved that we could sit there as long as we liked to discuss business at lunch.
Always feel at home at Sly's
Love Sly's!! great neighborhood place with very good food, traditional cocktails and professional staff. I always feel at home here.
From the greeting Upon arrival to the night's end they do it right and have it right every time. We enjoy ourselves and look forward to the next time. Food, service, wine list, presentation are always what you appreciate and come to expect as you will come back again.
Delectable food and superb service!
Everyone here treats you like a royalty and the entire extensive menu is one to feast on! Jessica the bartender really knows her cocktails and is so accommodating. I can't remember our waiters name but he was lovely and very knowledgeable.
A perfect end to 2015
I regret that I don't recall the name of our server, but I certainly was impressed with the service he provided. It was a little gem of a dining experience made the more enjoyable because of advice given by our server and the graciousness of his attitude. We'd dined at Sly's before, and taken guests there as well, but our experience on New Year's Eve eclipsed our previous visits. We are long time Carpinteria residents who have relocated and it was a pleasure to enjoy the ambience of a restaurant that we had known in other iterations, for example: Tony's with the pool room in back--home of the T Burger. The hostess was very pleasant as well, explaining the background of the photographer and his black and white images on the walls. All in all, a very pleasurable experience and a wonderful prelude to the Santa Barbara Symphony at the Granada where we rounded out the evening.
I love to come to Sly's because it is always consistently excellent in every way. I had the fixed price menu which had wine pairings. Each course was scrumptious. Also found that the wine for each course was tasty and was very generous. I realize that Sly changes the menu with wine pairings often. It is a fun way to be introduced to food and wine of different regions of Europe.
Good rep, poor performance
I had been to Sly's once a few years ago, though only to the bar, for a glass of wine and a small plate. The atmosphere then was buzzy and friendly, and I barely remember the food or the wine, so they must have been at least OK. This time, I'd checked reviews and found a lot of very positive ones for Sly's food and service, so I decided to take my son and his family there for a post-Christmas treat. I'd checked the menu online and so knew prices were on the high side. Service was good, excellent in fact, from the front of the house as well as from our waiter. The problem was with the food. I had a prix fixe dinner with cabbage soup and leg of lamb. The soup had little flavor (except salt) and was full of those little 'baby' carrots supermarkets sell in sealed plastic bags (as well as some cabbage). My lamb was dry, not tender, and garnished with a watery sauce containing canned tomatoes. My husband's fish, also from the prix fixe menu, was overcooked and dry. (My teenage grandchildren, who are having growth spurts, cleaned up their plates without comment. ) We had a selection of desserts, including chocolate mousse (only OK) and other things I didn't taste. Prices led me to expect more carefully prepared dishes than what we got.
The best place ever for scrumptious fish and juicy steak! Side dishes are ample enough to share and use local veggies! Service is incredible! I feel like a queen at Sly's! No lack of spirits, from good wine to sassy mixed drinks, the bar is outstanding! Dessert is a sweet delight, from orange flan to cheesy cheesecake and a strong espresso! To top off a great dinner and dessert, the owner visits every table to make sure your dinner was made to your satisfaction!
A great place to eat in Carpinteria
Great food and very friendly atmosphere - As good as any restaurant in Santa Barbara without the hassle of traffic or parking
Sly's is the best place to start the holidays!!
I brunch at Sly's several times a year. It never disappoints in the food and service. It's our go-to place for any celebration or chance to entertain.
Sly's has delicious food and a great wine list. Service was excellent. One of my favorite places to dine in.

Sly's is a food legend!
In a remarkably short period Sly's has gathered an eclectic crowd from the famous to the kids down the street. The friendly and easy going atmosphere belies the level of professional expertise at every level. The wait staff know which wine to recommend with a dish, they know what vegetables compliment and enter and they know when to give you a little space. The New York steak, cooked Peter Lugar style is current favorite and ordered recently and it was perfect; the problem is there are easily a dozen other entrees that I like almost as much. The beef stroganoff served on Thursday is the best I've ever tasted. The dressing on the Crab Louie has a little snap which brings an old favorite up to something special. The sand dabs are so good that clients I have taken to lunch, drive up from LA just to have them again. I've never seen so many fresh vegetables on a menu; the grilled artichoke is wonderful and I especially like the dinosaur kale. Desert? Wow! Sly's makes me happy with every course and with every mixed drink or glass of wine.My son and I like to walk over for a burger , onion rings and a margaritas. Sly's is a very special place.

We really got it right this time. The waitress was polished with her technique. The food was excenllent. We are looking forward to going back soon. It was a little loud in the dinning area.
Sly's for any occasion
Whenever we are in town we make a point in stopping at Sly's, either for a cocktail, afternoon snack or breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food is outstanding, the service is friendly and they make outstanding old school cocktails like the Vesper martini or my favorite for breakfast (or brunch), the Ramos Fizz. Love this place is my favorite restaurant in town.
