Sage Room - Harvey's Lake Tahoe Ratings and Reviews
Ordered the oysters rockafeller, shrimp cocktail and crab cake with an amazing cab wine!
Have eaten at most of the Ceasars Steak Houses across the country . This was near the bottom of the list . French Onion soup was a decent serving , yet was not very tasty. Prime rib was not seadoned, and very chewy . Sure have had better prime across this country. Glad that we didn't have to pay for the meameal, since it was on Ceasars . Won't go back, even to use our celebration free dinners .
not quiet or intimate
We came for our anniversary and because of the reviews we figured it would be a perfect place. Boy were we wrong! It was loud and the service was just "ok." Unfortunately we got sat next to a group of guys who were loudly spouting off vulgar things. The whole restaurant could hear them. We told our waiter about it and he shrugged it off, without offering to move us or asking them to stop with the obscenities. For a bill that was around $170 for 2 people, I expected more.
Our server and busser was very attentive throughout the meal.
Our 10th year.
On par with four star steakhouses in any major city.
Frozen in time, and not aging well
This restaurant has special memories for me from 22 years ago, but unfortunately the memories aged better than the restaurant did. The service was incredibly slow and the wait staff looked unhappy to be there. They seemed to be going through the motions and not enjoying their work very much. The ambiance and decor were quite old and not well maintained. The food was just not good. The best caesar salad that I've ever had was prepared tableside in 1994, but something got lost along the way and this food this time was just boring and in dire need of an introduction to the 21st century with fresh ingredients. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, and it was too large and too thick and cooked until achieving the texture of leather.
Excellent service and food.
Our waiters were absolutely wonderful and the food was excellent.
What a steak house should be
This is the kind of steak house Sinatra would have loved. The tableside prep service is excellent. The wine list extensive. The food is delicious. Makes me think "Classic"

We have been dinning at the Sage Room for 25 years or more. It's always an amazing dinner and great service. They always treat us like we are special.
A Favorite Classic That Still Shines!
The Sage room décor and ambience goes back decades, and it still stands as one of the best upscale dining experiences around Lake Tahoe. From the tuxedo clad waiters, to the flaming dishes prepared tableside, the entire experience screams out class. The food selection, preparation and service are all excellent...as they should be, the price is not cheap, but very reasonable for what you get! Our Bay area friends will think this is quite the deal...and it is!Sage
Great Dining experience!
We have gone to the Sage Room every time we are in Tahoe and it is always a highlight of our trip. Great service and exceptional food. The Steak Diane is to die for! As is the Banana Foster for two.

This is the absolute best restaurant in south Lake Tahoe. I've been coming here from the Bay Area for over 25 years and it is by far the best meal and service you will get
We eat here almost every time we're in Tahoe. This Thursday evening it was a relatively light crowd but it took an hour to get 5 steaks. This despite other later arrivals at tables around us getting served first. The kids were getting impatient and hungrier. Servers were very nice and accomodating as usual. Not returning if these lengthy delays become a trend.
BEST Rib Eye!
Sage Room is a wonderful restaurant with a great menu and exceptional service. While a tax pricey, I suggest one get the french onion soup and the mesculin salad table side and share an entree. The shrimp with mushroom risotto is awesome and there Rib Eye is out of this world good. Again, expensive but if it's a special occasion, go for it!
Great old-school steakhouse
If you long for old-school steakhouse atmosphere and classic dishes like oysters Rockefeller and table-side Caesar salad then the Sage a Room is for you. On this night they had a bone-in ribeye that was to die for! Service is attentive and professional. My only complaint is they seem to be trying to modernize the menu (blackberry demiglace?) Just tell them to hold the sauce and go for all that beef taste!
The dinner was great and the service was excellent! We had Thomas as our waiter and he was awesome!
Not what we expected
Three people, no drinks and bill was over 400. Ordered med rare porterhouse, came med well. Lobster had no taste. This place used to be the place for steak in Tahoe, 20 years ago, not any more. I do not mind paying 400 dollars for dinner for three people, but would expect much better food. Will not go again, very disappointed.
Sage Room old school steakhouse
Whenever we are in Tahoe and want a special meal we go to the Sage room. It's the last piece of the Harvey gross error that has been unchanged all these years. Do not go if you are concerned about cost this is all about the food. Our service was a bit lacking this trip due to a large group that showed up just after we arrived. My wife's main course had to be sent back because it had been prepared incorrectly. The problem was fixed quickly and both our meals were fabulous.
From the moment we arrived we were treated like Royalty. The drinks were perfect. The spinach salad made at tableside was the best I've ever had. Best of all were the scallops. All was prepared perfectly with a 2012 St. Francis Cabernet. We can't wait to return for another experience.

Most of the food was fantastic. We weren't a fan of the beef wellington, but that could have just been us. Husband didn't think the frog legs were cooked very well, but I liked them. Our server Sharon was great, but then about half way through, another server also started to come to our table and he was overbearing. The ambiance was not as good as I was hoping for. It was pretty crowded, close tables, and noisy. We were hoping for a more quiet and romantic place. It is VERY expensive.
AVERAGE QUALITY, OVER PRICED FOR PRODUCT RECEIVED
We usually do SAGE during a ski holiday and celebrate my birthday with a nice steak. On 2-22, we were promptly seated by a nice hostess and beverage & food service process began promptly. The appetizer oysters rockafeller appeared fairly quickly and were tasty. There was a lull before the caesar salad for two...flavor was OK, the sliced romaine pieces were not green and fresh appearing. There was quite another lull before ribeye steak was presented. We ordered rare plus, and it was more like medium-rare, medium. That would have been OK, but the steak was just warm...and not sizzling hot off the grill. Likewise for the mushrooms and creamed spinach...luke warm, instead of hot. I guess we should have expressed our concerns to our waiters...but we did not. Total price for 2 including tax and tip was $193.85. We took the leftovers home...and the heated spinach, mushrooms, and regrilled steak were much better the next night. Lesson learned...let the wait staff know immediately and send it back for re-do. I think the food must have been waiting on the counter too long...and cooled off. A steak from Ruths Chris is SIZZLING when delivered, and the plate is HOT. Different approach...better results. I was at Mortons today for lunch. Steak was served HOT. Maybe next time we can be more assertive about our expectations....for the price....it should be perfect.
Sage Room at Harvey's
My friend and I have been going to Lake Tahoe every February for over 20 years. The last 3 years we have had our final dinner at the Sage Room. The restaurant to me is a throwback to the classic casino era in Lake Tahoe. The formally attired waiters, the table side food prep and the classic menu items all make this a very special place in Lake Tahoe. I recommend this place without any reservation. The Caesar salad and Steak Diane are not to be missed.

Old school standby's like table-side Caesar salad, steak Dianne, chateaubriand, cherries jubilee and bananas foster are what make The Sage Room shine. Our group ordered chateaubriand, jalapeño rib-eye and steak Dianne. The chateaubriand was cooked perfectly but the steak Dianne although served in a yummy table-side prepared sauce was not an ideal cut. The rib-eye was tasty but the chateaubriand blew the other preparations away. Also, the old chateau preparation which was brought out on a cutting board with the vegetables roasted along side (instead of pre-plated and steamed) was even better. The Sage Room has such a nice warm cozy atmosphere. I would definitely recommend it.
Sage Room at Harveys South Lake Tahoe, NV
Sage Room food is incredible. We shared the Chateaubriand which was to die for. Restaurant is pricey, especially for wine. Atmosphere is OK, seating is a little crowded. Lots of very nice entrees prepared at your table. Would definitely recommend.
12 year wedding anniversary/valentines celebration
The evenings special night was fantastic. The Maitre'd Ozzie Sanchez was friendly and sat us at a romantic booth in the corner for our special occasion. I loved presenting my wife the long stem rose, the MGMT team thought of everything. We were warmly greeted by our Sever Teddy " the man" and he presented his entire team he was working aside. Teddy graciously offered wine us and had a great story to share about the evenings specials. We ordered our starters which came out quickly and tastefully. The evenings dinner service was spectacular and served at a perfect pace as we never felt rushed. The tables side Caesar service and entree cutting was a unique performance. To top it all off we finished with the cherries jubilee- sautéed table side- what a yummy treat! Kudos goes to the entire team and culinary chefs - well done. From my wife and I both - thank you - thank you for a all around memorable moment- cheers!
Main dishes very good, sides not so
I had the rack of lam, and I thought it was terrific. Well prepared, well served, and done to medium well, as I like it. My wife had the crab artichoke appetizer. It was not acceptable. It had formed a crust that was hard, from perhaps overcooking or sitting under a heat lamp too long. Her entre was Salmon, which was alright, but the rice side was overcooked. The wait staff was very attentive and competent.
Been splurging here on trips to Tahoe since the 80's and we're never disappointed. Everything first rate but we did notice that their definition of "Medium Rare" is more on the "Rare" side. Just order accordingly.

Ricardo was awesome. The waiters are super busy here and do a very good job at balancing tables. The food was great. Ceaser salad was UHMAZING. Rabbit ravioli was rich and flavorful. Filet and steak Diane were on point abd cooked perfectly . Didn't have dessert because we were too full. But going back today to try the tableside cherries jubilee. Thanks for a great eveni
Old school, table side service
They don't make em like the Sage Room any more. If you have not been, go. It's the original dining room in Harvey's casino in South lake Tahoe. Built in the 1940's, everything is original old west, native american decor. Timeless. Table side service, the best Caesar salad you'll find anywhere. The service and food are the best. This restaurant is my personal favorite, period. You'll spend some money, but what you'll remember is a great, unique dining experience. The Sage Room has been copied (Tahoe Joes) but never duplicated. Enjoy,
Teddy is one of the best waiters that I have ever encountered.
John Wayne's Favorite
John Wayne would have been a regular at the Sage Room. Fantastic restaurant for the true American. Top Shelf service and the food was outstanding. Excellent table side presentations for salads and desserts; made right at your table. Would recommend the Sage Room for anyone visiting South Lake Tahoe.
The Best in Tahoe!
Absolutely love the Sage Room...from the appetizers to the entrees, it's amazing. Best restaurant in S. Lake Tahoe! If you love great food, wine and cocktails I highly recommend!
Excellent Food and Excellent Service
The food was really very good and the service was as well. They did not have certain wines. We asked for a split of Pinot Noir and they did not have any, said the distributor has shorted them. Also, even though they do not allow smoking in the restaurant, I felt like I was sitting in a smoking section. The cigarette smoke smell was strong because the restaurant is located inside Harvey's Casino and smoking is allowed in the hotel/casino. I would probably not go back because of the smoke.
Very Nice Place
Dimmed lights, great steak! Ordered the Banana Fosters for dessert which was tasty and made at our table. Loved our experience there. (:
Disappointed with the food!!
Are dinning experience was disappointing. We had a party of six and the food was not what we expected. I had the ribeye special and it was supposed to have a blueberry jalapeño sauce but I couldn't taste the jalapeño at all. Another person in our party food was served cold prime rib and when it was brought back out I wouldn't have served it to my dog. It looked all the cook did was soaked it in some sauce. I wouldn't go back unless they make some serious changes.
If you're looking for good Steak, go elsewhere
We went in and were quickly seated. Waiter was very pleasant, his assistant was also fantastic! Our drink orders were quickly taken and delivered. We ordered the Chateaubriand - Bouquetière for Two at $81.00 ;were told is the best cut of meat in the house. We were extremely disappointed. The cut of meat appeared to be fried on the outside and very dry, they gave us a sauce after we pointed out that its too dry to put on top of the meat. For a cut of meat of this quality, you don't need to throw a bunch of stuff on top of it. I suggested that you goto the Chart House instead if you're looking for good overall higher end dining experience in So. Lake Tahoe and avoid this place. People are nice but the FOOD especially the steak is a huge disappointment!!!
This is my go-to place for special occasions. Our waiter, Cy, was superb - right amount of taking care of our wishes and information regarding our food choices. The service from all wait staff was above and beyond. The food was delicious and extremely well prepared. I will definitely return time and time again.
Sage Room does a great job! We had a party of 6 and had a nice round table in the corner. We all ordered different appetizers, including the Caesar Salad and Spinach Salad, both made at the table. Everyone loved their entrees - there was a special ribeye with bbq sauce I think, the regular ribeye, filet mignon. We also had 3 people order fish which was fabulous - a lot of times you can't get good seafood at steak restaurants. We go to the Sage Room a few times a year and it is always a great experience - food, ambience, service. I'm already looking forward to our next excellent meal there!
Hostess without the mostest.
Hostess wouldn't let us sit at a table we requested and it sat vacant for two hours. Waiter spilt wine on my husband and we know it was an accident but the wine was 100.00. He offered a free dessert at the end!!! We had to tell them to change the table cloth as we were soaked. Pants, tablecloth, chair. The hostess just glared. We would go back as the food is excellent but the hostess needs to up her game and go back to hostess school. Plain RUDE.
Great service by mark.
Only one comment n complaint to the chef about the scallop appetizer ( 3pieces ) small pieces previously frozen you can taste!!Seaweed and sriracha aioli is not a good match with seared scallop!!! But be honest rest of the food especially the meat the BEST cooked the perfection. Thank you. And great service by Mark!
