SHOR American Seafood Grill - Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
Great service and delicious calamari
We went for lunch to use up some Hyatt points. We were pleasantly surprised with the great taste and value of the calamari! That was by far my favorite part of the meal! It was pretty empty during weekday lunch, so we had very attentive service.
Came for seafood, but had mushrooms instead
My husband, daughter (12), and I were staying one night in Newport Beach at the Hyatt, so we decided to eat at SHOR since it was right at the hotel. We had a 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening reservation. We were seated immediately outside and had the choice to sit my the heaters or not. The restaurant was nearly empty. Our waiters were attentive and were available enough for our needs. We had the calamari appetizer (Tinker Bell breading, as my husband put it), mushroom brie soup (delicious), and ahi rice bowl (too spicy for my daughter, but the ahi was a good portion). My daughter had the mushroom tagliatelle (child's half portion which was huge) and I had the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp (delicious). Only got 3 shrimp. I would have paid more for four or five they were so good. My husband had the mixed green salad with apples and pecans which was fine. For dessert we got the My Pumpkin Pie in a jar to go. It tasted great but had the texture of soft cheese cake or pumpkin pie filling. All in all good food at a good value.

Valentine 4 Course Chef's Selection Was Excellent
I would not normally think of a hotel restaurant as the location for a creative and delicious chef's choice, four course menu, however the Hyatt's Shor exceeded my expectations. The food creations were delicious and the portions were just right. The short rib 'brick' with roasted radish was done very well and the dessert featured numerous unique creations and flavors. The restaurant ambiance is typical 'hotel restaurant', so don't go there looking for ocean views or exotic decor. However, for food and value, it scored very highly with us.
one other table and it took forever to get waited on; the only complaint. Our waiter was a charming man from Liverpool. He gave us a taste of the mushroom brie soup, delicious. The entres were unique and flavorful. I had salmon over cauliflower puree with pea tendrils and olive cracker. I was celebrating my birthday; and he served us a complimentary dessert of butter cake with cream cheese and caramel sauce. Great meal.
You were greeted warmly by Barbara, who was incredible. What an amazing first impression. Second, you are served with world class service by Julio and since I have dined here recently I was name recognized and the service was so professional, efficient, friendly and incredible. Julio is very knowledge about the food items and offered his suggestions and ideas, which I really appreciated. The menu has some great choices and my smoked salmon and my friends burrito were excellent. A total pleasure dining here, ask for Julio and receive a warm greeting from Barbara.
The portions here are huge, be prepared for that! But the servers are lovely and very welcoming.
The positives...first and foremost - our waiter Chris was excellent. He was very friendly and very helpful. The restaurant was also very clean and comfortable. The negatives....the prices were high and the quality was low. The bread was hard, the food was bland, and the potatoes were completely undercooked. The kitchen must have been understaffed as well - the wait for food was one of the longest we have seen.
Excellent food. Wonderful service.
We ate at Shor when we stayed at the hotel. We did a lot of research regarrding nearby restaurants but liked the menu and prices best at Shor. We were pleased with our choice. Good vegetarian options.

First time at the Shor American Seafood Grill, prior to the Bobby Caldwell concert. I was anticipating ordering from the main menu, but the Shor was only offering the buffet. If I would have known it was buffet only, I would have went to another venue for dinner. Maybe the main menu dinner is better, but the buffet was not worthy of the $60 price.

Nice prepared breakfast entree. Warm greeting from host. Very little interaction with wait staff. Food was tasty. Nice to sit outside and enjoy the Newport beach air.

Service by Rob was outstanding. Fish dishes nicely prepared and particularly the trout cooked to perfection.
Let me start off by saying the brunch itself is very good, but at $81.00 per person I would expect a little larger table and better table service. We were a party of 11 and was clearly stuck at a table for 8. This made eating quite uncomfortable. Next the table service was mediocre, when I came back with a new plate, my old one was still there. In addition, I had to clear the plates one time myself because we need the room on this very tight table. Given the price one pays with having to eat uncomfortable, we will need to find a better place for next Mother's Day.
Food was ok - outdoor dining adjacent to valet parking but still nice. Would be great stop during the day at lunch time for coffee and dessert that was very very good. Nice and quiet at lunch no crowd. Limited lunch menu $$$
Enjoyed a delightful breakfast with outstanding service from Julio and his peers. Warm, friendly and nice job all around.

Great food and service
I came here for a late Valentines dinner and the pictures of the food that I've seen on Yelp did taste as good as it looked. Marco was very polite and sociable server and he was very helpful with helping us choosing what to eat and explaining to us what was the menu item.
Shor Experience... Very Nice
Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Experience... :)
SHOR continues to be a favorite!
At SHOR we have always enjoyed good food, wine, service and a lovely dining room with views of the gardens and fire pits. Relaxing ambiance.
Great food - fantastic service
I had the pork chop and my wife enjoyed some past with shrimp. Our waiter was fantastic. We enjoyed a wonderful Ooey Gooey butter cake (a St. Louis favorite). We had a nice view of the grounds and fire pits outside. The restaurant was quiet. We would return for a special occasion.
Great Thanksgiving Dinner
Loved the carving stations, great choices, hot fresh food. Everything we wanted. Nice servers and other staff!
it was okay
Had dinner there last Saturday night. Service was great ... food was okay; wouldn't rush back. The salmon was very bland, no flavor whatsoever. The mussel bake was just okay. Lots of kids there.

Our dinners and martinis were delicious and our waiter was excellent. Lovely atmosphere out on your patio.
Staying at the Hyatt and decided to eat at SHOR. I Was surprised at the experience. Not a five star experience but very enjoyable. The ambiance was good, food was well presented and good, menu was interesting and varied.

We were seated at 2pm and the food was not fresh and the chefs had stopped cooking. For example they wwere no longer making waffles, roast beef was cold, ran out of ice cream in dessert section. Can't believe we paid $80 per plate for such poor quality food. Definitely did not gwy our money's worth.

The food and service were fine. However the dining ambience was more like a coffee shop with no tablecloths for evening dining. Half of the guests in the dining room were young children. It is not very appealing for adult dining in the evening.
We really enjoy SHOR - delicious
We really enjoy SHOR - delicious food, great service and they make a really good martini! Oh,,,and their bread is fabulous! Thanks!
Expected a little more
My boyfriend ordered a steak well-done and it came out medium. While I ordered medium and got medium-rare. I didn't bother to say anything since it took so long to get the food. The food wasn't bad. Don't know if I would come again.
very good service, five for
very good service, five for breakfast, two from Dubai, one from India. This ws the right choice for a very important breakfast meeting.
Excellent food and service
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at SHOR. It was our first visit but we will surely be back. Our dinners and martinis were delicious. Also enjoyed our wine list choices with dinner. Delicious bread! Excellent, attentive, friendly service. Thank you.
Convenient but overpriced
Convenient but overpriced for customers of the Hyatt Regency. We ate her three times because of a conference in the hotel. The butternut squash soup and crab cakes were good the risotto was not that good. Its pricey for what is being served. The wine is very overpriced. The 'outdoor' seating basically overlooks the driveway of the hotel.
We living locally and consider
We living locally and consider the menu there excellent, return every couple of months. Thought well enough of them to go for NY Eve dinner. Seafood selections are excellent. They have a good chef. Ambience is so-so because it's a hotel restaurant, so not very romantic. In warmer weather it would be good to dine outdoors with this menu, we haven't done that yet. Servers are always falling over themselves to be excellent, they really have g reat servers. Valet parking is comped if you tell them you are local.
Don't go on Concert Nights
The buffet had few choices. I think it was limited concert dinner. Only 2 hot entrees
We attended the jazz concert
We attended the jazz concert and there was only the buffet available. The selection was not very good. It used to be much better.
Its always great to dine here , we have for years.
Its great .
We have been going for years . It is very relaxing and a good Bar for games after dinning. We are waiting for the Sunday buffet to return. Newly remodeled is very nice. The lobster bisque is fabulous! thanks
very nice and good value.
very nice and good value. enjoyed sitting outside. only criticism is that buffet was somewhat limited.
Amazing Easter Brunch!!!!
Amazing Easter Brunch!!!! Amazing service as well. Thank you for a very memorable experience!
Had an amazing experience
Had an amazing experience here! The staff were all very friendly and knowledgable of the menu and wine. The food is mostly local and a lot scratch made. Some of the best crab cakes I've ever had. The lobster ravioli was also great. All around good seafood and service. Highly recommend.
