Skinner's Loft Ratings and Reviews
Nice offerings but slow delivery & cold food
Some nice offerings: shepherds pie, steak sliders, goat cheese/argula pizza. Service was slow, which would have been okay, but ALL the food arrived cold or lukewarm. After such a long wait, we couldn't cope with a further delay to have the food remade/re-heated. The potato "sticks" served with the sliders were cold upon delivery. These potato sticks are not shoestring potatoes and are really unappealing; greasy, texture like shredded wheat and can't keep any heat so arrived cold. They were left uneaten.
The food was amazing and so was the staff
The atmosphere was very romantic, they dimmed the lights after a certain time, the service was amazing and the food was out standing!
My neighborhood favorite
Everything about Skinner's has exceptional written all over it - from the decor, to the food, to the craft beer and wine list. The ambiance is casual elegant and Skinner's staff makes you feel special, whether just meeting friends for a drink, for a casual meal or a special dinner. The menu has some great staples, but also ever changing with the seasons. Everything is always fresh and the presentation appealing. I like to do small plates which might include the mushroom pizzetta with fresh arugula, or one of their many special appetizers. You cannot go wrong with this place and I say this with my highest recommendation.
Great romantic place
My second visit to this restaurant was as great as the first. The food selection, presentation and quality were excellent. The staff is very attentive and friendly. You will love the eclectic decoration and banquet of flowers in the ladies room. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

Great food. Great service. Vegetarian options.
Missing something in my take home bag
Other than missing one item in my take home bag (found out when I got home - don't you hate that when it happens) the dining experience has been great (!) Also once or twice mid meal when the waitress asks 'how's everything?' would suffice Any more just becomes slightly disturbing I gave 4 stars

I went here to celebrate my birthday with friends and family and had a great time. The place was a little difficult to find due to the busy area and I'm not from there, but the restaurant didn't mind me being a little late because of it. Parking was also a struggle and it took us 20 minutes to find a lot to park in. I was interested in dining on the rooftop unfortunately the weather did not permit it. It didn't matter though; our sever was sweet the food was delicious and the atmosphere was very lively and youthful. The server and brought a fire cracker candle with the birthday cake we'd brought along.
good spot with good menu
nice little gem tucked away near grove st PATH. good and interesting menu selection. service was great. it was too cold for the rooftop - but i plan to come back and check it out.

My meal was a gluten-free and vegan delicious dish. The service and atmosphere was awesome. Thabk you Skinner's Loft and Bradly for a great experience!

I can't speak of anything because there was no parking within a couple blocks. Sorry, nothing is worth the walk in the cold.
Nice place near art district...
We had an art opening to go to at City Life and we were referred to Skinner's by a local person my husband works with. It was cold, so the roof top patio was not open, but we heard it is really great. Maybe next time... We made reservations and had a nice seat by the fireplace. The waitress was nice and the food was very good. The wine list was slightly lacking and their markup on the wines were much more than usual restaurants though. They charged $48 for a $15 bottle, so we thought a smidge too high. Perhaps that area allows high prices though. In any event, we enjoyed our meal and would go back again. Give it a try...
Great atmosphere, bland food
The service and atmosphere in Skinner's loft are both great. And while the food sounds very fun and delicious on the menu it is kind of disappointing how bland it is. It wasn't bad by any means but I was hoping for some great big flavor and I definitely didn't get that. My friend agreed.
Loft is uplifting
Everything we had was delicious from the appetizers to the desserts. Very tasty and good portions.

Visited here to celebrate my fiancé's bday and we were pleased... Especially with the sparkler presented to us at the end of our meal!!
Ambience is nice but overall experience was disappointing. The service was subpar. Half the table was served their food while the other half waited another ten minutes to receive theirs. I've worked in several different kinds of restaurants throughout my life and from casual to fine dining, serving everyone's main course at the same time seems to be service 101 across the board. It really stains any dining experience when the food comes out separately like that. I ordered the salmon which was mostly cold (but hot on the surface on one side of the plate from sitting under a heat lamp) and overcooked. I should have sent it back but our waitress was cold and unapproachable and seemed to be annoyed with minor requests such as refilling our water so I didn't want to push my luck. With that said, several of the people dining with me moderately enjoyed their meal. Our appetizers (the calamari and mussels) were also pretty good. I really wanted to like this place and thought I did my research. Maybe they will work out the kinks but until then I will not be coming back.
Outdoors on the rooftop
As always, loved sitting up on top of Skinner's Loft where it is quiet and comfy. The menu changes slightly each time we come, but the steak salad remains a favorite along with the mushroom pizzetta. They don't rush you but service is timed just right. And the breads are scrumptious.
Food was excellent. Waitress ignored just about everything we asked for. We definitely would change tables if she was our server next time!

Nice rooftop dining in Jerseys Grove street. Food is very good, Service was ok.
My husband and I had dinner at Skinner's Loft over the weekend, and we had a great experience. We sat upstairs and the atmosphere was comfortable, eclectic and warm. We started with the cippolini onion blossoms; very tasty. My husband enjoyed his steak and parmesan fries and the burger I had was excellent. I also really loved the side of brussels sprouts I ordered. We split a vanilla gelato for dessert which was great too. The menu was on the small side, but when the food is done well, it works. Overall, a really good meal and we will visit again.
In the evening, the restaurant is dimly lit and for a first date, I was more than happy with this restaurant. We were sat by the window and were able to carry on a conversation without distractions or chatter in the background. The food was great. The only downside of this restaurant may be the cost of the entrees. Be aware that entrees will start at $25 and up.. it is more of a classier place for special occasions.
Great Neighborhood Find!
We went here while visiting Grove street and loved it. Their menu is full of interesting flavor profiles and combinations that all delivered. The flight of mini ice cream cones was the perfect finish. The decoration and overall environment is really eclectic and unique. Definitely recommend this jewel!
Great small plates
I've been here several times, once for brunch and twice for dinner. We prefer dinner and sharing their varied small plates and salads is definitely the way to go.
Only for drinks!
The service was good, but the food was greasy and bland. Nice place to have a drink after work.
Our favorite place in town. From the basket of bread to the fireplace, the experience is comforting and civilized. Gnocchi with Duck Confit is perfect for a cold winter night. Salmon deviled eggs -- wow. Perfectly cooked chops; flavorful sides; a smart and well-priced wine menu. Prompt, unobtrusive service from staff that know the menu.
The food and service were outstanding -- frequent visits are recommended!!
My only complaint may be that
My only complaint may be that the bar is rather slow to fill cocktail orders for the tables... but the cocktails are very well made and worth the wait. The roof deck is a nice brunch spot in the summertime.
Since Skinner's Loft opened, it's been consistently excellent. I've had several New Year's Eve dinners here, late night drinks on the rooftop deck, drinks at the bar, appetizers at the front tables near the open windows, several brunch meals, and evening snacks. Not once have I (or my fellow diners) been let down. Jersey City is lucky to have a place like Skinner's Loft.
Excellent Food & Decent Service
Went there for a birthday and got right in fine with no wait. Food was excellent and it should be noted that if you are there for a birthday make sure you ask them to bring out the spinning candle thing. That was neatest damn thing! If I had anything to complain about it would be that the service was lacking just a little bit. The place was pretty empty and it still took a long time to get our initial drinks. The waitress was also a little "flat" in her demeanor and not very personable. She didn't seem to know much about the menu. On the other hand, she did take something off the bill we didn't like that was clearly our fault for ordering after not reading correctly on the menu, so that makes up for it. Would def go again.
Don't know how long this place has been open but I'm glad I found it. The food was excellent and everyone in my party had an excellent meal. Steak cook to specs and well presented. Great craft beers. The service however was weak.
First time there
Very good dining experience. Would return in the future.
Dining at Skinner's Loft
Great place. The food and service were very good. Very friendly atmosphere. Quite extensive menu. Highly recommend the Hummus. Only downside is the lack of on the street parking.

Food was amazing...as they seem to put a lot of care into every dish...anything with truffle is yummy...love this place!
a must try!
Great food and great service! Highly recommend and definitely will go back!
Skinner's Loft is top notch - service, food, ambiance - everything! A great family business. I highly recommend it!
Love this neighborhood restaurant. Great rooftop eating area, really nice decor in an old historic building. Really well done, very friendly staff and great food.
Although I was unable to indulge,
Although I was unable to indulge, their Wine list is impressive. The shared Mac & Cheese, delicious. I thoroughly my grilled peach gorgonzola salad.Yet, I must note that I ordered a med. Salmon, and received it well (with little to no moisture). My Server was polite and helpful in guiding me through the extensive menu.
This restaurant never disappoints. The food is first rate and the wait staff are professional and courteous & will gladly make substitutions if you don't happen to like a particular side that comes with a featured entree. The atmosphere is urban rustic but cozy. The food is so consistently good that I wouldn't hesitate to take a business contact there for lunch or dinner yet it's also appropriate for a romantic dinner for two or a family gathering, The salads alone are worth going there for with their unusual combinations (e.g., Asian Pear, Pomegranate & Kumquat). Highly recommend.
I love this place as always.
I love this place as always. Summer has come. Great for dining on the rooftop loft.
Came here on Mother's Day
Came here on Mother's Day for the first time and we all really enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious and the waiter was super helpful and attentive. If I lived closer I would definitely be back more often.
Don't know about the rest
Don't know about the rest of the food but i ordered the salmon crusted lemon and it was horrible, worst salmon I've ever had. everything about it was horrible, the drink were not the greatest either... I ordered a queen bee and a rhuby martini i barely drank them. Def wouldn't go back. However our waitress was very pleasant and the decor of the place was very nice, had a dim romantic setting. too bad the food was not the best.
